Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The leaf-bare day was peaceful and bright, with a new coat of powdery white snow cloaking the landscape throughout the territories. There was a light fall of snow that danced playfully against a gentle breeze. The peace though, did not last as yet another violent eruption of coughing echoed through the white woods. Birch heaved forward painfully as a parade of coughing ensued, each one paired with jarring pangs of chest pain. After nearly a long minute of coughing with moments of peace, the white tom was finally allowed some relief, sighing heavily as he sat pathetically in the snow. "Sounds like a riot is breaking out inside me." Birched half-joked, each word coming out raspy and shaky and the large white cat attempt to regain some composure to his breathing. The pressure in his chest had begun to grow worse over the past few nights. The loner's usually bright and vivid amber eyes were dull with exhaustion from his illness, but his signature crooked smile never left his expression.
There was only so much Birch could do. He looked up at his brother, tilting his head playfully as he took in the large brown and white maine coon standing just a few tail lengths ahead of his, waiting patiently for him. "I feeling rather lazy brother," He began, exaggerating as he fell back into the soft layer of snow "Without your consent, I have decided I will take a small break." His body ached as it hit the soft floor, causing a heavy sigh to escape his weak body. The plan to find herbs was becoming difficult as endless snow fall the past few nights constantly buried the earth in layers of snow. As much as he was generally optimistic, Birch was beginning to struggle in keep his hope afloat, not that he showed it externally. His mind couldn't help but wander off to his kithood in a rouge group. Any time news of illness arose, death always followed. A simply cough was a death sentence especially living in a group of cats that collectively looked after their own. Though circumstances were different now, Birch couldn't help wallow in a moment of fear. This really could be it for him...
Rowan watched on with worry in his gaze. His dear brother grew worse and worse with each passing moment, like snow collecting on the banks. Soon he'd be buried alive, under snow and in death. Shaking his fur to rid himself of some of the falling flakes, the large tom moved to stand above his brother's form. "Couldn't you have at least waited until we found shelter? You'll be frozen in minutes if you stay here." His scolding was moe out of fear, fear for his brother's life least they find help. A loner, a rogue, even a darn clan cat would be great about now. Anyone how could help, he'd take. He didn't care what debt he'd own them, or what they asked of him, so long as Birch made it through this sickness.
Taking one last look at the sky, snow still falling, clouds grey with cold, Rowan settled ext to his brother. The least he could do now was provide warmth. There was no way he was leaving Birch here, he'd die before he made it back with help. "Do you remember when we were kits, and Ma first let us out in the snow?"
Birch let out a shaky breath, his lungs aching painfully as the cold around him began to wrap him in a cocoon of numb bliss. Every physical being of the rouge's body welcomed the chilling peace the winter offered, finding comfort in the peace of knowing that he could very much be one sleep away from all the pain and struggle, but a small part of his heart ached on, urging him to fight on. Birch's tired gaze opened up to find his brother's earthly pelt pressed against his own. The warmth that radiated from his brother was heavenly.
The reminder of the memory brought a wider smile against the loner's white muzzle. "How could I forget?" He breathed, purring quietly as his mind brought forth the images with clear definition "I almost drowned in the sea of snow because you dared me to jump into a mountain of snow and I got stuck." He began to laugh, despite his body screaming in protest "Mom had to dig me out- We got into so much tro-" A new wave of aggressive coughing took over the tom, turning his happy expression to that of a pain filled one. He turned away in time, saving his brother from a direct line of fire in vain hope that he too would not get sick.

Chestnutpaw pounced carefully through the layer of fresh new snow, clutching strains of catmint in her mouth tightly as she maneuvered her way around the snow, weary of stepping in a hidden hole like she had just earlier on her endeavor for herbs. Leaf-bare had been particularly kind to Winterclan so far. Though illness was a rare occasion throughout the year for Winterclan, it was much more common during Leaf-bare, particularly for the young and older cats of the clan, whom struggled most to adapt to the changes in weather. This season though, not a peep of complaints from Winterclan cats with the exception of one kit earlier in the morning who spoke of a painful cough. To avoid the risk of Greencough developing, the kit was prescribed a bit of catmint, but to the Witch and Pupil's surprise, their catmint supply was non existent.
It was easy for the apprentice to offer her aid in retrieving some, largely because she knew exactly where to find healthy catmint and partly because she loved to venture out of camp. Though she was grateful for her training to become a full fledged Winterclan Witch, being stuck around camp running daily check in's, organizing herbs and cleaning out the Witch's den often bore her. The young, speckled she-cat took every opportunity to leave camp when the moment arises. This was one of those times.
The lack of immediate important prompted the young Pupil to take a longer route back to camp, one she had never sought to take before. She quietly hummed to herself as she took in the beauty of a snow tainted forest as rays of sun broke through frost covered branches and leaves, creating a serene and almost magical scene before her. Chestnutpaw's large pale green gaze looked up at the trees with silent admiration and awe. In that moment of distraction, Chestnutpaw failed to recognize a small ditch ahead. Before she knew it, her next step was into nothingness and the power of gravity dragged the rest of her small, speckled body down into the ditch. A yelp of surprise escaped her as she made her short decent, landing painfully onto her side. She groaned as the impact echoed throughout her body, her eyes shut tightly for a moment before examining around her in confusion. She had never explored this part of Winterclan. The ditch around her wasn't took deep, but the sides of the walls were slick with ice. It was an easy jump for a full grown cat, but Chestnutpaw was not full grown and she was far too small for her age. She stared around in slight horror at the realization of her predicament. The pupil rose to her paws quickly, following the edges of the ditch for the shortest point before pathetically attempting to jump up and reach the edge. She made it barely, but the thin sheet of ice around the edge made it difficult for her to grip on, causing the she-cat to tumble back down into the ditch and into the strands of catmint that laid scattered at the center of the ditch.
"Oh no..." She breathed heavily, her chest rising and falling quickly as panic began to grow.
Rowan grinned, "you were dumb enough to do it. Ma nearly killed us then." The tom could hear his brother's breathing worsen. Snuggling closer, he began to pur, trying to comfort him the best he could. His heart ached for his brother, fear had gripped him a while ago and yet he still tried to hold hope. Maybe they'd find help....or the cold would make his last moments easier. It wasn't a thought he wanted to think of. That with all they'd been through it'd be this illness that did them in, that separated them for good where all others had tried and failed.
Hearing a noise not far away, the tom rose from beside his brother. He'd defend him till their deaths, just as he always had. Nothing would change. "Who's there?" A growl ripped through him as he took a stance over his brother, ready and willing to die for the one below him if needed. He'd follow Birch to the grave, die fighting that was his motto. It'd been drilled into them as kits, and it wasn't going away now.
Not far away Polarblast, a newly appointed warrior, was out on a patrol. Smug as always he, glanced at the rest of his group. "Can you go any slower? We've got work to do and I'd like to get it done before sundown." A wicked, full of himself, a grin spread across his face. It felt good to be a warrior now, to finally have earned his place in the clan as someone worth something. No more training for him to learn anything, he knew it all...or so he thought.
As Chestnutpaw glanced around, mentally registering her newly trapped status, a muffled growl in the distance caught her attention. It was defensive and unfamiliar, but panic blinded the pupil and before she could really think about it, she called out "Help! Someone help me!" Panic was evident in her small but loud voice as she glanced around frantically for any sign of help.

Birch laughed again, but it was forced and gave away the state of exhaustion he was in. His eyes melted shut as his brother leaned into him. The warmth that radiated off of him was heavenly. He could feel the darkness caressing him, urging him towards a sweet state of slumber. Before the comfort could settle in, a yelp in the distance made his heart jump in his chest. His body had no more energy to react. Birch opened his amber eyes to glance up at his brother, who now stood protectively over his body. The white tom's eyes slowly rolled over towards the direction of the yelp, his brows furrowed with confusion and curiosity as suddenly, new calls of help rang out. The voice sounded rather young and scared. "Sounds like a maiden in trouble." Birch breathed, a ill-timed smirk gracing his tired expression "Brother be a gentleman and help out." He spoke out nonchalantly as he snuggled in the snow covered lump under his chin "I'll stay right here and protect our napping spot."
Rowan glanced over to the source of the sound, unwilling to go lest he come back to a body with no life in it. He dared to speak the words, a gruffness and serious tone accompanying them. " Don't die while I'm gone." Eyes bore into his brothers awaiting an answer he knew could not be guaranteed. Once he had it, he made his way swiftly towards the howling cat. Hopefully, this would be quick and he could return to his sickly brother before he decided to expire. Coming upon the squirming form, he called out, "hold still, you'll only make it worse!" Didn't this cat know anything? Even he, a cat that didn't live in the snow, understood that it'd act like quicksand at times. His powerful form allowed him to not become trapped in the soft whiteness as he moved through it to the smaller cat. Catching her by the scruff he began to pull her out, back along the path he'd taken to get to her.
(If I remember correctly in here with my blind girl Northpaw)
Northpaw had been out on her own when of course she had run into her brother, of all the cats in Winterclan the blind apprentice just had to meet him. "I'll go as fast as I want to, Polarblast." She didn't know why she hadn't just run off, but it was too late now, they had gone further than she was aware and wouldnt be able to get back home from here. With a scowl on her face she trudged on, her sharp ears caught the call for help and without a word from her brother she took off toward it.
(Polarblasts sibling yes.) Polarblast's grin dropped at her words. Clearly, someone had woken up on the wrong side of the nest. Besides what if he just left her out here. Mother wouldn't care and there was no way Northpaw would get back on her own. Feeling petty and his pride squished some, he hurried a few steps ahead of her. "You're lucky I found you at all. I could have just left you out here. Then what? You'd freeze to death before morning with the storm that's coming in."
Birch offered his brother a crooked smile, his expression calm and collected "I wouldn't dream of it." Birch sang nonchalantly, fighting back the sudden urge to cough again. He didn't want to give his brother more of a reason to stay. He held his breath painfully, watching as his brother stalked away quickly. The smile from the tom's face slowly faded as he watching his brother disappear into the woods. Once the silence, signifying his brother's distance, he finally released the flood of coughing. He gasped for air as the storm of painful coughing finally died down, groaning in exhaustion. The scene around him was peaceful and quiet. It would be a beautiful place to die-
The sudden thought shook the loner to the core as he realized what he was thinking. Birch steeled his mind as he focused on the area in which his brother bounded off too. He didn't want to die, more so he did not want to die alone. The idea alone shook him to the core. His heart ached to see his brother again, but his eye lids grew heavier with each passing moment...

A sudden and unrecognizable voice made the young pupil jump. She looked up in surprise to find a complete stranger standing at the edge. Her fear of being stuck forever outweighed the fear of the stranger and she complied willingly, stand up still as the tom reached to grab her by her scruff. She instinctively balled up, making it easier for the stranger to drag her out until the two were on a forest path, safe and sound. Chestnutpaw's body quivered as the anxiety that had taken over her body slowly began to melt away "Thank you." She spoke up, her small voice shaky as she looked up at the huge cat. Despite his intimidating expression, the tom's body language offered no hint of threat. On the contrary, the strange cat seemed preoccupied, his gaze distant but for what reason, the young cat could not put her paw on it. "You saved my life." She squeaked, her large pale green eyes still watching the rouge with intense curiosity "What is your name?"
PhantomConsuela Also Consuela I love the way you write! It's amazing!
Rowan placed her down and immediately began to walk away. He had other things to worry about besides this scrap of fur. "Don't worry about it, dollface." His voice was rough, almost cruel and dismissive. But he didn't care. He'd leave all the charming to Birch just as he always had. What he didn't expect, or even planned, for was that the little scrap would begin following him. Weird, but whatever. Eyes fixed ahead of him, searching for the spot he'd left Birch in, he prayed to anyone that would list that the tom was still alive when he got back. I'll kill him if he's not.
(*gushes* I can't with compliments please don't!! <3)
Watching the tom walk off, Chestnutpaw's heart dropped, stepped ahead to follow him for a moment before realizing she had left her catmint behind. She turned quickly to see the majority of the herbs sprinkled across the pit she escaped, but a few strings of catmint remained near the edge. She reached back for it, grabbing them tightly in her jaws. Well, a couple of sprigs were better than nothing. "Waaait!" She called out, her voice slightly muffled as she help the herbs in her mouth "You are in Winterclan territory!" She called out, skipping naively towards the stranger. Being a witch's pupil, Chestnutpaw knew she had immunity from other clans. It was a rule, no medicine cats or cats of a similar position should be targeted. The confidence in her safety was far too high, she didn't register than this loner was not aware of the rule, allowing her emotions to get the best of the situation "But you saved me, the least I can do is escort you to where you are going." She offered, gratitude filling her words. "If anyone else catches you out here, they can hurt you or worse, take you as prisoner." She paused for a moment in her speech but remained at the stranger's tail end, trying to keep up with his rather long and fast strides "If anyone sees you are with me, I can explain to them what happened!"
PhantomConsuela (I'd love it if Birch and Rowan both became like older pseudo-brothers to Chestnutpaw. I think it'd be cute. Like a don't mess with her or ya'll gotta deal with us killers)
Rowan rolled his eyes. Would that cat just stop talking already? Clearly, she was too naive for her own good if she was following a stranger as though they were best friends. They weren't and would never be friends. And this talk of being a prisoner, yea no. He wasn't anyone's prisoner, especially not when he'd just escaped that life. With another roll of his eyes, he picked up the pace. They were close to where he left Birch, just over this small snow mound and they'd be able to see his brother. Who better still be alive!
Unbeknownst to the two, there was another duo approaching Birch. In the opposite direction, came Polarblast and his sister. They'd caught the scent of a foreign cat and had picked up their pace. Polarblast wanted a prisoner for praise reasons, or to beat the crap out of the act and scare them off while Northpaw sat there useless. Either way worked for him as mother would be pleased with him.
(YES YES YES! Aaaand it would make sense since she would be the constant character to be vouching for them. She, in her own way, will protect the brothers with her status within the clan)
As Rowan picked up the pace Chestnutpaw picked up her own, her long stretched strides turning to a speedy power walk. "I am being serious! You can get in big trouble!" Chestnutpaw raised her voice, her tone was pitifully threatening as she was already becoming out of breath from her desperate journey to catch up to the large stranger. It was obvious he didn't take her seriously and for once she felt annoyance. All she was trying to do was help but he wouldn't give her the time of day. "Fine! But don't come crying to me if you get cau-" She began to chide the stranger as the two climbed over the snow mound, but her eyes caught the sight of an white body in the snow. She didn't know how she caught it so quickly especially as it blended into the snow nicely due to a rather thick layer of snow that over the long white pelt.
"Oh my goddess..." Chestnutpaw exclaimed quietly, her pale green eyes wide "Is-is he dead?" She breathed the thought out loud unknowingly, too shocked to have realized she was speaking her own thoughts. Before the brown tom could respond, she moved towards the cat instinctively, her Pupil training kicking into effect...

A distant muffled voice broke through the peace, making Birch blink back into reality. Everything looked so much bright and despite gaining a heavy coat of snow, he felt so warm. His amber orbs rolled around as he searched for the voice, but just doing that alone made him weak. He closed his eyes again, letting out a shaky breath before a new fit of coughing erupted from his body. His muscles clentched in preparation as pain erupted with each labored cough he made.
"He better not be, or I'm gonna kill him myself." Rowan's eyes narrowed as he hurried to follow the smaller cat. His stride was sharp and quick, moving him to his brother's side in a moment. He watched as the small, little stranger got to work....doing something. He wasn't sure what. Before he could think to question her as to what she was doing, Birch began coughing and opening his eyes, distracting Rowan from her previous thoughts. "I told you to stay alive while I was gone. Here you are dying!" Angry that he was losing his only family, the tom's fur bristled and he began to let out a low growl. He'd all but forgotten that the little thing was there until she was practically pushing him out of her way to get to Birch more.
The pupil watched as the tom before her heaved, his cough heavily congested. Her mind wandered to different ideas, but as soon as she noticed the shakily body, labored breathing and pus-tinged eyes did her mind focus on one potential cause. The scent and taste of catmint wavered in her mouth, a gentle reminder of its existence and she couldn't help but sigh in relief. "This looks like Green Cough." She murmmered outloud, to herself as she immediately shoved the strands of catmint from her mouth to the white tom's "I need you to chew this." The pupil urged gently, but there was a firmness to her words that hinted at the urgency of the request.
Birch felt a suddenly intrusion in his mouth. Everything in his body wanted to throw up what ever entered his mouth in attempt to clear his airways, but a muffled voice urged him to chew. It was unfamiliar. Birch wasn't one to follow in suit with commands, especially those of cats unfamiliar to him, but at this moment, his body reacted for him before his mind could. Every fiber of his being wanted to live, and it was stronger than the cocky mindset that ruled the rouge's thoughts. With no further hesitation, Birch began to chew slowly, wheezing as he did.
Chestnutpaw sighed heavily, relieved to see the cat strong enough to manage at least that. Her pale green gaze turned up to the massive brown and white cat beside her, who watched on with visible concern. "He needs to be somewhere warm and he needs more herbs, Feverfew in particular, and we have both back at our camp." The pupil urged, a new wave of commanding energy radiating from the stunted she-cat. "We need to take him to Winterclan camp."
(Our WIC Warriors can come in now! Phantom & pao )
Rowan hesitated to trust this stranger, but really he could take her if it came to that. But a whole camp? He couldn't protect them both there, with so many enemies and a sick brother. The tom squared his shoulders and made the decision to trust this small she-cat. Clearly, she knew what she was doing and could help his brother, so he wasn't gonna argue with her. "Tell me what you need me to do." Rowan readied himself next to his brother to help him walk, or carry him if needed.
Northpaw was tired of walking with her brother so when the sound of voices reached her ears she let out a grunt and quickened her pace toward the noise, it wasnt until she was close enough that the strange scents of the two toms became clear and she flattened her ears. She quickly recognized Chestnutpaws scent but because she couldn't see it was difficult to pinpoint her location. "Are you okay Chestnutpaw?"
The pupil was relieved to see the stranger being so compliant. It was also heart warming to see. It showed that the cat cared deeply for the sick tom. It made her wonder how they know each other. The question was stashed in the back of her mind. Now was not the time to be distracted....
Chestnutpaw nodded up at the brown and white tom, nodding abruptly as she turned back to look at the sickly cat. "If I roll him onto your back can you carry him completely?" She asked, a wave of embarrassment washed over her as she did. She never let her unusually small size get the best of her, but in moments like this, she wished she was bigger and stronger enough to help in this regard. Before Rowan could respond to her, a familiar voice broke out across the clearing, causing Chestnutpaw's head to snap back quickly in surprise "Northpaw?" She meowed in surprised, her eyes wide as she noted the blind student. The sound of frantic shuffling came behind Northpaw and the Pupil could feel her heart drop. There was someone else. Before Northpaw could ask, the Pupil spoke up, her tone serious, almost commanding as the words spilled forward "I got stuck in a ditch on a herb run and this cat next to me saved me. His friend is ill, so much so he isn't going to make it through the night if we don't get him back to camp." She spoke up, slowly making her way forward, strategically placing herself in between Birch, Rowan and the patrol. " I need your help caring him back to camp."
Rowan nodded and lowered his body down into a crouch so the she-cat could move Birch onto his back. His eyes scanned the area around them and then locked onto the newcomer's. He would fight if needed, he'd do anything to protect his brother. And now this she-cat as well as she said she'd be able to save Birch. When the little one spoke, he listened, but he also didn't move his eyes away from the newcomer's. Especially not when a second cat appeared.
Poalrblast huffed as he moved to follow Northpaw. He wasn't happy that the student had walked away from him, especially when he was in charge. But when he got close enough to scold Northpaw fro wondering off while blind, the wind shift and brought two new scents to him. Instantly on guard, he hurried to see what the problem was and there he found Chestnutpaw with two strangers. Immediately he started to growl, ready to go rescue Chestntpaw from these two strangers. He couldn't believe she wanted to bring these...trespassers back to camp! Was she crazy!!
