Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Softpelt felt her heart swell with pride as she and Fawnheart walked side by side to the Moon Creek. After being demoted in FallClan, she feared she'd never get the chance to meet with the other medicine cats like this again.
But now, here she was with Fawnheart heading to the half moon gathering to meet with the other medicine cats. Softpelt's fluffy white fur was standing on end as she tried not to bounce on her paws. That wouldn't look dignified beside her 'mentor'.
The titles were admittedly a bit weird, but Softpelt had been no stranger to odd jobs. And she didn't mind technically falling into the 'apprentice' role. Fawnheart had been the more experienced healer anyways even though she was much younger than Softpelt. Softpelt more saw it as them being partners rather than 'mentor and apprentice'. Fawnheart was just more worthy of holding the official title, leaving Softpelt to take the secondary role.
Not that she minded. She'd been on cloud nine since. Thanking StarClan for this second chance.
"This is exciting, I wonder what the other medicine cats are like, I was always too busy in FallClan to even attempt trying to make a half moon gathering if there was one. I'm so excited! Aren't you Fawnheart?" She asked.
"Here's the Gathering Autumn," Mistyveil said dryly. Mistyveil had previously been the medicine cat of WinterClan, but as of a couple weeks ago had stepped down and moved into SunClan. Autumngossamer was the new "medicine cat" of SunClan, known as the tooth sayer or something of the other. But apparently tooth sayers don't know where moon creek is because quote on quote, why would a sunclan cat go somewhere with a moon? Whatever the heck that meant.
"O-M-Gosh it's as ugly as I thought it would be! Thank-you so much Hottie!" Autumngossamer enthused, her girlish inflection was so high it could pierce ear drums.
"Yeah," Mistyveil said slowly.
"Mouse brained, sheltered orchid kid," Mistyveil thought in her head as she headed off.
Autumngossamer stepped forward into Moon Creek, so this was the place everyone went to. Although it had moon in its name she was pretty sure the name was actually coined by clan cats, not moon worshipers. She was pretty sure they didn't know how offensive it was to name the creek something like that. Heck, she hadn't known until she entered SunClan just how much the moon sucked. She rolled back her shoulders glancing around, wow, no one was here. What a dead party.
"Hel-lo? Where are all the cute boys and I expected a few fluffy well muscled toms to curl around me like a fur coat to keep warm. What kind of service are us medicine cats getting over here?" Autumngossamer asked in disgust. What-ev-er maybe medicine cats got sucky treatment cause they were pushovers, but not this soothsayer.
"Unfortunately for you.. all the good ones come out at night." Tealeaves would usually never say such a thing but, It was too good to resist. The Moonclan medicine cat never got the chance to antagonize any Sunclan cats before now, how could he pass up an opportunity to prod at the she-cat now? It was all in good fun of course. The gray tom hurried to fall in place beside the soothsayers, his serpentine green eyes glittering with quiet amusement.
'You should socialize more', 'You should try to make friends with the other medicine cats', yadda yadda. What, was he a kit? Sure, Hystericplague was about the age of an apprentice, but he had proved himself, hadn't he? Even so, here he was, at Moon Creek with his apprentice. "I suppose you'll just have to make due," the hairless tom dryly replied to Autumngossamer's comment as he stepped up to the others. "Sorry not all of us can be fluffy and muscled." Hystericplague was rather lanky, with almost disproportionate body parts. The complete opposite of what the soothsayer had wanted.
Lambpaw fallowed his mentor, looking up at the tom a bit surprised by his comment before shaking it off and taking in the other medicine cats. The young apprentice was different than the others, short legs and dark cream fur that curled into little ringlets against his frame, his brownish/grey eyes glowed under the light of the moon and a small smile played on his lips. Outward he was an image of innocence and even hearing him speak you would not question the thought, innocent as he was though, he wasn't naive and far wiser than his age would suggest. "I'm kinda fluffy, but I'm small so I guess I don't count." He said in response to the soothsayer with a cheeky grin.
Autumngossamer let out a huff looking over the three toms that had approached, "Well, this'll have to do," She said boredly, clearly not recognizing that Tealeaves and Lambpaw as MoonClan residents. She gestured to the three toms, "Although you're all handsome I doubt any of you will be fanning me with a leaf or serving me spicy mice. You could hang onto my every word and laugh at all my jokes though," She pointed out.
"Soooo, what do you boys study in the medical field? I'm still trying to choose a focus, I was thinking under water therapy cause it just sounds so cool, but I also don't know what that like means," Autumngossamer said with a tip of her head.
Why was he here? Why did Hystericplague agree to come? Not only did this place have annoying cats, but he hated others and didn't even believe in Starclan. He had never seen them, and he needed to see things in order to believe them. Still, a wicked grin crossed his face as he looked over Autumngossamer and the other medicine cats. Perhaps he could learn something from them, or maybe one of them would agree to become his test subject. Before he could reply to the she-cat's question, he broke out into a coughing fit, but pulled himself together quickly. "I experiment with herbs, mostly," he said, as if nothing had happened. "Elixirs, poisons, ways to help preserve prey longer. Anything and everything. Currently, I've been tasked with coming up with a way for someone to safely carry a litter. Any suggestions?"
( Jetclaw sorry I didnt see this lol! It helps a lot when people tag me for future references ;D <3 )
Fawnheart purred and nodded, "I suppose I am. This is my first half moon gathering since before I moved to Fallclan!" Fawnheart loved having Softpelt at her side. Things had never gone so smoothly in the medicine den in a long time. Softpelt had been such help to her especially as she juggled the life of a medicine cat and a queen. It was relieving to have a secondary medicine cat in case she ever had to be with her kits. Fawnheart didnt see Softpelt as her apprentice either. She saw her more as a partner and as a secondary medicine cat. They both learn from each other and Fawnheart couldnt think of a better partner.
The two Springclan medicine cats arrived at the gathering just in time to hear the conversation and what Hystericplague had said. "Well, Softpelt and I have been experimenting with herbs, too. Since Softpelt was Fallclan's medicine cat, there wasn't much more I could teach her so we began expanding our knowledge. We've been mixing herbs and noticing that certain combinations help different symptoms. As for safely carrying a litter, that is a little more complicated. We havent quite discovered that, yet. However, we discovered that if you chew mint into a poultice and message it onto a sore muscle, it eases the pain and relaxes the muscle."
Lambpaws gaze was flicking between Fawnheart and Hystericplague, his ears perked as he listened carefully to their conversation and taking in every detail of what they spoke. He made a mental note of using mint to massage onto sore muscles, he could learn so much from the other medicine cats and it excited him. The new apprentice moved from his mentors side and walked to stand beside the two of them. "Hello, I'm Lambpaw." He introduced himself.
Fawnheart looked down at Lambpaw, her amber eyes were warmer than the sun and they held a sense of comfort. "Hello, Lambpaw!" Her voice was soft and welcoming, her words poured from her mouth thick and sweet like honey. "My name is Fawnheart. This is my partner, Softpelt" she flicked her tail toward the white she-cat nearest to her. "We are Springclan's medicine cats."
His smile grew wider at the comforting sound of the she-cats voice. "It's nice to meet you both, I'm Moonclans new medicine cat apprentice." His words came out with a purr, a tingle of joy running through his tightly curled pelt. "You said if you chew mint you can use it to help sore muscles right?" He was curious to know more, his eagerness to learn bubbling to the surface.
"The pleasure is all mine, young Lambpaw" the cream Somali she-cat purred. She chuckled at his enthusiastic energy, "you heard correctly. Mint is a very powerful herb and I believe it could be used for much more. Softpelt and I have been experimenting with the herbs. Now that leafbare is coming, it's important that we learn as much as we can. It may save a life." She wrapped her feathery tail neatly around her moss soft paws. Her scent was a mixture of many herbs but did not carry the bitterness and tang along with it. Instead, she smelled more like flowers. "You know, Lambpaw, even though you have a mentor, you can always ask us questions at any time. It doesnt even have to be here at the gatherings. You can come see me any time with your questions. Sometimes, we can learn more just by sharing information with each other. We are medicine cats, we look out for one another. No secret or untold knowledge is worth a life."
