Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
So at this point i believe most of us know this is a problem, so there’s no use debating about it. i will leave the discussion about activity requirements to the mods, as it doesn’t affect every user on the site. What does affect every user, is the lack of users. So, that’s why i’ve made this. Let’s brainstorm together to figure out more things we can do to help bring in new users.
I can get the facebook page back up and running, and i already booted the tumblr page back up.
I haven't thought about it too much beyond this point, but I've floated the idea of the offsite administrator's role to shift priorities from the revamp site and onto marketing instead, & potentially that could mean them or another user taking over the social media accounts again (which I never would have found on my own to be honest, so thank you xD)
ProBoards has some marketing tools in the admin section, but they're very....uhh, I feel like I have to get a business major before I could actually work with them x'D But I'm sure with some experimentation they're usable.
Honestly we have tried to have this discussion for years now. It’s eithwr half the people denying it needs to be done, or people saying they’ll advertise and end up later saying they don’t have time.
I’m leaving classic within the next few months, and 110% sure I will not be returning. My life priorities have given me more to worry about now. So soon, I’ll no longer be a member. As we grow older, a lot of us grow away. I assume that if younger users are not found, Classic will go away as well. :/
komiharu i would be more than happy to pass off the facebook group (and if i happen to make an actual facebook page for the public). I'll also be willing to share the tumblr, but please don't kick me off of it, as it was something that i had started on my own a few years ago and have many ideas for it. it's my baby.
violet this is why i brought it here as a discussion, so those that believe it's a problem can discuss on how to help. no single person would have all of the responsibility, and everyone could help. like with the tumblr, even just a single person reblogging the advertisement post will help just as much, if not more, than the post being made in the first place. if you don't mind me asking though, why have you decided to leave? you can pm me if you would prefer.
alright so since there's very little brainstorming going on, how about i kick it off with some ideas for the tumblr page
Art Gallery We have so many talented people here, and it would be amazing to share that with everyone! we could have a thread for people to post art that they want to be shared on the tumblr (with credit, ofc. always credit your artists), and other people love looking at art. not only would it be fun, and it would feel amazing for someone to have their art featured, but it would open a wider field to throw ourselves into and get our name out there. more people look for art than they do roleplay sites, and if the art led them here, then what's the downside?
Clan of the Week just a randomly chosen clan/group to feature on the tumblr. maybe it could be the group with the highest number of posts that week, or the most improved since the last week. it's something to help people get a feel for what's on the site before they join. they'll be able to learn about each clan just by going through the tumblr. plus, it could be something for leaders to work towards. getting your clan featured would be an achievement, would it not?
Member/Staff of the Month this would just be a highlight of the members chosen from the otms. because right now, it doesn't really feel like you're winning anything. you're voted as a winner otm, and then just move on with your life. it would be really nice to have some recognition for that! someone, either the EM or someone running the tumblr, could come up with a blurb about the otm winner, and it would be featured on the blog. it's a nice way to have our community feel recognized for their hard work, and everyone deserves to know how much they mean to others.

Those are all really good ideas,If possible we could also do a RP of the week or even do it biweekly. We already have a vote for it and we could use it to post onto the tumblr page, it would give anyone outside of here a good look at some of the RP that goes on and maybe push their interest into checking out the site.

As an adult who does marketing for small businesses as my actual real life job I want to point out that facebook, instagram, tumblr, twitter, and pinterest can boost a businesses popularity and all around knowledge by about 200% in a month if consistently done.
Granted as stated by other users this is not a business. But the idea can be used the same. I am happy to bring these formats to life with some help. I am currently working on setting up Classic on voting sites to get users to vote to boost its all around popularity. Also discussing affiliations and encouraging the University site to target a different market of users as well as encouraging the advertising page. I am a strong believe that Proboards was not built to be a single site entity but more like a hive where the combs share.
Something similar was done in the past, but since we are a more writing based community.. could something on Archive of Our Own be feasible?
To explain further. Someone could take a more robust plot/rp thread/character and write even just a one shot citing here and the owners of the material. I feel like that might be appealing the the audience we're looking for? Especially if they like the idea of a clan or group we've created here?

Just popping in to say, I love all these ideas! I am bit tired, so I'll touch on each idea specifically a bit later, when I can start properly categorizing it all, but I wanted to thank you all for your ideas. Whether you've already posted an idea, have one that's still rough around the edges, or one you're not quite ready to share, I'm definitely listening, and going to be taking them all into consideration, so keep them coming. <3

I know I've just returned and done quite a bit of reading on what's been going on. I really want to improve and keep this site going, I think in the end that's what most people's goal is. I know I might be coming from a point of view that's not completely informed so I am aware I might make mistakes. But enough of that! This is the suggestions thread and I'm here to offer my support, nothing else.
Facebook and thumblr are both very good platforms to advertise this site, I also think what aberrantfox suggested, instagram, twitter and pinterest are all platforms that could help us promote this website. I am happy enough to promote this website on my twitter page and also help support and run any social media platforms, if needed. Or at least, help write the content and someone else can post it, since I've just returned.
This is a reach, but we could contact writing sites like Wattpad (I'm sure there is more) and promote our website through them. I know there is a rping community on Wattpad (quite large too).
I could start advertising on Wattpad, actually! I have two Wattpad accounts, one for my actual original books and one for fanfics, so it would be rather easy for me to jump back into that and try to get people on Classic!
