Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
( Open to all WaterClan, as well as any cat related to Phoenixriver/star, and/or any cat Chimerahunt lets onto WaterClan land. Set the morning that Chimerahunt is to leave to get his lives. )
The day before, and the she-cat had been joking around with her kits, one last hurrah to clear the air and end things with her family, together once more. Even if it was only for a few days. When she went to sleep that night, in the comfort of the elders' den, she wore a smile on her face.
It had been a good last day.
At some point in the night, her breathing turned ragged and then slowly, but surely... ceased.
Phoenixstar opened her eyes, viewing the den in the early dawn light, a small smile on her face as she rose to her paws and turned to see her body, still curled up where she had fallen asleep. She stared at it wistfully for a long few moments before she turned to view camp.
It had been five years and just about a week ago that Musicalstar had first appointed her Co-Deputy. ( July 2nd, 2014 )
It had been four years and just about a month ago that she'd become WaterClan's leader. ( June 5th, 2015 )
It had been just over two and a half years ago that she'd stepped down from her position as leader after losing the majority of her remaining lives to her final kitting. ( November 27th, 2016 )
Over two years in service to WaterClan as their deputy or leader. But now, they didn't need her anymore, not in that way, anyhow. This place had taken her in as a kit when she'd needed someone the most, had raised her into a strong warrior and intelligent leader. By no means had she been perfect, her faults were great, and her mistakes numerous, but she didn't regret one moment of it. Not one life lost, not one hardship or friend she had made. If she had the choice, she'd do it all again without question. She'd learned a lot in her time, and even now, as she left her son to lead the clan in it's new direction, she learned more. Phoenixstar would watch over them from now on, from her place in the stars. Forever.
The StarClan feline smiled, even knowing that today would be a hard one for her children, and for Chimerahunt... Chimerastar, especially. She slipped into the nursery, touching her nose to the fur of her youngest grandkits, to Tinybreath, even knowing they weren't aware of her presence. She entered the warriors den, brushing her tail lightly across the backs of her elder grandkits and kits, wishing them pleasant dreams in the time before they woke to begin their day. The brilliant silver tabby paused at the leader's den before she entered, it's walls familiar, and the cat within just as near to her heart as the rest. She touched her nose to his sleeping form gently, a proud smile crossing her features.
"I will see you tonight, Chimerastar." She murmured, her voice a mere breeze that barely stirred the den.
With her final goodbyes done, she lifted her head and turned to look for the StarClan cats, for the familiar faces it had been ages since she'd seen. Her mate, Lightningswift. Her best friend, Sparrowmark. Her kits, and so many more that would take too long to name.
Landon was preparing to leave. It was still early, but his work here was done, and as much as he loved his clan he just wanted to go home. Here wasn't home anymore. He swung by the elder's den to check on his mother, to say his goodbyes, but she was asleep. He stopped and sighed, leaning against the den wall with an affectionate half-smile, watching her sleep.
Then she wasn't asleep. Panic seized in his chest as he stumbled over to nose her and felt her cooling furs and he choked, his heart stuttering as his mind tripped and tumbled over his thoughts because this wasn't possible this was his mother and— and—
The black tom stumbled from the den with a strangled cry. He couldn't form any words, but the agony in his voice said it all.
He grinned fiercely as he saw his old friend come to him at last, and it took all his willpower not to bound to her side and embrace her. Her mate and her family would have that honor first, but Sparrowmark was glad to see her again; it had been too long, far too long, since they had sat together beside the river. "You took your time, didn't you? I've been so bored up here, you have no idea."
The rest of the clan was still asleep, but there were a few cats standing there in the clearing, waiting for Ladon to emerge.
For a few moments, Ladon's mate Urania wasn't sure what was happening. She had been waiting next to the fresh-kill pile with their still half-asleep sons, Cygnus and Orion, while he said his final farewell to his mother before they left for the twolegplace. The young cream tabby was beyond honored and relieved that Phoenixriver had approved of her, and even more that she had been understanding of her son's new path in life as a kittypet. The elderly feline had been so kind and sweet, but also had a sharp wit to her, one that reminded her of her own mother, Brizo. She had hoped that their next visit might bring the two elders to meet one another.
But then, she saw the pure sorrow and devastation in Ladon's eyes. And she immediately realized what had happened. "No..." Urania gasped in disbelief, and then sprinted forward to meet her love in a tight embrace, fighting back a sob of her own. "My darling, I'm so sorry..."
Hidden in the shadows, unnoticed by the two lovers, an elderly tortoiseshell she-cat silently bowed her head, not even trying to stop the flood of tears that poured from her hazel eyes. Perhaps it was because she herself was a former leader, or maybe because Phoenixstar had been her mentor and closest confidant...but she had suddenly woken up at dawn with a sharp, tight pain in her chest, and she knew. She knew. "You waited long enough for this, old friend," she whispered to the wind. "Go to your mate...and wait with Violetstar and Caspianpaw until it's my time to join you. I'll see you soon."
Lightningswift stared at Phoenixriver. Phoenixstar. How could he possibly not stare at her? The stars around them, all of the afterlife, paled in comparison to her. She was his star. She was his sun. His moon. His world. She was his everything. Everything around him slowed to a stop as their eyes met, blazing crimson and cool green, and it was like he was seeing her for the first time all over again.
The golden-brown tabby started running. Faster. Faster. Faster.
Lightningswift tackled Phoenixriver in a crushing hug, sending the both of them tumbling through a field covered in stardust like a pair of excited kits, laughing loudly with joy and relief and tears and love all of the while. When the two of them rolled to a stop, he was laying on top of her, staring into her eyes, and he let out a sheepish chuckle, leaning forward to rest their foreheads together.

It had been many, many moons since Thunderstorm had heard from her brother. But at the touch of her mother's spirit, the feline stirred, only to hear Dragonguard... Landon's cry. And in an instant, the she-cat shot to her paws and was out of the warriors' den, Cerberusspirit on her paws when he heard her scrambling up. And that was how it went this morning with the clan rising. Thunderstorm found her way to her littermate, found his mate comforting him as the stench of death seemed to hang once more in the air. Not again. First it had been her father, her mate, her kits, her sister... and now, it was her mom. She sat herself heavily beside Gravelshell in stunned silence, almost numb to it all. The pair had their disagreements, especially when Thunderstorm had first gone to SummerClan in her youth. But she just didn't feel right, intruding on Landon's grief with his mate. And Cerberusspirit was already headed for the leader's den, undoubtedly going to rouse Chimerahunt from his rest. One day ago, and they'd been a family, if even for a day. And now, they were all here, but the dusty orange feline couldn't feel further from those she called her own.
She barely had the chance to turn, beaming at her old friend, a sarcastic quip on her tongue, than she was tackled by her mate. Child-like giggles escaped her as they tumbled across the ground, his touch as familiar as the stripes of her own pelt. Phoenixstar looked at him for a long few moments when they came to a stop, simply staring up at him with a smile she couldn't help but have. It hadn't even been that long, not really, but she felt like it had been an entire lifetime. Happy tears dripped from her eyes as she pressed her forehead against his with a loud purr.
Phoenixstar was home. And though she would miss her kits who still walked among the living, she was more than content to wait for them, to watch over them from the stars, with her mate at her side. "I love you too, Lightningswift. I've missed you so much." Those words didn't do her feelings justice, not by a long shot. But they wouldn't just have to suffice anymore. From now until an eternity went by, she could show him.
Landon buried his face in his mate's fur as he choked on sobs. Cygnus looked up at him, lost, as the clan woke around him.
The clan's grief woke him from his uneasy slumber, though really he had barely been asleep at all, not with panic and fear and grief converging on his mind. He was back home but he was in a new den, the wrong den, it was too big and empty and as much as he hated being around the other prisoners at least it hadn't been this lonely. Slowly Chim looked up as Cereberusspirit entered, and met his gaze with a slow, disbelieving shake of his head. There was only one reason his family would cry like that, but he couldn't-- he couldn't handle that right now. Hadn't they already lost enough?
"Cerberus... she can't be," he rasped weakly. He rose unsteadily to his paws and stepped toward his brother. "Don't say it."
Wyverndelirium stood behind Thunderstorm, staring past at the den, his gaze empty and confused. He wanted to scream and keen and cry and grieve like his other brother but he couldn't make a sound, couldn't comprehend what was happening, he was in shock and he couldn't believe his mother was really gone.
No...it wasn't possible. At Landon's cry, Tinybreath had rushed out of the nursery as fast as she could, leaving her confused nieces to watch cautiously from inside the den, only to stop short when she realized that all her siblings were there...gathering mournfully around Phoenixriver's den. Her pale-blue gaze swept from Landon, curled tightly around his mate as he sobbed, then to Wyvern and Thunder; their faces blank with disbelief. "No." She shook her head, tears already filling her eyes as she tried to reject the reality of the situation. But none of her brothers or sisters were meeting her gaze. "No. No. No! NO! MOTHER!" Tinybreath sprinted into the den out of sight...the silence lasted for only a moment before another yowl of anguish echoed across the camp.
Despite how early it was, Orion was now fully awake, watching his family members cry with startled confusion. Glancing around, he noticed his older cousin Slipkit over by the nursery, looking similarly spooked. With a quick gesture of his tail for Cygnus to follow, he scampered over to her, leaving his parents to mourn in peace. "What's going on?" He began to ask, only to jump in fright as Tinybreath's sobbing suddenly pierced the air. The normally cheerful grey she-cat was disturbingly quiet, her ears pinned back solemnly before she finally answered. "I think...I think grandmother's with my mom now."
Lightningswift purred, leaning forward to lick Phoenixriver's forehead lovingly. "I'm not going to leave you ever again," he whispered in her ear, and she could almost hear his smile. "Now I'll never let you go. Can't go back now; you're stuck with me." Chuckling to himself, he stepped to the side to allow his mate to get back up, glancing back over his shoulder to where Sparrowmark was with a knowing gleam in his eyes. "Though obviously, I can't keep you all to myself..."
Another figure padded up alongside Sparrowmark, her long grey fur flowing softly around her as she respectfully dipped her head to the tom. Looking over at Phoenixriver, Swangrace's face lit up in a bright grin at the sight of her mother. Though she never regretted her choice of giving up her life for her kits, the beautiful warrior was well aware of how hard her family had taken the loss, her mother included. It filled her with joy knowing how far they had all come since then, and she couldn't wait to reunite with all of them. "Mother dearest, I'm so joyous to seeth thee. My deepest apologies I wasn't able to waiteth for thee. How art mine kits?"
