Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"You think you can stop me? Why, I was squashing rats when you were just a thought!"
Looming over his victim, his lips pulled back in a snarl, a harsh guttural laugh claws its way up his throat. He was draped in shadow, sharp blue eyes a cutting menace. As his silhouette fell across the smaller cat, it became too much, and with a piercing yowl of terror, the fluffy white kitten turned around and fled.
Relaxing from his angry stance, the dark gray apprentice stumbled into the light with his sides shaking in laughter. He stumbled to the ground and rolled back and forth. "Did you see his face?!" Sootpaw purred, to no one in particular. Scaring Kingkit had become one of his favorite pastimes. His mentor was always busy being a leader, or at least, busy enough to bother him. He wanted her attention all the time with no exceptions.
“Apprentices are supposed to be role models to kits not bullies.” Frostcloud reprimanded the apprentice after having entered camp in time to see the confrontation.
"Was teaching how to be scary. Was going to learn it anyway," he answered with a shrug, looking up at his mentor with an impatient, narrow blue gaze. "Can we go training today?"
Frostcloud sighed but didn't know how to respond to his excuses for terrorizing the kit. When he asked about training, she nodded, feeling bad that she hadn't had much time lately for the young tom. "Of course." she said.
"Let's go now!" In an instant, the sulky tom had perked up and was ready to go. Already, he was bounding toward the entrance to their camp, his head bobbing with each step and tail streaming behind him.
Frostcloud smiled at the tom's enthusiasm for training and trotted after the speeding tom, her longer legs helping her to keep up with the smaller cat. "Head to the training meadow." She called out after him, figuring that he had already done some exploring while she had been too busy to get to his training.
"Okay!" Either he'd been adventuring on his own, or he sped off without a second thought to where he was going --- both true, as it happened. Sootpaw bounded off toward the training meadow cheerfully.
Once they got to the training hollow Frostcloud stopped and looked to her apprentice. "What do you want to do?" She asked. She figured that since she hadn't had the time to actually spend with him she'd let him chose what they did for today.
His energy had waned some by the time they reached the hollow and he puffed for breath after his eager sprint. At her question, he looked up with determined eyes. "Fighting! We fight!" Sootpaw always wanted to battle training. If he had it his way, he'd never do anything else.
Frostcloud wasn't really surprised that the tom wanted to do fighting training since he had always been fighting with others even when he was a kit. "Alright then." she said. "What do you know already?" she asked.
"I know the leap-and-hold, and the back kick, and the tail yank, and how to pounce on a cat and just beat 'em up with your instincts." Sootpaw learned the training moves relatively quickly, but he always preferred to follow his gut, and was obstinate about doing whatever felt right.
He shrugged. “No. All of it. Right now.” There was a rebellious nonchalance to him even as he was impatient to begin – he was entitled. But those cobalt eyes were still unmistakably daring and determined, just as they had been before, even as an elder.
He studied for a moment, testing if she was telling the truth. He liked what he saw, and he nodded. "Okay. We can do that." Any training was better than no training, but he was still tired of just learning the basics of all the apprentice tasks. It made sense, that he had to start small, but he was impatient and he felt like his instincts should make up for any knowledge gaps. Sootpaw needed the training, though, even if he wouldn't admit it to himself: the slight blindness in his left eye was enough of an impairment to give him trouble, and he was clumsy enough already.
Frostcloud considered the young tom for a moment before speaking. "Show me what you know and can do right now and I'll give you pointers on what to do differently and we'll go from there." she said.
Sootpaw didn't bother to acknowledge her. He shot forward immediately, ducking low and slamming his shoulder toward her chest - falling into her, really, as he partially lost his balance while he lashed out with a forepaw to sweep hers away.
The blow was a bit of surprise so Frostcloud stumbled slightly with an audible "oof" when he hit her square in the chest, which gave her just enough space to unintentionally avoid his paw sweep.
