Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
William paced nervously outside his den, a surprising show of emotions for the normally stoic tom. His ears kept flickering towards the tree roots that shaped the den's entrance. Inside his four children slept, children he only learned of this morning. Their mother had been a loner he had met up with while he was on an excursion in the city. At first he was shocked, but the timing lined up and they all looked rather like him. Their mother had not been ready to raise them so after weaning they were dropped off for him to continue to raise to adulthood. He wasn't opposed to having children, but it scared him to the core the thought of messing them up. William also had the whole extra thing of telling Honey, who he was rather close too. Honey just made him a wreck most of the time. But it wasn't like they had been as close as they were then and they were now, actually he thought they had only started talking when he had gone off to the city.
He was disturbed from his runaway thoughts by soft footsteps coming his way. Looking up he saw the golden tom make his way through the green undergrowth. For once in his life he did not know what to say, how to say it. Shuffling his paws, his ears drooped slight as he looked into Honey's eyes. "I, um... I have children, they're in the den."
Concern laced his features, head cocked to the side in confusion and wonder as he made his way towards William, slow and cautious as the tom seemed anxious about something. He had been thinking about the two of them when he'd spotted William sitting outside of his den. Honey wasn't sure what the two of them were when he thought about it, close that was for sure, but what were they? Best friends? Lovers? He didn't know but it had never bothered him either, it merely made him wonder. The tom was determined to wait and be patient, he would be whatever William need of him, regardless of his feelings. Honey really hoped it was lovers though; hope that was crushed only moments later. The fact didn't change with the words that left the other tom.
Now he was really confused. Maybe he'd been wrong about the lovers part as clearly William had someone already for he now had children with them. Taking a calming breath to help steady himself and to reel back the feeling of jealousy about the female in William's life, the regret of not speaking up sooner about his own feelings, the loss of what could have been. He mattered not in this moment. William and his family did, and Honey was truly happy for the tom. He had always wanted a family, had spoken of it before. Voice even, cheerful, maybe even to cheerful for him and with a smile to boot, Honey called out to his..friend. "Congratulations."
William has planned to one day have kits but this wasn’t it. “Well their mother weaned them and left they with me. I had met her one on of my little trips outside of BrookClan, I had completely forgotten about her till she showed up. I have children now.” The way he said the last part made him sound like he was still in disbelief, which he was. Willam would not abandon him children no matter how much trouble they would cause him, though he really hoped it would not drive Honey away.
He nodded, for what else could he do with news like this. Surely the kits weren’t that old? Old enough to be weened yes, but that only meant that his lover was newer, newer then him. Honey put his feelings aside, plastered a smile on his face that he hoped did not wane. His heart ached at what could have been, and that someone else had gotten to be. “Well, my friend, do they at least have names? Or are they merely nameless kits.” The tom tried to joke, but it came off more as a sad realization. The smile not his tone reaching his normally bright eyes.
“She was nothing to me.” William blurted out, hoping to ease any pain Honey felt. It had been a stupid mistake on his part that he wished he could just erase. He at time wasn’t sure what Honey meant to him and now seeing the tom hurting told him the true depth of his feelings. William nearly went to rub against Honey to comfort him but realized that it could very well be unappreciated at this moment. Emotions and feelings were so hard why did he even try this whole having a loving and caring relationship? It seemed like William was only good at messing it up.
(I like don’t know how I wanna reply to this! Do I wanna make him basically deny it or just get his hopes up or wait for the kits to help/point it out? I’m gonna do denial lol cus the angst why not)
Honey was sure he was just trying to make the situation not seem as bad, for it was clear he was not the toms focus. Maybe William didn’t swing that way as he thought. Clearly this mother hadn’t meant anything to him but she was still a thing that had happened. And something that made it clear to How y where he stood; his close friend and nothing more. “Okay. Do the kits have names? Or did this nameless mother not give them any names either?” He’d worry about himself and his own feelings later. These kits were more important than himself.
