Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
His brother hadn't been there to assign the morning's patrols, so Wyverndelirium quietly decided to lead his own. He had taken his niece Coralreef and the apprentice Drippaw with him to check the borders, and the quick young apprentice had caught a squirrel on the way home. The little tom still struggled to get used to fishing, but Wy had to admit Drippaw was very good at hunting on land. As he led the group back into the cave, he shook water off his fur and stopped to glance around the camp once more. There was no sign of his brother.
Probably found some quiet corner of the territory to sulk.
“Wyverndelirium.” A voice sounded from behind the tom. It was Violetstar making her way over to him. “Have you seen Chimerahunt?” Her voice sounded worried, and her face potrayed it. As she came to a stop in front of the warrior, and awaited a response, all she could think about was... What if..?
The thought whispered in her ear, haunting her mind.
"No." His nostrils flared as he answered and turned to look at her, gaze narrowing slightly in annoyance. "Probably off sulking some place. He'll show up when he gets hungry, maybe. Didn't even show up to assign patrols," he added, his gaze hardening, this time accusing as it focused on the leader. She had been the one to make him of all cats the deputy, so in his eyes it was her fault clan duties weren't being done. They had all known how incapable the ginger tom was.
“I’m worried.” She confessed, clearly a bit blind to the tom’s attitude about the deputy. “I fear something has happened. Chimerahunt wouldn’t just leave and not show up.” Violetstar mewed, her voice quaking slightly as she spoke. What if something happened to him? What if she lost yet another deputy? Violetstar felt her paws quiver.
“Yeah, he would.” Wy stared at her. Why was she so worried? “He always does this. This isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last. I tried to tell you when you made him deputy,” he added impatiently, “he isn’t responsible enough. He can’t put the clan before his own needs.”
“He’s your brother!” Her voice came out quick, her eyes glazing over as she took in what the tom said. How could he not be worried at all? What if he really was hurt or something had happened. “Don’t you care about him?” Was this why Chimerahunt couldn’t be happy? Couldn’t feel comfortable in his own home..?

“Wyverndilirium is right. Chimerahunt may have left.” A smooth voice spoke up. Riverwolf padded towards the two with a look of fake concern on his face. “I know he is your friend and we want to think the best, but we all know Chimerahunt wasn’t happy here. We can’t be sure where his loyalties lie.” He meowed gently, intertwining his tail with Violetstar’s to reinforce his ‘sympathy.’ His gaze traveled to the other tom and he nodded in understanding to his frustration. “Waterclan needs a strong, sure deputy that knows where his heart belongs. Chimerahunt probably knew that.”
His short fur bristled. Of course he cared! He just didn’t see a reason to panic when his brother had been working on his disappearing act all his life. Sitting in some quiet corner doing nothing for days on end - that had been his entire existence, and Wy wasn’t convinced the deputy had changed. He nodded to Riverwolf at his support.
“He’ll show up in a day or two, I’m sure. Won’t even apologize.”
Shock crossed her features as Riverwolf came to join in on the conversation. Violetstar pulled away from him, her gaze hardened as she let it sink in what was happening. They had such little faith in him! Chimerahunt would never be seen as the cat that she saw, her friend, a loyal and hardworking cat when he was needed...
Violetstar felt almost as if she were going to be sick. Was it the situation, or something else making her sick?
She’d denied it for some time. Even closed herself off from Riverwolf. Avoiding his presence and wondering if this was really what she wanted or if it were a moment of weakness. Didn’t she love him? The emotions that pumped through her like a confusing poison felt overwhelming.
Perhaps she was withdrawing because she felt now, as if her opinion didn’t matter.

Riverwolf rested his tail on her back and let out a sign. Inwardly, frustration surged through him. Yet, there was also a feeling of triumph. He had made her feel weak. The only opinion that mattered was his, of course. He was the god Waterclan needed.
“I’m sorry. I know you probably didn’t see it going this way. I’m afraid a lot of the clan does not share your faith in him.” He responded, even gentler now. There was power in his quiet voice, though. She needed to know who knew best for the clan. “We can send out a search party, but I’m not sure he wants to be found.”
His voice came out comforting, but his words felt like fire to her. Violetstar has a lot of emotions rolling in her, her eyes remaining a bit glazed as she felt the purr defeat settle. “If he is found, I want him brought straight to me.” She murmured softly, feeling herself press into his body. Her purple eyes were downcast, not even thinking that he could perhaps be able to feel the bulge that was starting in her stomach.
Denial of so many things rang through her mind. Has Chimerahunt betrayed my trust in him?
“A search party?” he meowed skeptically. That didn’t seem necessary... but if it would reassure the leader her deadbeat deputy wasn’t missing, then fine. “I don’t see why you’re so worried. But if you are truly worried, I can go check all his favorite places to sit and brood,” he concluded with a sigh, looking up at her.

(Throws self into thread)
"You really think he'd just ditch like this?" A sharp voice snapped as the flame orange frame of Rustyheart appeared on scene, green eyes focused on her older brother with an undisguised look of disgust. She wasn't the most friendly of cats, and most definitely not the first to defend others usually, however, Chimerahunt hardly had anyone in his corner, and as much as she hated to admit it, she believed in him. This was unlike him. "You're not StarClan's gift to WaterClan either, so I suggest you check yourself before you start bashing someone else while they're not even here to defend themselves."
Her glare turned on Riverwolf. "And you. Do you really think so little of your leader that she would choose someone unfit for the job of deputy? Maybe you should both take a hike and find a new clan to torment with your presences if that's the case."
And finally, to Violetstar. "May I lead the patrol?" She asked, though it sounded far more like a demand than a request. "Chimerahunt does like to disappear at times, but he wouldn't just skip out on you. This disappearance is weird, and frankly, I don't trust these two mousebrains to actually put in an ounce of effort."

Riverwolf met her harsh tone and glare with poise. The sympathy in his gaze grew as she insulted him more. She would pay for that. Despite his silent vow, his demeanor remained calm as he turned his attention to the fiery she-cat. “We are were simply concerned about Waterclan.” He meowed cooly. “But maybe it was wrong of us to think about the clan first. Of course you would be concerned for Chimerahunt. He is a valuable warrior and your brother. My apologies.” He dipped his head respectfully to Rustyheart. The action made him cringe inside. She did not deserve his grace. “Of course I respect Violetstar’s decisions.” He added, glancing over at the tortoiseshell next to him with sickly affection.

"Thinking of the clan first?" She scoffed. "Where's thinking about the safety of your deputy, and giving him the chance to prove himself? Has anyone ever thought that the reason he wants to be alone is because none of you will give him the time of day, and immediately turn to mocking him the second his back is turned? I'd say you clearly don't respect Violetstar, since you already admitted you don't have faith in Chimerahunt, which means you also don't have faith in Violetstar's ability to choose a proper deputy." Rustyheart was a cat who understood, more than anything, cats not believing in someone. She could see it clear as day in the two toms in front of her. It was the same lack of belief cats had in her, 'the poor little she-cat with the chaotic heart that could explode at any moment, and should never get involved in anything stressful' because it might kill her. And yet, the daughter of one of WaterClan's former leaders had been a Guardian, had stayed even when sickness rampaged the clan. And look, she was still alive. If she could overcome her own weaknesses, so could her brother, but not if everyone around him kept tearing him down in the process.
Her voice dropped to a deadly low as she continued, gaze locked on Riverwolf. "You're not thinking of WaterClan at all. If you were, you wouldn't be so quick to judge his disappearance, to try and convince Violetstar that what she sees in him was wrong, rather than try to find him."

Riverwolf met her gaze with flame and fury in his own eyes, yet his voice remained calm. “I understand you are angry about your brother’s, yet again, disappearance. Maybe you simply can’t see past your own made-up point of view to see that many of us are frustrated with him leaving Violetstar here to take care of the clan all on her own while he goes and sulks. Tell me when Chimerahunt has ever tried to make a friend with any of the rest of us?” He challenged then carried on softly. Dangerously soft. “Think what you want about us, but don’t dare question my loyalty to Waterclan. Don’t forget that some of us busted our backs taking care of the clan when it was sick while your brother sulked about like a raincloud.”
He flicked his tail and looked past her to the trees. “Go find him then. We will see what he has to say.”

He had been surprised the first time Rustyheart stood up for his brother. Now he was just annoyed. Wyverndelirium's ears pinned back and he hissed at her accusation. He stepped up at Riverwolf's side, lowering his head and lashing his tail. Wy didn't get angry easily, but he had spent so many moons defending his brother for nothing, and he was sick and tired of it. Both of them had wasted their lives but at least he was trying to move on; he was doing his best to help his clan, to find them the right deputy, and Chim didn't even bother to show up. He couldn't defend him any longer, and he couldn't imagine why anyone else would.
"I've tried to believe in him, but he has never earned any respect," he snapped back. "He won't even talk to me, he just stalks off to go sulk somewhere, like he is right now." He didn't want to doubt his leader, especially not right in front of her, but... "I understand that Violetstar thought she was making a good choice. But now she'll see she made a mistake, and she can remedy it." He glanced at her. "He can't stay deputy if he won't even do the tasks he's given."
“Enough!” Her voice cut through them, eyes suddenly catching the fire back within them. “A patrol will be sent out lead by Rustyheart. End of discussion.” Her tail lashed, gaze jerking between them. “Wyverndelirium, please make sure the rest of the patrols are sorted...” Her voice trailed as the light began to fade again. She really felt sick. She turned and began to head back to her den, paw steps slow.

Riverwolf's eyes flashed for a moment and he watched Violetstar leave with a curious expression. She did not look well.
His gaze traveled over to Wyverndelirium. "I understand your frustration." He told the other warrior with a nod. "Good luck finding him." He added to Rustyheart with a grim shrug, although he made sure there was no sarcasm in his voice. If he couldn't win her over, he at least needed to make her second guess herself.
With a final nod to both cats, he padded off in the direction of the leader's den. "Are you alright?" He asked as he neared the tortoiseshell. At this point, he had won her over. She was simply a confused pawn in his paws. "I am sorry if that was painful to watch. No one likes to argue with their clanmates."
