Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Jetclaw returned from a hunt, and a visit to the Janus camp carrying her prey and in particular a juicy mouse in her jaws. She set down the rest of her burden in the fresh kill pile before taking the mouse. A catch her brother gave her when she'd gone to see him, and he'd asked her to take it to Littlebird.
Carrying the mouse over to where she'd last seen Littlebird.
Littlebird's ear flicked forward at the sound of someone approaching the den that she shared with Foxstar. Her mentor was out attending to business, but had ordered her to remain in bed and rest. Foxstar feared that if she over exerted herself that it would make the kits come to soon. She had only announced her pregnancy a moon before, but it was already apparent that it was taking a toll on her young body. Her face was slowly becoming sunken in, unable to hold down much food. She moved clumsily, trying to adjust to the uneven weight now spread across her small frame. She smiled a little when she realized that it was JetClaw coming to visit. In JetClaw's absence, she always seemed to be by Littlebird's side watching out for her. "Good morning, JetClaw"
Jetclaw dipped her head as she came up and set the mouse down. "My brother sends a gift," She meowed purring as she nudged the mouse towards Littlebird. "I swear I feel like I've become my brother's messenger," She said with a mrrow of amusement. "I know you're having trouble with food, but here. It's a little small and if you take small bites maybe it'll help," Jetclaw offered.
Littlebird's laughter filled the den "Well messenger Jetclaw, thank you for bringing me Skipstep's gift" she graciously accepted the mouse and pulled it into her nest. She wasn't hungry, but if she had learned anything it was that until she ate something JetClaw wouldn't be satisfied.
She took a small bite, chewing it slowly. She had to force herself to swallow, and it would be a while before she could stomach eating another bite. "At least with you by my side, he can stop worrying so much" but perhaps he did have reason to worry. The pregnancy was taking its toll, and it was easy to see how sick she really was. Everyone was worried, well everyone but her it seemed.
Jetclaw sat down before her, seeing Littlebird struggle with eating. Perhaps if she engaged her in conversation she could encourage her to eat a little more easily if she wasn't super focused on eating.
"He cares a lot about you," Jetclaw said, "And I do too, I don't want to see you sick or hurt," She admitted eyes saddening her tail curling in close. "You're a part of our family now," She said trying to lighten it up with a soft purr. Though it was tinged with sadness. Their family had only consisted of her and Skipstep since the death of their mother and Grace so so long ago.
That word...family... For so long it had haunted her. Her father had done so many terrible things in the name of family. He had murdered more cats that she could count with his own paws, even more under his orders. He was a cat who would do anything to protect his blood.
The cats in SunClan did not truely understand her past, and perhaps that was why she had found herself drawn to Leatherstar at first. He had grown up alongside her, and seen the horror for himself. But that all she felt now looking at him, nostalgia. Perhaps in time she could share her past with those that she cared for. The two cat who knew the truth of her betrayl, and yet choose to accept her still.
She smiled, "That means more to me than I can express" she took another small bite. "I know that I do not say it often, but I care for both of you deeply"
Jetclaw purred and shifted closer to give Littlebird a friendly lick.
"You don't need to tell us, we know. You've brought some light back to my brother. He... he had a cat he was in love with. He told her... finally got up the courage after so long. I had to help nudge him along... then she just..." Jetclaw sighed heavily. "She vanished, and Skipstep was heartbroken. He became a janus out of his obsession to find something... anything about what became of her. I feared I'd lost my brother forever, then you came into our lives. I could see him change. He was reluctant... he got hurt once so of course he didn't want to risk it twice... but over time since you've become a part of our life he's more like the old him." She let out a purr, "So I thank you for that."
"What I have done for Skipstep is nothing compared to what he has done for me" she replied honestly. She smiled thinking about how he had offered to be this litters father with no hesitation. How he had held her as she cried, knowing that there was no going back to WinterClan. How he had encouraged her ambitions, and made her feel more powerful and beautiful each day.
"He is more than I ever hoped for, and better than any dream. He is going to be an amazing father" far better a parent than I will ever be... She wasn't sure how she felt about her kits making their way into this world. She was proud, nervous, and excited at the same time. Her father and mother had not exactly been a great role models for parenting.
"And you'll be an amazing mother," Jetclaw assured her letting out a purr. "And they'll of course have me their glorious aunt to teach them how to become the toughest cats in SunClan," Jetclaw meowed with a purr. "It's going to be great, and then one day it'll be you as the priestess of SunClan, with Skipstep as your faithful janus, and hopefully I'll be a fine senator, still as strong as ever even as I get older." She said flexing her claws. "Not to mention the sky'll be the limit for your kits."
No, the mountains were the limits, she thought to herself. At night she could still her father's whispers in her ears. How her kits would one day rule WinterClan once more, that it was their bloodright. In every since but one, he was right. She was decended from a long line of WinterClan leaders, and so was their father.Had she not come here... Perhaps they would have returned to take over one day. That had always been her hope, until Skipstep that is...
"Oh I'm sure you will be getting them into all sorts of mischief" she teased gently. Jetclaw would make a great aunt for them, and she had no doubt that if something were to happen to her and skipstep, that Jetclaw would ensure their safety. "You will be the fun aunt that they all clamor to see, and luckily a great kit sitter" she winked
"Oh definitely. I'll tell them stories, teach them a few battle moves, maybe get them stalking any rogue bug that happens to tread in camp." Jetclaw said with a purr of amusement. "It's going to be great," She assured Littlebird.
"They will be the best bug catchers in the clan with you teaching them" she giggled. It was in these little moments that she found reprieve from her worries and her duties. She smiled, she needed this more than Jetclaw knew. The nightmares that haunted her kept her from truly resting.
Jetclaw was a shimmer of hope and light in her life, a positive influence. No matter what seemed to be happening, she was always making her laugh. It was a nice change of pace from the seriousness of the rest of her life.
"I have been thinking about names..." she trailed off.
"Lionkit..."she trailed off not knowing how she would react. "My father may have been flawed, but he valued his family more than anything. It was his dream for me to continue on our family line, and it only seems right to name one of my kits after him"
Many cats would question her decision to name a kit after her father. He was seen as a 'mad king', a cruel cat had been responsible for many tragedies... Yet, he had many admirable qualities as well. Qualities that were only known by those closest to him. Like how he would have sacrificed himself for her with no hesitation. How he would have torn the mountain down if it meant being with her once more.
