Hawkeye liked to take a slightly different approach to mentoring. She had told Paintedpaw to run around a bit in the territory, to familiarize herself to a degree, and then come back with questions. Coddling your apprentice did them no favors and she was not concerned with the apprentice running in to danger. The warrior had been very clear that Paintedpaw should not go near the clan borders and if she sensed any signs of trouble then she needed to turn around and head straight back to camp. In the meantime, the large brown tabby had gone out to find some prey and now she waited for the young cats return.
She padded into camp slowly and at her own pace, a calm and content expression on her face as she did so. Though it definitely did not look as though she had had a very peaceful evening. No, her pelt was littered everywhere in small twigs and leaves; sticking up awkwardly and looking messy as ever. It was truly as if she'd gotten into a wrestling match with a tree. Sitting herself in front of her mentor as was getting at her meal, eyes bright. "I explored most of the territory! Well, the borders. Not the landmarks," Paintedpaw explained in her dulcet tone.

"Wonderful." She responded, unable to hold back her chuckle at seeing her apprentices appearance. "Did you come across any trouble? Your pelt seems to be full of twigs and leaves. If you're not carefully you'll get ticks or fleas that way." She stepped forward and removed a few from the apprentice in order to help her. "So? What did you think? Did you have fun?" In that moment one might have thought Hawkeye was her mother and not her apprentice but she didn't always take the traditional methods of teaching.
She could barley contain the way her eyes lit up as she said without a trace of fear, "Oh, yeah, it didn't go too smoothly! I was exploring around the Twoleg... thing? The one with those weird and long things that move in the wind. Anyways, I saw a couple of rabbits and I decided to try and chase them!" Paintedpaw exclaimed in a rush, shaking out her fur to dislodge most of the shrubbery. "But I wasn't paying attention and I kind of fell down the hill and landed in a bramble bush. But I'm fine, I didn't break anything or get cut. It was pretty embarrassing though." The creamy and brown splotched she-cat flicked her ears back quickly, eyes darting down to examine her paws. She probably sounded pretty lame right now, compared to an experienced Warrior.

The brown tabby couldn't help but smile with amusement and she glanced over her to check for injuries quickly. "Just be sure to be careful in the future. You got lucky this time, but you might not be in the future." Her words weren't harsh, but they were stern and held concern for the young cat. "Come on, let's go out and do some hunting. Sounds like you're ready if you were chasing rabbits." She chuckled.
Brightening up immensely at the prospect of hunting — or, at least, training on how to hunt properly — the dusty colored she-cat gave a little chirp of excitement and rose to her paws. "Definitely! I've been practicing as much as I could as a kitten. I mean, leaves aren't super impressive, I know," she added, ears flicking back with embarrassment. She should probably just shut up and let her mentor lead her out into the territory. She tended to babble about useless things when excited, or nervous. Which, Paintedpaw was both.
