Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He had not been mistaken after all. Littlewhisker sniffed at the ground outside FallClan’s camp, his intensity probably seeming strange to the steady comings and goings out of camp. He had scented it when he returned with the morning’s catch. It was easy to ignore when his nostrils were filled with the scent of freshkill. Upon inspection, however, the signs were clear.
Solid earth became like churning water in the bobbing and weaving of dappled sunlight. Littlewhisker stared pensively into the surrounding woods. It might not be that serious. He knew it didn’t make sense that prey would venture so close to camp. This fact had made him doubt his senses, but now he knew: this was real and it wasn’t normal.
“Hey, I’ve got something weird over here.” He called out to the warriors nearest to him. “Sick prey, maybe. Think we should go find it and eradicate it?”
Koispirit of all cats was closest, snoozing soundly in the comfort of the sunbathed clearing. Though as duty would call, her head picked up drowsily as another cat called for attention. Attention now caught, the white and orange dappled she-cat padded over carefully. The smaller, lithe she-cat drew closer to the tom and wrinkled her nose. "Good call," she said carefully. It did have a very distinct smell to it. Was it possibly because of the spreading outbreak of Greencough? Fear coiling in her stomach, the Deputy waved her tail and nodded at a couple of loose sticks that lay a little ways away. "Could you help me? I don't want any cat coming into contact with it. We can't risk anyone else becoming ill."
Littlewhisker nodded, remembering to dip his head respectfully to the deputy. "Absolutely, Koispirit," he meowed. "Let me know what you need and I'll do my best." The hunter parted his mouth slightly, breathing in the scent deeply. The scent of illness was clear, though he was no medicine cat. At this point, he expected that ill prey meant an ill Clan. Typically, Littlewhisker felt like the practice-run of any disease that made its way to the Clan -- so often, he felt bad that it was spread through diet. Yet, he recognized his role and took it dutifully. An experienced hunter like himself knew that part of the Clan's health relied on the healthiness of his catch. If something was diseased, he was most at risk.
Ill prey do not act predictably," he warned gently. "I can track it, but we won't know if it's dangerous or not until we find it." Littlewhisker stepped toward the deeper forest, narrowing his senses toward the trail that revealed itself to him. He trusted the deputy, although he hadn't gotten to know her very well yet. She seemed to be a level-headed cat, one he felt confident in following in any plan.
The white and auburn patched she-cat glanced worriedly at the prey as she scraped out a hole — effectively burying it in the soil by prodding it with the stick. "This will have to do, for now... At least it wont be out for any cat to think its food. Not that it smells good but... just to be safe, kits and all," she said, half to herself and half to the Warrior. Following after him, she glanced at the tom and gave a small tilt to her head. Koispirit laughed sheepishly as she said, "I've always been better with fighting... family trait. I'll leave the tracking to you? I'm really no good with prey..."
