Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Fluffy gray and white fur bounced lightly as the young tom awaited the arrival of his sister's friend, eyes the color of burnt gold peering out at the world around him as he awaited her arrival. He could already see her in his mind, with her beautiful fur and light heart, and the idea set his own heart aflutter at the thought of her arrival. The kitten, of course, hadn't ever been too close with Tasman's friend, or so he liked to pretend anyway. All their interactions had been in the name of keeping his sister safe from the non-royals, lest they try to take out any anger of their lack of status on his littermate, though secret smiles and carefree laughter spoke to something far deeper. Though aloof, even in youth, he'd been their protector, their ally and conspirator, even if he'd deny all claims to such things if asked.
In the end, his consideration of the other kitten was more than that of concern for his sister, for he truly did like the white feline, that was why he'd invited Taikatalvi out here to meet him, though he'd told a small little lie... claiming that Tasman was going to be in attendance. He wasn't exactly certain Talvi would have come purely for his presence, so this was simply a necessary evil to give him the opportunity to get his thoughts out of his mind and out into the open. Aylik couldn't live this way, with her not knowing how he felt, though the tom had no reason to think she felt the same way. She'd shown no interest that he could recall beyond those that thought him a mere friend at best, and yet, despite innumerable memories that told him she'd never reciprocate the feelings that had settled in his soul, he thought the risk worth it.
She deserved to know, after all, that the tom who followed her and Tasman around wasn't simply doing it out of a sense of duty to protect those in his care, though the idea of rejection made his chest ache and his breath catch for a few heartbeats with worry. However today ended up, this memory would be burned into him forever, whether he wanted it to be, or not.
Aylik hoped he would look back on the memory fondly.
Her heart was beating happily in her chest as she pranced over weeds and roots to meet her friends. It felt like it had been forever since she’d seen them. She was much closer with Tasman than her brother, but she held a special place in her heart for the tom. She had felt guilty for the longest time for not being able to consider him as a sibling in the same regard she considered Tas, until the night she realized she couldn’t lump him together with her because he meant something else to her: her heart pitter pattered when she so much as caught his gaze, a smile pulled at the corners of her mouth whenever he looked happy and she felt as if she were dancing in the clouds if he gave her the time of day to talk to her. She knew she had a heavy crush on the black and white tom; she also knew she’d get her heart broken for it. He was a Noble and she... well, she was as good as a servant to the eyes of the royals. They were from different worlds; she’d confess and he’d laugh in her face. Or look at her as if she was a particularly disgusting cockroach that needed to be squished immediately. She couldn’t figure out which one was worse. So instead of facing ridicule and losing her friends, she kept her mouth shut and ignored the aching of her heart.
Skidding to a halt when she reached the rendezvous point, she grinned at Aylik and looked around. “Hey Aylik!” She greeted, tail twitching excitedly. “Where’s Tas? Did your mom need to talk to her or something?”
His memory flashed back to his littermate's still sleeping form, contentedly unaware as to the meeting that was set to take place, where she was supposedly supposed to be. It was ironic really, that of the three, Tasman was perhaps the one who might have known about the secrets her brother and best friend were keeping to themselves, the one cat who could unite them entirely absent. In an instant, Aylik snapped back to the present, blinking at the comments from the she-cat, his heart seizing at the thought of what came next, urging him to turn and run from her presence. This too, was irony at it's finest, a royal bolting from the sight of a commoner who, by all rights, should be bowing to him, not treating him even remotely as an equal. The thought bothered him, less for reasons of etiquette, and more so because of his worry of his parents' reaction to the news, should this turn out to be anything more than him embarrassing himself. They would not think highly of him for this, would think she only accepted in order to gain power for herself. And, while that thought had crossed his mind, he'd almost immediately dismissed it. Taikatalvi wasn't like that.
Gilded eyes focusing on the feline before him, eagerly awaiting his answer, Aylik gave a half-smile, the expression bittersweet with an undertone of seriousness to it. Ah, of course, he'd almost forgotten. She would want to know where Tasman was. They hadn't ever really spent time alone, had they? This sight must be incredibly odd for her. "Our mother caught her trying to slip out, so it's just us today." The lie slipped effortlessly from his tongue, perfectly disappointed and hiding the thrumming of his heart he swore she could hear. "But that's okay. I wanted to talk to you about something." Aylik's words were vague, and even for a kitten, his expression gave nothing away, effortlessly neutral and composed as only he seemed capable of.
Nervousness settled in her stomach at his final words, her smile dropping at the corners. He seemed concerned about something and the anxiety rippling from his aura had her taking a step towards him, eyebrows creased in worry. “Yes?” Deep down she felt like she was on the verge of a panic attack. He had to be preparing to send her away. She knew she didn’t act accordingly with the E’Clair siblings but she never felt it necessary to; she was respectful in the presence of their parents, but with Tasman and Aylik... she could be herself. Was she under some illusion though? He had always been a bit more serious than his sister — heavy is the crown, she had always thought — but she’d chalked it up to the duty he felt towards his family. Had it actually been something to do with her? Had she posed a threat to the balance of their world by believing she belonged with them? Her heart ached suddenly and she clenched her jaw. He was going to tell her not to see them again. Tasman wasn’t coming. Did she even know? Maybe she did but she didn’t want to see her... but that didn’t seem like her best friend at all. She was so confused...
