Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Larkwing padded into camp, the sun beginning to rise. Another late night out was wearing on his body. He had hoped no one had been noticing his lack on duties and his random disappearances. The sleep deprived deputy stumbled over to the fresh kill pile. Should he take a small mouse? He hadnt even thought of bringing back anything to contribute. He began to feel that Burningstar had made a mistake making him deputy. He has clearly been slacking off. Perhaps he should try to catch something this morning. All of his clanmates were heading to their dens for a good sleep anyway. Hoping no one had paid much notice to him, he tried to exit the camp but he couldnt see straight. Exhaustion was trying to overcome him but the stubborn deputy wanted to make up for his slack. So therefore, he pressed on until he managed to reach the exit. Slipping through the barrier, he emerged out into the forest once again. He sniffed the air for any signs of prey. He pinpointed a squirrel and before long, he saw it searching for breakfast. Crouching, he stalked toward it. Because of his lack of sleep, he wasnt paying attention to where he was setting his paws and soon cracked a twig. The squirrel, startled, darted up the nearest tree. Larkwing launched after it but instead of following the squirrel upwards, he ran head first into the tree. He stood back up after laying a split moment on the ground. The forest spun and the squirrel above him mocked him with snickers. He sat down, his head spinning and throbbing. His dark secret was beginning to effect his life but was he strong enough to let it all go? He hung his head in shame and rubbed the spot that was sore.
Turbulentpaw had been out on his own gathering herbs, when he spotted Larkwing out hunting. It wasn't that odd of a sight, but when the deputy made such a mistake he couldn't help but notice. He walked over slowly taking in the sight of the tom, carefully assessing him
"You need to rest" he finally stated sitting down, his thin tail wrapping around his paws. He didn't really like ordering others around, much less the clan's deputy. However it was his job to keep the clan healthy and safe. He kept his voice calm without acusition. He was still learning to be a medicine cat, but he and Brightpaw were the only ones that NightClan had.
Larkwing let out a large yawn, "I know I do. But I have things I must take care of first." He stood up and his legs shook. The medicine cat apprentice was right. He needed rest but he still had to bring some prey back to camp with him.
"You just ran into a tree.... I think whatever it is that you need to do can wait" he leaned in closer and had to stand up on his back paws to reach the much larger cat's head with his own front paws. He ran his tiny paws over the area that had been impacted, searching for signs of more serious injuries. It seemed to just be scraped, but he had heard that such head injuries could cause unseen damage to the brain.
He finally released and set down and tilted his head to the side. The problem was, he wasn't really sure how to test for head injuries. He made a mental note to talk to his mentors about it, but for now he wasn't just going to leave him alone. "You need to take it easy, and if you won't listen to me I will go and get Burningstar" he added stubbornly.
Larkwing allowed the medicine cat apprentice examine him though he swayed on his paws from exhaustion. He felt as if he hadnt slept in days. When was the last time he had a good day's rest?
It was obvious that the deputy shouldn't be out here, as his eyes narrowed "Ok come with me. I'm going to have you rest in my den until you have recovered your strength" He turned offering his body for the much larger cat to lean upon. Turbulentpaw was much smaller than the deputy and wouldn't be able to bear his full weight, but he could at least offer him a little support.
"I don't know why you are so exhausted but you need to take better care of yourself" he chastized lightly without prying into the cat's personal life. "NightClan needs you to be at full strength. What if SunClan were to attack right now? Burningstar would need your support, the clan would need your leadership. If you don't take the time to rest, you won't be able to do your best for your clan"
The sleepy tom listened to Turbulentpaw's lecture. The apprentice was right. If Sunclan or Winterclan decided to attack them, he would be in no shape to defend his clan. "Your right, Turbulentpaw. I will do better to take care of myself." He wanted to take better care of himself but that meant he would have to stop sneaking out to see her which made his heart hurt. He didn't want that. He wanted to keep seeing her. But he also had a big responsibility to the clan.
The little tom lead the deputy back into the medicine cat den, and helped him down into the nest that he had prepared for patiants. He then left and brought back a mouse and laid it beside of him, before setteling into his own nest "go ahead and eat, and then take a long nap"
Turubulentpaw had to resisit the urge to roll his eyes at Larkwing. "And if you keep arguing with me and collapse, not only will you not contribute to the clan, but you will take away time from the other warriors that could be out there hunting" with a sigh, he turned and began examining the herbs that he and Brightpaw had begun to store. It was still pretty sparce, but he was starting to get the hang of it.
"I don't know what has made you so tired, and I'm not going to ask. But you are going to eat and rest" One eye slowly drifted back to the deputy to make sure that he was following orders
Larkwing sighed. He knew the medicine cat apprentice was right. Besides, who was he to argue with a medicine cat in training? Next to the actual leader, the medicine cat is the most important cat in the clan and usually the wisest. Turbulentpaw seemed to be pretty wise for an apprentice and Larkwing felt foolish to be so arguementive to him. He knew he was in no shape to hunt or perform any of his usual duties which made him feel useless but Turbulentpaw knew more about physical health than he did. However, someone important to him seemed to be trapped inside his mind. All he could think about was her but he was deputy of Nightclan and needed to keep up with his duties. "Turbulentpaw? Can I tell you something?" Was he really going to give away his secret? He kind of felt like he had to get it off his chest and perhaps the trainee could give him some advise.
"I suppose so" he replied, after all he wasn' really expecting any sort of secret. Many cats in the clan doubted his ability because of his age. He couldn't say that he blamed them. He had recieved very little training, but he had to keep telling himself that StarClan had choosen him for a reason.
He took a breath before he blurted out, "I've been seeing someone...Someone...that is not Nightclan..." He feared the medicine cat would be angry at him and possibly tell the others. But he needed to let it out.
Turbulentpaw blinked, that explained the exhaustion. Seeing someone outside of NightClan was not strictly forbidden, but that did mean that he would need to go through the blood brother ritual at some point if he wished to remain with her. "There isn't anything really wrong with that. You can always bring her into the clan, if you really love her"
The blood brother ritual wasn't anything to enter into lightly, but if she really meant that much to him they could be togather. "As long as you make sure to take care of yourself and don't slack on your duties that is"
"Well you have a decision to make then, you can't live with a paw in both worlds Larkwing" that much was true. Being deputy of NightClan meant that the clan would need his full attention. Sneaking off to see a she-cat could cause a lot of major problems in the future. What would the clan do if something happened to Burningstar and Larkwing was off with this she-cat?
"Perhaps if you were only a warrior, but you are the deputy of NightClan. You have duties and responsabilities here. It would be irresponsible of you to continue engaging in both. It isn't fair to the she-cat that you spend most of your time here, but neither is it fair to your clan to have a deputy with divided loyalties and attention."
