It took some looking and sniffing the air but after awhile Bonefang found a rabbit, a plump one by the looks of it's belly. He knew the larger ones were slower so maybe this one would be a good one for Lionesspaw's first hunt. After testing the air, he maneuvered himself into the right place for his charge. He knew he had to not only guard against his scent being borne to the prey but also that no sound reached those big ears. Once he got into position, he waved his tail at Lionesspaw to signal his pending charge.

Slowly and silently Bonefang slipped closer and closer toward the unsuspecting rabbit. Then all of a sudden he pounced with a loud yowl. "I'M GOING TO GET YOU RABBIT!!!" The shocked bunny jumped straight up and bolted right toward Lionesspaw's hiding place. Bonefang ran after the speedy prey driving it toward the apprentice.
Lionesspaw laid low waiting for the rabbit to get closer, before she leaped out and landed on it's tail, barely keeping a hold , before she grasped it's left hind leg. She grasped the rabbit by it's spine biting down, feeling it go limp in her mouth"Got it." She muffled out a purred with happiness, her mouth wrapped in fur.

"Great catch!" Bonefang meowed as he came running up. "And your first one too. Let's bury it here and see if we can find another one to take back to camp with it."

Lionesspaw hobbled over to a near by tree and dug an hole placing the rabbit inside and then covering it up. "Thank You!" she said dipping her head in gratitude. " I would love to try and catch another one to take back." She replied with her eyes bright and tail lashing back and forth with anticipation.

"Good," Bonefang meowed. "Here let me give you a few tips. First of all hunting rabbits is a bit different from hunting mice. As you probably already know, mice can feel you coming before they can see you." The older tom looked out across the meadow then looked back at Lionesspaw. "Rabbits, on the other paw, can hear you before they can see or smell you. Those big ears of theirs can hear a whisker drop on a bed of moss. So until you want them to hear you, you have to be as quiet as a passing shadow. Make sure you don't step on anything that'll make any noise and don't brush against leaves and things too."
Lionesspaw limped and quietly as she could crouched low to the ground, not enough to touch it and yet not too high, that she would be caught right off the bat. She twitched her nose focusing on the scent of rabbit. After a few minutes she scented one, and motioned Bonefang with her tail, towards the rabbit's hiding place.

Bonefang nodded his head indicating he got her message. He too scented the rabbit and was eager to make a catch of his own. Slowly he got into position and hid himself behind some tall grass and waited.
Lionesspaw slowly and carefully moved forward , making sure that her body was clear of any brambles, or limbs. She crept forward slowly and then gathered speed as she neared the rabbit. The rabbit scented her almost too late, but it took off towards Bonefang any ways, so lionesspaw drove it as hard as she could.

The familiar rush of excitement flooded through Bonefang's body. It was all he could do to wait for the right time to pounce. His tense muscles wanted nothing more than to spring forward but he had to hold them in check. He watched through the tall grass just until the right time ..... NOW! The senior warrior sprang forward with his front legs outstretched, claws glinting in the sun. He landed heavily on the warm, soft body and he dug his claws in to hold the rabbit fast. It was only the work of a moment until he bit it's throat and the rabbit died. As he stood over the dead rabbit, he felt the heady rush drain from his body leaving him tired and a little unsteady. "Great job flushing him out," he said to Lionesspaw.
The senior warrior smiled at the apprentice. "Despite your injuries I feel you're going to become a great warrior someday. Now let's collect your rabbit and head back to camp."

"You have such a good attitude. I know you will do well," Bonefang meowed before picking up his rabbit.
Unknown to either cat, a pair of wicked eyes watched the both of them. The owner of those eyes was well concealed in some tall grass downwind from the clan cats.
