After all this, the three apprentice whom had remained had been given new mentors. She herself, had chosen to mentor Rainpaw. The young apprentice showed great promise, and she knew without a doubt that she could mold the cat into a fine warrior. She had been waiting for Rainpaw to finish his breakfast, and was casually grooming her furs, and laying within the entrance of her den.

Rainpaw attempted to take his time eating so that he wouldn't feel bad later, but the anticipation gnawed at his belly. He was filled with all sorts of nerves and excitement. It had been a while since he could train and he hoped he remembered everything Bearheart had taught him. As he scarfed up the last bits of his squirrel, he felt a surge of energy almost like Breezepaw and Aspenpaw were cheering him on. He glanced up at the cloud-dotted sky and smiled, feeling peace. The young tom rose to his paws and made his way to Violetstar, giving a respectful nod in greeting. "Good morning, Violetstar." His voice was youthful, but filled with wisdom and strength that only comes from hardship.
“Good morning, Rainpaw.” She greeted him with her own head dip, a formality she was sure they would eventually outgrow. As the tortoiseshell feline gazed at her apprentice for a few seconds, she remembered what her apprenticeship had been like. Finally she pushed herself to a stand and flicked her tail. “Come. We have much to go over, now that training has resumed. We will start today with a simple walk and talk. I know it’s not the most exciting, but I need to know what you may have learned through the sickness. I imagine you have picked up some hunting skills along the way, as you were one of the cats who helped keep the others fed.” It was clear she had paid attention, and it was a sort of praise. The leader walked towards the stepping stones that led out of the camp and around the cascading water of the fall.

He felt his cheeks grow hot at her praise, but wore a small smile for a second. It was the least he could do for the clan that raised him. He learned quickly the importance of serving one another during rocky waters. A walk and talk sounded a bit relieving, honestly. There were not many days that he let himself relax and just walk, so this would be a good start. Rainpaw followed Violetstar carefully, making sure not to slip on any of the stones. "I think hunting is my favorite task, honestly." He commented, a bit more life returning to his voice as he began to grow more comfortable. Not to mention, the light mist from the waterfall was beginning to wake him up.
She placed her paws carefully, yet paid no attention where they were put. Muscle memory, as she had traveled this path for many moons, and knew it by heart. One could see faint paw prints, worn from the continuous cats crossing them. When she touched the earth, she began to speak once more, yet never breaking a stride. “If a cat can hunt, he can feed his clan and himself.” It was merely a comment, something to keep the conversation going. “Fishing is our normal prey. However, we must always be able to hunt the alternative. We may not be perfect at catching land animals, but it is a must, if the waters ever dry up or manage to freeze. Have you hunted land animals as well as the fish?”
