this thread takes place about two weeks previous to the current timeline
The Tsar sat in front of her nest. The den was particularly quiet, something that had become significantly more rare since giving birth. For the most part, now that her kittens were weaned, they stayed in the Harlow den. It was better for them to be with the rest of their family, cats who were better trained to teach and raise the next generation. She wasn't completely an absent mother, but she hadn't the time needed to accurately raise the kittens alone. It was times like this where the structure of the group, where family almost always came first, was advantageous. It meant that there were always blood to help.
Today, though, she had sent them to the family territory mostly because she needed to have a conversation with another cat, one that needed to be private. There was so much that had happened recently, and it was finally time that the two spoke about it. This was the best place to do it, her den. After all, a place where secrets were created seemed to be the best place in which secrets should be destroyed.
The orange cat thought about this for a moment, before hearing footsteps. "Springlockedgrave," she greeted, assuming that the shape who entered the dim den was going to be the one in which she summoned. "I appreciate you meeting with me."
Kerrigan had caught the scarred golden feline at a good time. Well, it wasn't really a good time, more of an extremely odd one. Springlockedgrave seemed calmer than usual, even for her best days, as though she'd settled something in the back of her mind, made some major decision that allowed her a moment of peace. Not just the uneasy state that most would consider to be an improvement either. Actual peace. Perhaps that should have caused some worry within BrookClan, or at least an extra moment of consideration as to why, but even if cats noticed, none said anything to her about it. "Well, you can't exactly ignore a call from the Tsar, of all cats." Springlockedgrave pointed out, though there was the slightest rise of her corner of her mouth in an extraordinarily rare smile that indicated she was likely teasing, however true the statement was.
There was a change in the air, and Springlockedgrave could feel it. Something was coming, outside of the decisions she'd made for herself, and this meeting almost felt like a catalyst, something incredibly important that would change both of them, for better or worse.
"You aren't the first person to tell me that," she meowed with a soft laugh. Almost each cat said something along those lines when Kerrigan gave her standard greeting. Perhaps, that meant that it was time to invest in a new one. It seemed pointless, though. After all, it was simply a formality, one that she seldom ever meant. However, this time was different. She was intrinsically thankful that Springlockedgrave met her. It wasn't that she didn't think that the other would, not exactly. It was more a relief to know that this, the tensions that had damaged their working relationship from the day she took power, would soon be over. Kerrigan had come to a period of her life were amends had become important. She attributed this to Glowstar; without the DayClan leader, it was improbable that the Tsar would ever learn to look outside herself. For better or for worse, her desire to amend the past was a vital part of her existence at this point. She wanted to tie up loose ends and move on, make sure her ducks were all in line before...
Kerrigan would have no concept of what before.
"I feel like it is about time that you and I have a conversation, Springlockedgrave. A real conversation about everything that has happened in the last twelve moons." Her voice sounded almost nervous at the idea, but she took a centering breath. "You and I both know that it is about time to clear the air."
"That doesn't really surprise me." She replied, shaking her head ever so slightly at her own unoriginality. The Vrachii sat herself in front of the Tsar, tail curling easily around her paws, golden gaze wandering around the den, almost as though this were the last time she'd see it. Yes, they had been needing to talk for a long while. Things had been tense between them, ever since Kerrigan became Tsar. Their viewpoints were vastly different, and that led to animosity between them, due to a great number of factors, not the least of them being what had happened with Shiva and Bluepaw. Despite the fact they'd never gotten along, Springlockedgrave found herself agreeing with the she-cat in front of her, for once.
"Indeed. We've spent far too long at each others' throats, and both BrookClan, and each of us, are worse for it." She answered, nodding slightly at the prospect, though she knew this conversation would not be easy for either of them. They had, thus far, had a tendency to be stubborn with each other, holding to their own views, and demonizing the other. Or at least, Springlockedgrave knew she'd done such a thing, and Kerrigan's want for this meeting seemed to imply a similar mindset.
Her tail flicked in affirmation of the she-cat's first response, amusement moving through hazel eyes. It quickly dropped, though. This was not a time for amusement. This was a time to clear the air, which was something the Tsar was not exactly comfortable with. She had never been good with conflict negotiating. The lengthy list of cats who had fallen at her claws was enough proof of that. Springlockedgrave was never going to be on the list of cats whos blood she personally felt; despite their animosity, she had decided long ago that the time to end the life of the Vrachii was never going to come. There would never be a point where these things became easier, at least not until they spoke, truly spoke to each other.
"I would like to apologize for my part in that," she meowed with a flick of her tail. "You were the last remnants of an old regime, the only thing that ever stopped me from having full control in the group. You were a threat and I treated you as one, instead of trying to understand you." It wasn't an in depth apology, nor did it cover all of the things that she neededto say, but it was at least a start.
It was ironic, in a way, that Springlockedgrave had fought tooth and nail against the Tsar to no repercussions other than her disdain and anger, for the most part, where the E'clairs had challenged one decision and it had resulted in the destruction of almost their entire lineage and stripping of their royal status. But now wasn't the time to continue old fights. They were here to settle them, and though the Vrachii had things she wasn't sure she'd ever forgive Kerrigan for, this was the time to bring all their grievances to the front and face them, to at least come to an understanding, if nothing else.
"I would like to apologize as well. I won't lie and say that I still largely disagree with many of your decisions, but I never even gave myself a chance to hear you out. I decided that you were against me from the start, and never even gave you a chance. Instead, I took every opportunity to argue and undermine, and disagree with you, even in situations that may have been irrelevant, or good for BrookClan, in the end." She wasn't innocent in all of this either, not by a long shot.
