Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Eternalstar moved when she spotted her target, fluidly moving from her sitting position to stride over to the warrior she had been waiting to spot leave the warriors den. It was still early, cats sleeping and kits not yet awakened from sleep to cause a ruckus. "Softpelt." The leader called, mismatched eyes kind as she approached her. "Sorry to bother you so early, I was wondering if you would take a walk with me?"
Softpelt blinked the fluffy white she cat cocking her head not quite recognizing the leader with bleary sleepy eyes. She blinked a few times to clear her vision when she nodded letting out a purr. "Oh of course Eternalstar, I was about to head out myself anyways." She said her voice friendly and warm.
"Perfect, at-least I know I'm not delaying you then, I would hate to inconvience one of my warriors." She brown and white tabby purred before she set off at a leisurely pace; in consideration to the fact that Softpelt was still waking up. She didn't want others thinking her cruel after all. It was a little ironic actually, how driven by paranoia and wary caution Eternalstar was but still managed to conceive herself as doing the right things.
Softpelt chuckled, "Its no bother Eternalstar. I mostly just try to see if i can catch some prey, if theyre as tired as i am when i first get up, theyre a little slower," she said as she walked beside the leader. The gentle fluffy she cat none the wiser of Eternalstar's intentions.
"Oh? Have you been having trouble hunting? Or adjusting?" Eternalstar asked curiously, though she was well aware that Softpelt was not her best warrior, would most likely never be considered her best warrior. She stopped herself from saying anymore, not wanting to rush into things and ruin it all.
“No more than ususual,” Softpelt said with a shrug. “I just go out early, see if I can catch anything, if not I gather things. Sometimes herbs i know we need. Sometimes some little things the kits like. I do miss teaching, but i’m quite content.” She said lightly assuming by ‘adjustment’ eternalstar was referring to Softpelt going from teacher back to warrior.
"Hm. I just worry, some have expressed concerns is all." She confided, mismatched eyes turning to pin Softpelt in her spot. "Why are you gathering herbs when Fawnheart should be utilizing Whitepaw for that?" It was mostly a rhetorical question the leader simply saying it outloud to express her own soft annoyance towards is. Adding it to her reasons to talk to Fawnheart about what Eternalstar saw as faults.
Softpelt cocked her head, “Concerns that I am doing what I can for my clan?” That brought back a niggling memory. The memory of Tarantulastar gathering the daylight warriors and kittypets and declaring them weak, and a useless burden on the clan. But she shrugged away the thought. Surely Eternalstar was not looking to retread his pawsteps. She waved her tail, “As for Fawnheart utilizing Whitepaw, well, I like to help is all. They’ve never responded to my efforts with anything but gratitude. Besides they can only do so much. Though if they asked me, I would not.” She shrugged her shoulders. “But, if you’re really concerned I will speak with them. Find another way to assist if there is a need. It’s no problem.”
Eternalstar nodded slowly, humming to herself as she turned her thoughts over. "Not concerns that you are doing all that you can for your clan. Just concerns on how your readjusting, I know I wasn't here during the time but I was told about Tarantulastar's treatment of you and staying here was probably hard. I can only assume there are some bad memories associated here now?" Her plans were evolving as Softpelt spoke trying to stay on top of it.
Softpelt blinked. "Oh sure, it was quite distressing when Tarantulastar killed Cookie and forced me and some of our warriors out. But Oreostar came back and took over and things went back to normal and all was happy. I like to think that though Tarantulastar was a truly awful cat, I can't allow the terrible things he did to color how I see SpringClan. He doesn't deserve such power over my life. He's gone, and that's all there is to it. He may have robbed me of my son, but I still have my daughter, and my happy memories of being with Birchshade, my time teaching the kits, and helping the clan truly outweigh such bad memories. I'll admit it was hard after I lost Birchshade, but after Tarantulastar took advantage of cats being uncertain, I knew I had to stay in SpringClan. Though now that I can't teach anymore, I would like to find another way to help the clan. Teaching was so fulfilling, and even when we were in captivity there was this young cat, a sweet young one, I think she was DayClan's medicine cat? I believe she was hard of hearing, she lit up when I started to teach her a few things. It was quite wonderful." Softpelt said with a purr. "And the kits loved my lessons... but kits don't tend to sit still, they liked my stories of history but only for so long. But I appreciated what I was able to pass on."
The fluffy white she cat seemed to have relaxed once more. She'd been a bit worried at first, but now it just seemed Eternalstar was concerned. There were a lot of cats still licking their wounds from their time in captivity. And she supposed in theory it could be comparable to Tarantulastar kicking her out. She did occasionally miss teaching Vixenpaw, she seemed like a sweet young cat in need of a friend. Softpelt would've liked to have more time to teach her other things. But she needed to be here in SpringClan. This was Birchshade's clan, this was Inksplash's clan, it was her clan. Being with the peaceful and friendly cats was where she belonged.
The tone Softpelt delivered the info in had Eternalstar blinking as she considered the warrior she had considered to be a weak link in her new Springclan. "I'm sorry to ask this then. But would you be willing to undertake special training. You're obviously devoted to Springclan but we still have those worrying, maybe those fears can be appeased if you and I show us taking a new initiative wither your warrior duties, or training I suppose."
She trailed off as she blinked softly, "I could ask Mongrel to take you under his wing? He's very advanced and knows a lot from his time as a rogue, perhaps he could help give you something that would finally stop all the naysayers. Because they obviously aren't convinced now and though I would love to try I don't think they would take my word either."
Softpelt blinked, "Who isn't convinced?" She asked looking bewildered, "It's honestly been no big secret that I am what I am," She said. "I wouldn't mind extra help, but I don't see why there'd be such concerns. Everyone's been fairly understanding and accepting of my willingness to help in whatever little ways I can to make up for my not so stellar warrior skills." She meowed.
Eternalstar wanted to sigh deeply, a little, or maybe a lot, dissapointed this hadn't gone her way. Still there was a chance to get the outcome she wanted. She would just have to encourage Mongr to push Softpelt to her limits and beyond. "I'll organize time for you and Mongrel to do some special training then. You'll have to miss some patrols ofcourse. As I think I'llallocate mornings to it so both of you have other time for duties in the day." Hopefully Softpelt would be so exhausted from morning training she would mKe mistakes during the day and begin to doubt herself.
Mongrel moved towards the warriors den, not looking forward to wasting his time but he would do as Eternalstar bid. While never having met Softpelt, the way the leader painted her was anything but flattering. "Softpelt?" He called curiously into the den, having not been able to find her around camp and wanting to check the den before heading off to look for her elsewhere or to start waiting until she returned.
A fluffy white she cat lifted her head from where she'd been straightening out her nest. "Oh! Yes?" She said coming out to him. Though her time as being a warrior full time for the past 3 seasons had made her lose some of her kittypet bulk, she was still very soft and fluffy looking, nothing like the lithe strong warriors of her clanmates.
"I'm Mongrel. Eternalstar mentioned she'd talked to you about extra training..." He said gruffly, looking away. The tom felt awkward, not normally one to speak. No he was the shadow that followed in Eternalstar's dark trail, hiding under her coattails. Scaring off those she wanted, stealing what she desired, and sending the messages she wanted sent. He was not a tom who... introduced himself, or made small talk. Nor was he used to such... softness. Softpelt, while now more a warrior than she probably had ever been still seemed to carry an air about her that spoke of a soft nature, the type to try and save the baby birds that fell from the nest.
(Is it sad that my kneejerk response is like 'i ship it' XP)
Softpelt dipped her head. "Its nice to meet you Mongrel. I think ive seen you around but I'm glad we can formally meet!" She purred. "And yes, Eternalstar said you were going to teach me. Well, I'm ready whenever you are." She said.
[ nah pretty normal. Mongrel is a softie at heart. I mean he casually and occasionally murders others but a true softie. ]
"Then let's head out to somewhere private in the territory, so there's no pressure on you at all." Mongrel spoke a little gruff as he started moving off, eager to escape her polite nature. He already missed being able to lurk in the shadows, but knew Eternalstar wanted him to take this seriously. "We'll start with hunting because it'll be less taxing, an then I'll evaluate where you are fighting wise with a mock fight."
(Would you like them to be a bit of a thing? Like Softpelt doesn't know what he's doing really, but she's sweet on him and falls for him. And since she's stubborn and doesn't wnat to leave even though she isn't improving when Mongrel tells her he was sent to set her up to fail, Softpelt is devastated but accepting. Maybe Eternalstar is growing annoyed that Softpelt isn't leaving easily like she wants nor is she improving to meet her standards and Mongrel doesn't want to actually hurt Softpelt he urges her to go. And maybe they have a secret relationship for a bit XP. Or it's one sided on Softpelt's part, and Mongrel realizing it's likely the only thing that'll get Softpelt to have a response that'll get her to leave, he decides to tell her simply he doesn't want her nor is she wanted in SpringClan and Softpelt's hurt because she thought though her progress was slow she was still starting to make progress)
Softpelt nodded "I appreciate that!" She said with a purr. "And I'll try my best, fair warning though, I do struggle a bit with hunting. I'm great with birds... But squirrels, rabbits and mice, those are a bit of a struggle." She said.
