Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Winter sighed. She'd spent all day learning about SunClan and their customs. While this clan was still very strange to her, she was beginning to adopt their odd ways for her kits if nothing else. Both Frostkit and Snowkit had been adopted into the clan without question and she was grateful for that. She was still seen as an outsider though and that meant she was not treated the best. She was looked down upon and had restricted movement within the clan. She had settled down with a small mouse to eat for the evening. She was honestly afraid to take more since there was a chance she would be accused of taking more than her fair share. Of course she'd already been informed that she would have to change her more timid nature if she was going to stay in SunClan, but that was easier said than done.
It was hard not to notice the bright white form of Frost against the warm colors of SunClan's territory and members. Most of the cats here had warm toned pelts of browns and oranges, the result of selective breeding over many generations. Yet, Frost was not the only one that stood out within the clan. The Priestess Promised had also once been an outsider, her long gray pelt an oddity that many cats had gawked at upon her arrival. Even covered in the traditions warm colored paints that helped to hide her heritage, Littlebirds long thick fur still stood out. "That's not much of a meal" she commented as she rummaged through the fresh kill pile to find a meal for herself and Foxstar. Once she found a young rabbit, her golden gaze turned upon Frost. She smiled slightly "You have been growing thinner since you came to our clan, you need to take care of yourself"
Honestly, she was surprised to be addressed by the Priestess Promised at all. She had yet to be fully accepted into SunClan and many of the clan's warriors still didn't accept her. She didn't want to be rude though so she quickly dipped her head respectfully. "I try not to take much yet. I don't really contribute to SunClan yet so it only seems fair that the bigger choices of fresh kill are left for those that do." She tried to eat enough to feed Snowkit and Frostkit when she was allowed to spend time with her daughters, but her own wellbeing was hardly a concern for her at the moment.
"You are the mother of two kits, there is no better contribution to our clan" What she said was the truth. Kits were highly revered within the clan, and pregnant queens were showered with gifts and pampered. Kits were the future of the clan. It is kits that will continue to carry out the will of the Sun God, even after all the warriors are gone.
Even though Winter was only an initiate, she would become a full member of SunClan in time. "They need you to be strong, to help guide them on the path the Sun God has set out for them" She tilted her head and motioned for the queen to come join her. "Come, share a meal with me"
In truth, she had other motives for inviting the queen to share a meal with her. She had only recently found out that she two was pregnant. So far she had managed to keep it a secret, but it would become apparent soon enough. She was young, and there was a lot about pregnancy and childbirth that she did not yet understand. Perhaps Winter would be able to give her the answers that she sought, without revealing the truth.
She was honestly shocked. The Priestess Promised was inviting her to eat with her? Was this some sort of trap? Either way, it would be rude to refuse so she nodded her head and went to join her. When she did find her words, her voice was still very quiet. "Are you sure?" She was shocked that she was being so nice to her. It actually appeared like she was trying to encourage her. "I do hope I can help guide Frostkit and Snowkit down the right path. They are still so very young and I'm still learning SunClan's ways myself."
"I am sure that you will do a fine job of raising your kits. You have already made the important decision of having them raised in SunClan. This is sure to help you gain the Sun God's favor" she passed the prey to the she-cat with a smile. "Yes, I would be glad to have you join me. As the Priestess Promised, part of my duties is to get to know the members of my clan. You may only be an initiate, but how are you to learn our ways without a guide?" her words were kind and genuine. "I to was once a stranger here. It is difficult to learn the intricacies of SunClan, and that was with Foxstar guiding my paws. However, the Sun God will see into your soul, and know your true intentions. As long as your heart longs to be a true member of SunClan, he will not deny you"
"I've done my best to learn what I can about SunClan. Foxstar was kind enough to let us stay here so the least I can do is learn as much as I can about SunClan's ways and try to adapt. My kits will grow up knowing this life so I want to know it as well." She could only hope that her conviction was enough to convince the Sun God that she could be a proper member of SunClan. She wasn't sure what would happen if she was denied, but she didn't think she would be able to take her daughters if she was forced to leave. "I really worry about Frostkit though...Whoever trains her when she becomes an apprentice will need to be diligent. She can be quite stubborn at times to the point of arguing with the other kits." Sometimes she couldn't help but to wish she would be more like Snowkit who tried to get along with the other kits to a certain point.
"I know that Foxstar will pick a wonderful mentor for Frostkit. Many members of our clan can be stubborn, she is not the first and she will not be the last" Littlebird smiled reassuringly. The she-cat took a bite and chewed slowly. "Though I know you can not help but worry about your children. You would not be a good mother if you didn't..."
She paused, wanting to ask a question but not knowing if it would be approrpriate. After all she was the priestess promised, and Winter was only an initiate. "I can only imagine how hard it is being a single mother... What is it like?" She herself would soon be in a similar position, although she did have someone who would be stepping in to act as their father. Her biggest fear being, that she was making the wrong choice.
Winter was honestly a bit shocked by Littlebird's question, but she did take a few moments to think it over before she responded. "It is not how I expected things to turn out honestly. I suppose no one expects to end up this way but...I do know that Snowkit and Frostkit need me. It can be difficult at times, but their smiles make everything worthwhile. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes, but all I can do is try to do what I believe is best for them so that they can grow up to have a better life than I've had." She wasn't sure if that would answer her question or not, but it was the best answer she could give. She loved her daughters after all and if it was for them, she would do just about anything.
She understood that. Her father had always placed their family over all else, even doing terrible things. In the end his twisted ways had brought an end to the very thing he had hoped to protect. She was the last of her line, and she had a duty to pass on her genetics.
She wondered what she would think of her own kits. While she had always wanted them, they had brought along a lot trouble. She was almost constantly sick, and if anyone found out about who their father was she could start a war.
"The two of them seem to be settling in well, and SunClan will make sure that they are well cared for... Have you ever regretted bringing them here?"
Winter shook her head. "I haven't regretted it for a moment. I don't get to spend as much time with them as I would like, but they are being cared for and raised to be strong warriors. I was never taught to fight honestly. It was something I had to learn coming here. I wouldn't have been able to defend them on my own. Now they have an entire clan to protect them and in time, teach them to protect themselves and others." She glanced over at the two of them. Frostkit was trying to convince Snowkit to try a piece of squirrel. The stubborn little she cat had only wanted to eat mice up until this point. Winter just shook her head and turned her attention back to Littlebird. "Kits will make you do things, you never would have imagined doing before honestly."
"Perhaps you were never taught to fight, but you have a strength that many lack. A strength of the soul, the resolve to protect those that mean the most to you. I admire that" it was honest praise, of a she-cat who had went through a lot in order to protect her two kits. She doubted Frostkit and Snowkit knew it yet, but they were lucky to have such a devoted mother.
She had taken her own mother for granted, until that fateful day that she had given her life to protect her. "I only hope that when they day arrives for me to have kits of my own, that I will be able to have that same strength" she often worried about her own ability to be a mother. She was raised in a precarious situation, by two cats who had been more worried about politics than the effect it had upon her. In WinterClan, there had not been many examples of great parenting to observe, much less be apart of.
"It all changes the moment you see your little ones for the first time. You can't really understand it until you become a mother yourself, but...You would be willing to do anything for your kits, even give your life if the need arose. They are so tiny and defenseless so you become their protector even if you have to do it on your own." She was giving Littlebird a curious look now. "Do you have an interest in kits?"
"I guess you could say that. I am the Priestess Promised, and part of my duties will be to help bring new life into SunClan... I haven't got to be part of kitting yet" That much was true, although her true interest was a little more personal than that. She couldn't tell the she-cat that she was expecting just yet, not until those that were closest to her knew.
"Perhaps one day that Sun God will see fit to bless me with a litter of my own kits" her father had always wanted her to have kits one day, but her could have never imagined that she would end up here. She was supposed to be in winterclan, to be with a pure-blooded winterclan tom, to be among her ancestors. It was a lot to wrap her mind around.
