****This is PART 1 of the Traditionalists VS Non-Traditionalists plot! For more info, see this thread for the rundown of what is happening****
Lord Borealis had made it clear that he approved of her. She wouldn't have received her lives if not. However, she had heard nothing from the god since Chaostheory's departure except for this slight tugging at a new revelation to bring to Winterclan. It was brought up during her ceremonies but it wasn't clear to her if Lord Borealis had approved of it or not. But wouldn't he had to have if she was still Sovereign? Those questions swarmed her thoughts as she made her way back to the camp that had become more of a home to her than her original one.
Tuskblood, recently renamed to Tuskstar with the receiving of her lives, strode into the camp confidently. The news she was about to deliver was sure to cause some... chaos. She hoped the clan would take it better than she expected, but she was braced for pushback. What would she do if they rejected the change completely? Winterclan had become everything to her. That is why it was important that her appearance did not waver as she made her way up to the ledge where the announcements would take place. She could not let them see her doubts or they may lose faith in her. Her sharp green eyes raked across the camp and she let out the breath she had been holding in. "Winterclan, it is time to gather for a clan meeting! I have some important news to give you." She yowled across the camp, her deep voice booming against the rocks.
As the clan began to gather, she sat down and curled her tail around her paws. It was important for her to look as calm as possible but she could feel the nervousness pecking at her insides. She let her gaze travel over her staff as they were among the first to gather. How would Blizzardyrefuge or Fallingpaw take the news, given that they were purebloods? Goblinpaw she knew would stick by her side. And how about the rest of the clan? She lifted her eyes back up to take in the gathering group.
(Announcement will be made once some of the clan has gathered <3 If there aren't many people that respond then we'll just pretend they're all there haha)

Fallingpaw stuck his head out of the medicine den as he heard the new leaders call. He hadn't even realized she had come back from receiving her lives... He sighed, dragging himself from the den to where he could sit calmly at the edge of the crowd, wondering what this meeting could possibly be about. His icy eyes fixated on the she-cat, waiting for her to speak.

Mistletoeberry waked up from the yowl of Tuskstar calling all the clan, she get up inmeddiatly with Silentkit behind her, she watched the camp all of them were gathering around Tuskstar but with her kits she didn't want to get that close so she sat outside the nursery where she could hear everything that the sovereign needed to say just hoping that Cascadekit wouldn't wake up too, she had enough with Silentkit who was more calm to Cascadekit who was more energetic to stay playing around in the middle of the gathering
Gardenbee heard the yowl of Tuskstar but she didn't wanted to wake up, she had enough with Canyonriver in the frozen lake to stay and hear all the things that Tuskstar needed to say because she was going to fall asleep in the middle of the gathering so she prefered to stay sleeping in the warriors den, surely s one of her siblings would tell her later, everybody would understand her if they where in her situation, right?

Juniperkit's curiosity struck her as she heard the WinterClan leader speak. The kit quickly scrambled outside to see what Tuskstar was about to say. On her way she began to theorize as to what Tuskstar would say, 'maybe she's making me an apprentice!' She thought, 'No, still too early..' Juniperkit sighed. She finally sat down near some warriors as she tried to catch a glimpse of the leader.
Goblinpaw followed her mentor out of the medical den. She briefly wondered if she should go find her brothers and her parents and sit by them or stay put. She decided to stay close to Fallingpaw. Her paws rooted in the ground she quickly stood a seat by the Warlock. She looked in Tuskstar’s direction wondering what the announcement was.

Sinkingsaturn sat towards the back, her icy blue gaze directed towards the new leader. Empires rose and fell; she was no stranger to a new leader, having seen many since her mother's death. She found herself tucking her paws underneath her, tail wrapped tightly around herself. As much as she didn't feel much for the change of seasons within a clan, she had gotten close to Indigostar once; it was a shame to see her gone so soon.
Still, she wouldn't dismiss Tuskstar, despite not knowing a single thing about the other cat. Surely anyone who took the mantle deserved a bit of praise, if not for their wisdom or charisma, then surely for their bravery. An announcement at the start of their leadership...Sinkingsaturn was curious about it all.
Prepared for the worst, Hiddenchalice slunk from her den to the left flank of Tuskstar, eyes blinking as she attempted to push away her thoughts and become open to receiving news. Something like dread pinpricked at her underbelly, and to keep from shivering she licked her nose and assumed a stoic pout. Surveying her clan mates briefly to assuage the intuitive dread did nothing for her. For days, the mist of doubt had been slowly rolling in like a fog. Whatever Tuskstar was about to speak on, Hiddenchalice felt like it dwelled on a jagged precipice. In silence, she stared ahead, her leader in her periphery.
Adjusting to life back in WinterClan was odd. It wasn't that it was either easy or difficult, but Blizzardyrefuge had been absent for so long, and being back home somehow felt both comforting and foreign. Things had definitely changed since he had gotten lost soon after his sister became the leader of the clan, and he was still learning the new ways of life here. But, even so, he was doing well. The familiar scent of the mountain did wonders to calm him, and despite being so different from what he remembered, it still felt like he belonged here.
At the sound of Tuskstar's voice, the grey tabby limped his way out to hear her out.

Waywardpass padded slowly behind Juniperkit, Ravenkit and Merrykit tumbling at his paws excitedly as he sat down next to her. His soft blue gaze rose to meet the sovereign's for a second. He was curious about what she had to announce so soon. He peered around at the staff but it looked like they were just as clueless as he was.
Lakeshore yawned from where he sat just outside of the warrior's den. It was annoying when he was taken from his nap, but even more annoying when the reason was so cryptic. Did it really concern the whole clan?
Tuskstar met eyes with each of her staff and gave a nod. She took another deep breath as most of the clan was gathered and let it out slowly, closing her eyes for just a moment to center herself. Her jaw twitched slightly as the silence grew heavy like a blanket of fog over the group and she reopened her eyes, which were now full of intensity and determination. "Cats of Winterclan. I know many of you are aware that with each new sovereign, there is a season of change. I hope you will take this news with an open heart to your fellow clanmates. For too long, our members have been recognized by the blood that runs through their bodies and not the strength of their heart. We have seen families rise and fall on the shoulders of many cats that work hard to keep our clan fed and cared for with little recognition for their efforts. I have heard the uncertainty of some regarding my own role in this group as a cat who was not born here or even raised here. However, I was born in these harsh mountains and I would like to think that Indigostar saw the potential in me when choosing me as the future sovereign of our home. It has been made clear to me by my ancestors, Winterclan's ancestors, and the cats that make up this strong clan that bloodlines do not define your worth." She looked individually at each cat, no matter their bloodlines, as she spoke. "We are a family. All of us, together. For this reason, we are no longer following the customs of the caste system. Who or where we were born no longer separates us. It is by the hardiness of our paws, diligent work, and the strength of our hearts that define us now. The more dedicated to building this clan to greater heights you are, and not by physical strength alone, then the higher your status. That is all." At her last words, she dipped her head and stepped back, letting the silence linger as they processed. She knew it would not last long.

Having spent most of her kithood outside of Winterclan, Vela — Elmpaw, now, she supposed, though that name was mostly used for formalities — often found herself confused by Winterclan affairs, but that never dissuaded her interest in them, the curiosity about their lives that only an outsider would possess, and despite the fact that she was supposed to be one of them now, she still felt like one, as if she was looking in through a pane of foggy glass, the shapes inside unclear but still visible, the words muted. When Wintrystar was replaced by a new leader, she could hardly feel a difference.
When Tuskstar — what a strange name, she had mused, less judgmental and more vaguely curious — called a meeting, Vela didn't move from where she sat at the entrance of the students' den, though her large, wide ears twisted forward, flicking with interest. She never said her mind, she hardly said anything at all because she had always been told it didn't matter what she though; her father's words were words she lived by, would die by, and so she vowed to stay silent, instead. But she was always listening, a constant, unnoticed presence.
For this reason, we are no longer following the customs of the caste system.
The words meant nothing to Vela herself, but she could feel the weight of them that rested on the shoulders of others. She knew of the caste system, only enough to understand that she was low down on in, inferior, due to her nature. Often, she could feel the judgmental, distasteful eyes of cats from the castes above her, the whispered words about her blood or her place in the clan, and it never truly bothered her, not really, because she never considered herself one of them, not enough to feel excluded. Though, she supposed, it was a good thing — having been raised around stark nepotism she understood what it was like to be overlooked in favour of someone better, even if it didn't feel like they had earned it.

Juniperkit looked around her to see other's reactions. With her being so young, Juniperkit never really grew up in the caste system, so this information didn't really mean much to her. She quickly lost interest in the topic at hand and looked to her two siblings for something else to do, "I'm bored, wanna do something else?" She whispered to Ravenkit and Merrykit.

The words of Tuskstar light on in Mistletoeberry a rage that she never felt even when her mate abandon her, that mean that her kits would have the same opportunities as a snow kitty? She had bees on her brain or what?! It was their tradition and only because we have a sovereign it didn't change all of all culture the code we have been following through years! And she was true all sovereign becomes a new era with different things but she was proposing change all the clan because she's not a Seraph?
"You can't do that! It would be like if we change everything about us, you have bees in your brain!" Mistletoeberry shouted, she wasn't the type of cats who liked to scream from everything but it was the time for doing that, she would even fight against the leader if Tuskstar was really planning to make that, they had the worst leaf-bare she could imagine lossing two leaders to come Tuskstar and broke everything that Winterclan became.
Silentkit was the first time he saw his mother like that, did the caste system mean that much to her? He knew that his mother usually told him that he was so lucky to be born as a Seraph but that important was? It was things from adults even if he only have one moon to become an apprentice he knew that he wasn't going to understand everything that they were talking so the best option was going back to the nursery with his sister and trying to sleep but if his mother stay screaming to the leader like that it would be a bit difficult.
Gardenbee heard the leader saying that the caste system would disppear, she wasn't disaggre at all, the mountain clans have the same opportunitys for all cats, it was Winterclan the only one that have that rare system, she wouldn't be affected by it, but some other cats...well...Gardenbee was thinking in it when Mistletoeberry shouted that words, she was a Seraph cat who would be beneficial for her to the system caste to stay but how is she going to make that, the sovereign and surely the heir would agree and Mistletoeberry was only a mother but if she rejected and went away from the clan, we wouldn't have two strong warriors but if Silentkit and Cascadekit thinked equaly like Mistletoeberry?.
Gardenbee came out from the warriors den decided of suporting Tuskstar but when she saw so many cats he knew she would mess it up and waited for other cat to talk or the entire clan talk to say something loud and know that someone talked but don't know who it was.
Abyssalpaw entered the clan with a big rabbit in his mouth, he was proud of it and maked a few steps in the clan and he saw all the clan gathering together and he let his prey and walked near to hear something when the leader started his speech...The caste system? He didn't cared that much about it if it stays or not he could make the same as everyday, he could care of it in a future but now he would let the staff talk about it or senior warriors.
Cocoawoods was apart of the Tarnish Caste. The she-cat normally kept to herself and had been staring at Tuskstar thinking this development was rather interesting. She heard Mistletoeberry shout her distain behind her. Cocoawood’s head whipped around and she glared at the queen. “Ahh yes the one who has an issue with this is a Seraph.” She commented caring very little if it offended the queen or not.

Frostbite sat silently listening to Tuskstar's message. There was no apparent reaction at first to this stunning announcement that any cay could tell by just looking at him. He was as still as the cold boulders that were nearby. It wasn't because he didn't hear or understand his new leader, it was from the shock of what he heard. This wasn't right! Not at all! He was born a Seraph and that meant something!
Slowly as he processed what was said, his facial features began to proclaim his thoughts. His eyes began to narrow and his lips drew back to expose his fangs. Then he rose to his feet with his fur bushed out around his neck and his tail lashed behind him. "This can't possibly be right!" he hissed. "The way things have been run for seasons upon end is the right way for WinterClan. Why try to upset that natural order?"
Goblinpaw sat uncomfortably in her seat next to her mentor. She knew her mentor Fallingpaw was in a much higher caste level then she was. She had been lucky to crawl her way out of the snow kitty caste and manage to make it to the tarnished caste. The young she-cat cast a glance at her mentor. She wondered what was going through his head right about now. She slightly flinched hearing her clanmates protest against the dissolving of the caste system.
The moment that voices had begun to raise, Blizzardyrefuge took a few steps closer to Tuskstar, preparing himself for if things were to go severely wrong, despite the shock that was quietly evident on his face. Perhaps others were expecting him to join in on the yelling and arguing, and maybe some already had it set in their mind on which side he would take. He knew that others believed he was a pureblood, like the rest of the Seraphs. As a Seraph, he had much to lose with the abolishment of the caste system, unlike the lower caste levels who would only benefit from this.
Perhaps, he would have acted exactly like how his clanmates were if he had never left WinterClan. Their entire lives had been defined by these titles, after all, so it was no surprise that they had more severe reactions. Blizzardyrefuge, on the other paw, had only recently come back to WinterClan, and so he had little attachment to the caste system. His green eyes searched out the gaze of Tuskstar, and he tilted his head ever so slightly. A silent question that he had no idea if she would be able to read. Are you alright with this?

Sinkingsaturn blinked owlishly at the announcement. She didn't know what to think at all. She was a Seraph class of course, daughter to a former leader, Frozenstar, but even so, the caste system had put her in an uncomfortable position. Arranged marriages were something that had plagued her too, her family having pledged her to a cat she barely knew, one in a lower caste than hers.
Where was this when I was getting married? she thought with a snort, before narrowing her eyes at Tuskstar. Surely she must've known it was a bad idea? She wasn't as fond a supporter as the others of her caste of the system they were in, but she knew the value of it, and she understood one fundamental thing.
Cats didn't like change.
Her mother had known, she had crawled through the shadows, clawing her way to life, using whatever it took to survive out in the wilds, and even as she stood upon the rock Tuskstar stood on now, there had been murmurs, voices under the current that spoke of how an outsider could never truly know WinterClan.
Her lips twitched in a faint amusement. Tuskstar was bold, certainly. She had never seen a cat who courted their own destruction with such ease.
Meadowbloom had... really, no idea how she felt about the caste system anymore. If she had been told this a few moons ago, her opinion would probably be much stronger, but at the moment she was too distracted to truly feel upset by this. Her mother was the daughter of a former leader, and as such Meadowbloom herself was part of the Seraph caste, though the she-cat would very much love to throw away anything having to do with Edelweissbloom. Perhaps, then, this was such a chance.
She was shaken out of her thoughts when one of the cats she was near stood up and hissed. Snapping her blue gaze to Frostbite, she gave a wry grin. "But why shouldn't we? Is there a reason that those who work hard shouldn't be rewarded, when others are celebrated just for who their parents are?" Oh, if she could, she would have loved to see the look on her mother's face at this news.

Waywardpass narrowed his eyes as the commotion broke out. Tuskstar certainly was bold just throwing that on the clan, but he guessed it was the only way to rip the moss off, per say. "I personally agree that cats should be rewarded for their work. I've known many a Seraph to laze about all day long and get special treatment. Why should I have to be looked down on for my lack of parents status? It's not like cats choose who they are born to, but they do choose who they are loyal to." He meowed, trying to make his usual soft-spoken voice heard above the chaos while still keeping calm.
Tuskstar returned Blizzardyrefuge's gaze with a half-smile. There was a sadness in her expression, yet a look that said she knew this was bound to happen. "I will hear you out as much as anyone else here." She spoke softly to the heir before turning her attention back to the clan. She made no effort to stop the commotion. Until it got out of paw, she was willing to hear them.
