Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Louie fell from the log with a crash, landing squarely on his right side in the ferns below. After a long exhale, the tiny tom scrambled to his feet again, his amber eyes peering around at the wildflowers and the green branches that shifted in the breeze. Sure is pretty out here. The sight put him in a better mood, and he started off again, seeking that fabled group his uncle had spoken about and rehearsing his line over and over in his head. Surely he wouldn't mess it up if he practiced, right?
Having grown up in his family's little territory, it didn't take long to tell he'd crossed some kind of border, as the scents changed around him. Louie pushed forward, ears perked up in anticipation, waiting to see when he'd stumble across someone.

There were a few good places in the territory to find sage, but none as available as the few houses on the edge of SummerClan's territory. The humans absolutely adored the herb, after all, and a couple of leaves wouldn't go amiss. Not to mention, they took such good care of their plants, surely it wouldn't matter to them that a few from their garden went missing... Sunveins found her way towards the edge of SummerClan's meadows, when she picked up a scent.
Hm, strange. She didn't recognize it; was it a rogue? She knew it wasn't wise to go on her own; she was a medicine cat after all, but she had trained long enough as a warrior. Following the trail, she found herself face to face with...he barely looked old enough to be out exploring.
"Hello," she greeted tentatively, peering at the other cat, "are you...lost?"
Louie had found himself distracted by a passing bumblebee, tumbling after it in a fashion that revealed his kithood, when the other cat found him. Shoot! He was supposed to make a good impression! The white and brown kit stood up straight, his ears flushing with warmth. "I s-seek the clan of s-summer!" He declared loudly, his voice catching on his words as it always did. At least the words sounded grown-up, right?
Then he realized that he was shouting at the nice lady, and he slumped slightly, his voice dropping to little more than a whisper. "My name is L-Louie and I wanted to join."

Sunveins' large hazel eyes only blinked in return, before she pursed her lips together, trying to stifle the giggle that threatened to escape. Oh starclan, this kit was so cute. She couldn't imagine why he was out here on his own; how old was he? "Louie, right?" she asked kindly, her tone gentle and warm, "where did you come from, and how old are you?"
She was more concerned that a kit was stumbling around on his own than anything else.
Louie's eyes widened and sparkled slightly, his ears warming further at the lady's kind tone. "I'm almost f-five moons, miss. Lady. Ma'am. I'm from a b-big family in the farm l-lands. My uncle told me about the clan of s-summer, and I d-decided I wanted to join. He said that you guys were r-really nice, which must be true if you're p-p-part of the clan." Louie shuffled his paws as he spoke, his gaze darting between the nice lady and the ground.

Five moons?! She immediately felt a sense of protectiveness over this kit. Oh, he shouldn't be out here on his own! Sunveins didn't know why but she always had a soft spot for the younger cats, fiercely protective over all of them, and Louie wasn't any different. "I'm sure Foxstar would love to have you around," she purred, though her gaze was still full of concern, "are you sure your family's going to be okay that you left? We don't want to worry them too much, right?"
"They won't c-c-c-care," Louie said, his gaze fixating on the ground as his stutter worsened. His shoulders slumped further, and he twitched his whiskers. "I t-told them where I was going, and they just l-laughed and s-said they'd fill my nest full of spiders for when I c-came crawling back." Louie was aware that he was bullied the most out of his siblings, but he wasn't aware it was abnormal, so he wasn't too ashamed to spill his story to the nice lady.

Sympathy filled her gaze. It might've been unusual, but Sunveins had never quite experienced what others called 'bullying.' Her littermate had been quiet and pensive when they were little, and they had been thick as thieves, and when she had joined SummerClan as a kit, she had mostly hung around the warriors, who saw her curiosity and naivette as something cute rather than anything else.
"I'm Sunveins," she replied, trying to keep the sympathy from being too obvious in her voice, "and I'll bring you to SummerClan's camp, okay? What have you heard about us clan cats?" She knew there must've been stories–she had heard some herself when she was younger–but she was curious to what Louie had heard specifically.
Sunveins and Foxstar. It fit the narrative he'd heard about their names. Louie nodded enthusiastically at her offer and stood, following her as she moved off. "I only heard what my u-uncle told me," he told her. "H-he said he'd loved s-some Summerclan cat moons ago. He said that y-you all have long names and n-nice flowers and you l-live in a big group. Then he started talking about the c-cat he loved but my d-dad said it wasn't appropriate for ch-children. Do I need a long name to l-live with you?"

Sunveins was intrigued; she was a curious cat after all, and a bit of good gossip never went amiss. Still, the kit's wellbeing took priority for now; she'd surely ask about his uncle's story later. "Well," she hesitated, "most of us do." She didn't know a single SummerClan cat who didn't actually, but she recognized that other clans had cats without warrior names too. "I mean I can give you a name if you'd like," she suggested with a soft smile, "is there a name you'd like? If not...what about..."
She glanced around, though nothing stood of note. "How about...Fernkit?" Nah, that didn't seem to fit him, though he did smell like he had rolled in a bunch of ferns, "or....Sagekit?" No, that didn't fit him either, and her searching for sage and finding him had nothing to do with...him. She sighed, before hearing the familiar chirps of birds nearby. "Oh, how about Sparrowkit?"
Louie's eyes widened again at the last suggestion. "I love s-sparrows, miss Sunveins! They're my favorite. I-I'll be Sparrowkit. That way I can f-fit in with everyone else. 'Sides, L-Little L-Louie is what everyone at home called me, so I don't m-mind getting rid of it. What do you do in Summerclan? I'm pretty g-good at picking fleas out of nests. That was my j-job back home, 'cause the barn was f-full of them in the warm moons."

She smiled endearingly at the kit. Sparrowkit had a nice ring to it, and he did remind her of a sparrow really, small and precious and too cute really. "I'm a medicine cat," she explained, patting the young kit on the head with a paw as she gestured for him to follow her, "basically my job is to keep everyone safe and sound and to help cats when they're sick! You're still a kit so you won't have to worry about anything for now, but when you're older, you get to choose what you want to do...some cats watch after the camp and others go on adventures, and others tend to the gardens...you know, there's a lot of roles in SummerClan..."
"Wow!" Sparrowkit enthused, moving his small legs twice as fast to try to keep up with Sunveins. "T-that sounds just as great as my uncle said. D-do you need anyone to tend the b-butterflies? I had a bush outside m-my old house with lots of butterflies, a-and I brought them fresh flowers every day. Or m-maybe I could help in the gardens or h-hunt. I caught a m-mouse once, but it was really old."

She giggled. "No, probably not the butterflies," she replied sympathetically, "but we could always use cats to tend to the flowers." The garden keepers were absolutely wonderful, of course. They always helped with all of the herbs even if they preferred the flowers; SummerClan rarely lacked any herbs that they desperately needed, even in the winter. "Did you like hunting?" She slowed her own pace for the kit's benefit.
