Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
New-leaf was such a welcome, yet dirty and disgusting time in Fallclan. They experienced all the seasons, and this one was particularly muddy as all the snow that had once blanketed the land had begun to melt away. Small buds were beginning to form on the branches of the trees around the territory, creating random pops of color where there had recently been nothing but shades of gray.
Plumgaze observed all of this from where she sat, perched on a low hanging brank of a birch tree. Her silver striped tail was wrapped neatly around herself, and it occasionally flicked in time with the chickadee's and other birds that filled the air with song. It was sure to be a lovely day, as long as she could keep her sleek coat clean and free of the mud that seemed to cake half of the territory around her.
To the young apprentice that was running quite sloppily through the wet and muddy territory around him, it was a quite fine day indeed. It wasn't long at all he had been traipsing through FallClan's territory and it seemed he had no choice but to enjoy it compared to the solitary and frankly depressing life he had lived as a kit. This newfound freedom, to him, was unlike anything he'd experienced before.
Therefore he was barreling through thick sloppy mud without a care in the world, splattering it about without worrying about anyone or anything nearby, blind by his joy. Perhaps it was sullied a bit as he slipped right under where Plumgaze was perched and slid his face in the mud, coming up sputtering and pawing at his face which was obviously quite useless at they, too, were caked in mud.
The warrior had heard the apprentice coming long before she saw him, but until he appeared at the tree before her she couldn't seem to fathom who would be running through the muck that seemed to cake every inch of the territory at the moment. When he came to a skidding stop, the warrior let out a small chuckle, although her eyes held a bit of disgust at the state of him. However, she chalked it up to being an apprentice, free from the confines of the camp compared to the life of a kit.
"Quite the way to make an entrance," she called, her gray tail flicking in amusement as she sat up and wrapped it neatly around her paws.
The sound of a voice above drew his attention and he gazed upwards, feeling embarrassed that someone had seen his faceplant. Despite this he acted quite the opposite and pulled himself up, in no way looking regal the way he wanted to, not covered in mud. "Ah, yes. I just wanted to get your attention, that's all!" Hollowpaw pulled a paw up to give it a lick and stopped short, wrinkling his nose at the drying mud.
"What are you doing up there? Scared of mud?" He questioned with a jabbing chuckle; mischief clear in his eyes.
Plumgaze sat forward on her branch with a small shake of her head. "Scared of looking like a mud monster, is more like it," she chimed back, flicking her tail in his direction, indicating the mess that he currently was. "Does it taste alright?" She added with a giggle, not quite ready to make her way to the forest floor and all the mud it had to offer.
Hollowpaw attempted to shake excess mud from himself without much success and began smacking his mouth at her question, realizing just how gritty it was now. Not wanting to show how uncomfortable he was really getting by the mud, he said, "Well, I was thinking about having a swim anyway." Though it may be a bit cold.. He thought suddenly, cursing himself for not realizing sooner that maybe being covered in mud wasn't such a good idea.
"In any case," Hollowpaw seemed to snap back into his mischievous self, "You'll have to have one too!" As he spoke he scooped up a pawful of mud and slung it at Plumgaze, hoping his aim wasn't as clumsy as he seemed to be today.
She had just been about to object, her eyes growing wide at his words. When the ball of mud flung in her direction she nearly jumped right out of her fur. No matter what happened, she was bound to get it on her since she didn't have much mobility on the branch. With a small shriek she did her best, but the ball of mud collided with the tree branch and flung in all different directions, splattering her previously pristine pelt.
There was a moment of silence in which she processed what had happened, and Plumgaze couldn't do much of that with the shock of the cold mud on her fur. "You didn't," she said, her voice a tone of mock anger, but mostly amused disbelief.
The look on her face was probably the best part of it all. Hollowpaw had to keep himself from rolling on the ground with laughter as she attempted in vain to avoid the mud, in the end getting splattered regardless. It had been far too long since he'd had a good laugh, and when he finally caught up, he simply sat grinning like an idiot; there was still a bit of mischief gleaming in his eyes, some remnant perhaps, and also warmth there at bonding with a clanmate.
"Oh, come now, it's not so bad, is it?" He chuckled in response, tail tip twitching in amusement. "What's a bit of mud in light of the fun?" Admittedly, though, the mud that was now dry as could be was making Hollowpaw feel like a statue. He was itching to get it washed off.
Holding her balance, she shook out one paw at a time, sending flecks in all directions. Pursing her lips, she couldn't help but let the smallest of smirks slip through her façade. "Fun until you're still as a statue for the rest of your days," she chirped back, sliding down the trunk of the tree to land on a small patch of green grass.
"Would be a shame if you stayed an apprentice statue," she added, grinning with her own glint of mischief in her eyes. "The stream is near by, perhaps a swim?"
The actual thought of himself as a statue was quite comical in his head and he let out a chuckle at the thought. At the mention of a swim he was more than ready and tried to stretch his muscles, mud cracking and, that which hadn't clung to his fur falling onto the ground. "Way overdue, to be honest!" Hollowpaw agreed and began their trek to the nearby stream, eager to wash away the mud and have a bit of a swim.
Shaking her lithe form slightly, puffing up her pelt the smallest bit at the thought of getting wet, she couldn’t help but shake her head as she padded after the apprentice. Like most cats, Plumgaze didn’t exactly enjoy water - or swimming for that matter. Sure, she was going to wash the clinging flecks of mud from her pelt, but she surely wouldn’t indulge as Hollowpaw clearly planned to. “A small bath,” she mumbled, amusement still present in her gaze.
He had to admit that swimming wasn't his favorite thing to do, but once in awhile it felt freeing to indulge. The way the water flows through his fur always did bring a soothing feeling to Hollowpaw. Nevertheless, he understood her reluctance to get her fur wet. "Ah, yes, of course! Just a small bath. Of course." His words were a bit too casual, too nonchalant, it allowed the mischief to sneak its way through. He still had a bit of work to do before he got his lying all the way down, though he could be quite good at times, he had a harder time in lighthearted situations. "I mean, at least we're having fun though! And maybe on the way back we catch some prey, eh?"
The young warrior didn't seem to miss the hint of mischief that once again seemed to spark from the apprentice, but she was distracted by his words before she could dwell on the worry that it might have brought forth. A hunt did sound rather nice. With that in mind, she nodded in agreement as a few moments later they reached their destination. "Here we are," she meowed, almost to herself.
Hollowpaw could tell there was hesitance in the other cat as they approached the water. He himself had no intention of letting her see any hesitancy from him. "Well. No time to waste! I'm turning solid!" He laughed a bit manically and began awkwardly hobbling quickly towards the gurgling water, quite ready to get rid of the hard mud stuck in his fur. The splashing seemed to echo in the silence around them as he made his way in, freezing momentarily as it swirled around his legs. It was a bit chilly. Turning back with brows arched he said, "Come on in! The water is great!"
