Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Wildpaw?" Cypresspaw called out to her denmate, the slender grey and white she-cat bounded up to the apprentices' den, hoping to find Wildpaw there. Burningstar had assigned them to train together and Cypresspaw was eager to get started.
He wanted to sleep forever. Up until recently, he had been a prisoner of WinterClan, and he had returned to find almost his entire family gone. Not exactly the welcoming party he had expected. Burningstar had given him a bit of time, but he couldn't mope forever, and eventually he was assigned a new partner.
The white tom rose to his paws and stretched, wincing a bit at what a sorry physical state he was in after his captivity, then nodded to Cypresspaw. "Hey," he greeted, adopting his usual warm smile and stifling his inner complaints.
"Good morning!" she greeted her denmate cheerfully. "I figured we could go hunting near the stream today!" Cypresspaw suggested. She figured that after Wildpaw's captivity he still wasn't feeling up to any battle practice and the fresh kill pile was looking low so a good hunt was probably in order.
"That sounds excellent," he agreed, grateful that it sounded relaxing enough. The water would be cold if they stepped into it, but it would make for a refreshing drink, and maybe it would make him up a bit more. He slipped out of the den to join her. "Have you done much hunting training?"
"Sometimes I feel that's all I do!" She replied with a disappointed sigh. "But Burningstar is going to teach me some more advanced battle moves soon! I haven't had a good battle practice in a long while!" she chirped happily, trotting out into the forest. "What have you worked on in training?" she asked.
Wildpaw sighed sympathetically and shook his head. "I was just the same. I think she was worried I would get hurt, so Mom tried to keep me hunting as long as possible." Shiverstar had been a good mentor, and maybe it was just hindsight, but he felt she could've spent more time on battle training.
"Well maybe after we've successfully hunted we can practice some of the battle moves we do know, that way when we starting finally getting to practice with our mentors we won't be so rusty." She suggested.
"That's a good idea," Wildpaw agreed with a warm smile. Chuckling, he added, "I certainly use it. I know my whole patrol was captured by WinterClan, but I can't say I put up much of a fight!"
"I didn't have much of a chance to think about running. There were too many of them, and they knew the territory much better than we did. We were surrounded as soon as we started to fight," he told her.
"You know, after meeting them.... I don't either." Wildpaw laughed. "Maybe it was because I was a trespasser, but they weren't very friendly. Almost as cold as their snow!"
"And it's so odd that they hold prisoners, most normal Clan's don't generally do that, especially long term." Cypresspaw said, her ears caught the sound of the stream, they weren't far off, she hoped there'd be some good hunting there today.
"Turns out that's how they train their apprentices. Instead of a regular assessment, some of them have to fight prisoners to be promoted to a warrior. And the other prisoners are just valuable to hold, I suppose; leverage, like I was. Once Shiverstar left I wasn't much more than a waste of their prey, truth be told." Wildpaw smiled with a touch of sadness. His mother had been leader of the clan when he was captured, but shortly after she and his father had both disappeared, leaving him with nothing but questions.
Cypresspaw gave Wildpaw a sympathetic smile, she wasn't close to her family, but she couldn't imagine being close one day and then them just being gone the next. "Well at least you're back home now!" she meowed cheerfully. Once the stream came into view she scented the air, attempting to see what prey was around today. "Have you ever tried fishing?" she asked curiously.
A cat that saw the bright side of things; he could respect that. Wildpaw didn't like to dwell on negative feelings either, not when life was so short. "Fishing? Once." He grinned. "If you can call it fishing, I mostly just went swimming while fish swam past me."
