Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
with my wrist acting up, longer threads are becoming harder for me to sustain, so fair warning my responses will be a few sentences to a paragraph c:
Since Howlingheart had moved back into the garden keeper's den, the tom had become more reserved again. His life had once again fallen apart around him, or at least, it felt like that, with Rosethorn gone indefinitely. Things had just started to be a little less lonely, but once again, a melancholy had settled over him. Trying to nurse the growing hole in his chest, the tom had offered to collect some datura from the gardens. The flower only bloomed at night, and the tom was particularly restless at night, so he was relieved to have something to do. Rising to his paws, the large orange tom slipped out of camp and headed towards his destination.

It had been some time now since SummerClan regained their freedom from NightClan's oppression. Redflame took to sleeping right away at night. It just isn't right for cats to sleep the daylight hours away, she believed. Night time was made for sleeping. But for some reason she just couldn't stay asleep tonight. Tired of tossing and turning in her nest, the red furred warrior exited the den and looked around. All was quiet except she spotted some cat with orange fur slipping out of the camp.
Curiosity got the best of her. She wondered who was leaving this time of night, so she decided to follow. I might as well since I can't sleep anyway, she thought. Not knowing if the cat was on some secret business or just couldn't sleep like her, Redflame opted to follow quietly. It wasn't long until she recognized Howlingheart's scent and it led to the wildflower meadow. Well, that's not so suspicious! she thought. He is a Garden Keeper after all. Throwing discretion to the wind, she began to make noise as she walked so she wouldn't startle the tom. "Hello there! Couldn't sleep either?"
(ooc: Sorry to hear you're having troubles with your wrist. Short replies are fine. What I just typed in this post I consider long so feel free to make shorter ones. It's been a long time since we role played together!)
Howlingheart had become quite adept at hearing cats approach- it had something he had learned quickly during his time as acting medicine cat. He was relieved to have relinquished the role to his daughter, but the skill was handy, especially now that he was an instructor and apprentices regularly approached him. Still, he was surprised when he heard the footsteps - what had brought someone else out so late? With a bemused flick of his whiskers, the senior garden keeper smiled. "Ah," he meowed with a soft chuckle, "didn't see you there." He offered her a smile. "You know how it goes," he meowed with a casual shrug of his shoulders. "The night's the only time these bloom, and someone's gotta pick them. What brings you out at this time?"

"For some reason I woke up and just couldn't get back to sleep," Redflame meowed. "So I decided to come out for some fresh air." She didn't want to admit that she followed him to see what he was doing. That would be too embarrassing to let him know she wasn't very trusting of her clanmates. Well, really she was trusting. It was just that her curiosity got the best of her.
"I don't know a lot about flowers and stuff," she continued, changing the subject. "I thought they all bloomed during the day. What's that one called?" She remembered coming out to this meadow when she was an apprentice just before sunrise one morning. And when the sun came up, the whole field came alive with colors as the blooms slowly opened up to the sun. It's one of her favorite memories.

Howlingheart nodded along with a flick of his tail. "I can understand that," he meowed; he really could. Sometimes, the camp could be a little... cramped, especially at night when everyone was there. Getting a breath of fresh air was always a good way to spend a sleepless night. "I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't sleep, though. If it keeps up for more than a night, I'd recommend you see Sunveins. She could give you lavender, or she could surprise me," he then meowed with a tip of his head, a soft smile on his face.
"Most do," he then responded. "There are only a few of them that are nocturnal, and we don't use them very often since their only purpose is decoration." He moved a little closer to the plant, his motions gentle as if not to disturb it. "This one's called datura. See how big the white petals are? During the day unless they're picked, they retreat into themselves."

Coming closer to inspect the datura, Redflame leaned in to give it a sniff but she stayed back far enough so that she wouldn't touch it. "Smells funny," she mewed, wrinkling her nose. "But it is pretty. It's a shame it doesn't open up in the daytime like most others. It misses out on showing off it's beauty."
"As for sleeping," she continued, "It's rare when I can't sleep but I'll keep Sunveins in mind if it persists. Actually I don't mind too much unless I'm on the dawn patrol." She stretched by leaning backward with her front paws stretched out in front of her then stood up again. "Is there anything I can do to help you? I can carry plants back so you can gather twice as much."
He smiled at her response to the flower. "It's got a little more honey-suckle scent than other flowers, which attracts the moths," he explained with a nod. "The fuzzy little things seem to like the sweetness, and they're the primary pollinators of this breed." After finishing his explanation, the tom offered her a nod of agreement. "Yeah, there aren't very many cats to appreciate it, are there?" There was a hint of amusement in his voice. "Perhaps it's for the best - don't tell anyone else I said this, but some of our garden keeper apprentices are a little heavy-pawed when it comes to collecting flowers, so maybe opening up at night is their best defense against an overly excited seven moon old."
He nodded along as she spoke about her sleeping habits. It always relieved him slightly when things that could be a medical problem turned out not to be; he didn't like to think that any of his clanmates were suffering in any way. Perhaps that had been why he had accepted Sunstar's proposition to train Sunveins', he wanted to allieviate the suffering of his peers until his daughter was able to do the same.

Redflame thought about the things Howlingheart was telling her about the moths and over-anxious apprentices. She never really gave much thought to the purpose of moths. She just figured they were around for birds to eat. So they help the flowers too. Perhaps there was much more to life and the living things in her world. She nodded when he spoke of the young apprentices. It wouldn't do at all to spoil such rare and special flowers.
"When I was an apprentice I helped Graythorn pick herbs from time to time," she replied. Since he had no apprentice then, the responsibility to help the medicine cat was equally shared among the apprentices. "It was mostly leaves and a few roots. Um, lets see... I remember helping him gather borage, thyme, and ah... something else but I can't think of it's name."
He nodded along as she explained what she had been familiar with. "Fair enough," he commented after a while, before glancing down at the flower again. "These require a little more delicacy than traditional herbs do. Flowers can be a little... delicate," he explained. "But, if you have some experience, you probably know the basics. Try to get as much of the stem as possible - it helps carry them. Be careful not to crush the petals. Normal stuff," he explained, before he reached down and demonstrated. With great care, the tom clipped the stem with his teeth. He then gently placed the flower back to the earth, a smile on his face. "See, not too bad. All it requires is a little steadiness."

Redflame watched Howlingheart carefully as he nipped off the special flower. Don't crush the petals, be steady, keep plenty of the stem she thought feeling a little nervous all of a sudden. She didn't want to botch up this special job and look like a clumsy, novice apprentice in front of him.
"Um, how many do you want to take back to camp?" She watched how gently he set the flower down on the ground. "Do they have any healing qualities or are they just used for wreaths and such?"
