Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It'll be good for you to get back into things, Orchiddrop had told her the night before before licking her daughter's head. Of course, her mother was right. The longer she moped in this half-alive, half-dead state she'd found herself in, the longer it was going to take her to heal her wounds. It would be good to go back to normal, right? Eveninglily winced slightly, still not fully convinced that there was a normal anymore. Oh, come on, Eve, relax a bit, she chided herself. No one would want to join her on a her afternoon trip to her little bug garden if she was a walking rain cloud. She gave herself a quick shake, straightening out her shoulders for the first time in a month. She gave her chest a quick lick, before padding over to the closest cat. "Hi there," she meowed, her voice a little too cheery to be natural. It was only after she spoke that she realized exactly who she was talking to. Another cat who had been swept up in the madness. Her jaw clenched slightly. Did she really want to associate with her? Of course, Evening didn't blame her for falling to the silver tongued leader. She had no way to know that a simple slip would have led to any of this. But, she couldn't help but feel her stomach churn with uncertainty. Maybe she should..... No, Eve, that would just be rude. she decided after a moments pause, her gaze resolute with her decision.
"I was sort of hoping you weren't doing anything right now? If you are thats... absolutely chill, that's fine, but if you weren't, I was wondering if you would be willing to join me on a little adventure?" She hoped she wasn't being too awkward. She'd never been the most... socially adept cat, preferring to play pretend alone in the corner of the Nursery when she was young. And, of course, a brief stint as a prisoner certainly didn't help her social skills.
The grace of forgiveness, the new position, the distractions she had tried to give herself since, it hadn't worked the way she wanted it to. She thought that if she kept her mind busy, she wouldn't be able to think about, and by the time she could, it would all be a past issue, something unnoteworthy, something forgotten. It was loud, blaring background noise — the type that droned on so frequently one almost forgot about it, but it continued to get louder, and louder, and louder. Despite her cheery attitude, her eagerness, her friendliness, and her sudden, slight burst of confidence that came with the name change and new title, sometimes she faltered. Sometimes it was all she thought about, mostly well past when she was supposed to be asleep. The camp looked brand new, as if Nightclan had never been there at all, and yet the feelings remained.
The winter was melting away quickly, the ground grew damp with the disappearing snow, and new buds could be seen in the flower fields. It was growing warmer, it was growing happier. Hi there. Dawnflicker turned to the voice and offered a friendly smile, and then she saw it. The look. The slight hesitation, the stiffness, the realization. And then it was gone. She shifted, as if giving the she-cat room despite the open space.
"Busy? Nope — I love adventures." It was in the name. "You're. . ." she stared at her for a moment, judged her gloomy features, "Eveninglily? Or is it Eveningrose? Sorry," she added, tone light.
Eveninglily was always a bit too... transparent with her gaze. She'd never really had a reason to hide her emotions, well, at least until recently. She still wasn't good at it, and she hoped that the other cat didn't notice... too much. Her ear flicked at the recognition that she had made a slight error, although the smile stayed on her face.
"Eveninglily, right on your first guess," she meowed with a nod. "Although for a while there, the NightClan cats called me Uglyevening. I'm... glad that didn't stick." She let out a soft laugh; she was surprised at how genuine it sounded despite the soft trauma that laced her words. "And you're Dawnflicker, right? The newest... Adventurer? I'm still not entirely sure what the Coast Guard positions are," she admitted, a little bit of embarassment in her gaze.
She then turned her body towards the entrance of camp, motioning the other to follow. "The buggies like to have their lunch about now," she then explained their task, as if Dawnflicker would have ... any idea what that meant.
She half gave an exaggerated sigh of relief, half a cheer, "good. No, great," she faltered, "okay, not that last part. Sorry about … that." She remembered how some of the Nightclan cats would mockingly cheer in her direction, laughing at her indignation. She stopped spending much time in camp after that.
She pushed it away again, nodded her head, "yes! And that's fine — see, the Coast Guard is basically split into three teams that each do separate jobs. The Instructors — that's Ravenmask and Bubblechaser, they like clean up the beach and teach swimming and fishing, and they also live at the lighthouse — it's so cool," she got to her paws as she rambled, letting Eveninglily talk about the bugs (she loved the idea that she fed it, it was adorable, how come she didn't think of that?), and padded out alongside her, still talking.
"And then Weevil is apart of the Treasure Hunters, and they find cool things and locations. And then me and Hippostep get like, the coolest job, not that those aren't cool but. We're supposed to go on missions and stuff and hitch rides on twoleg boats. It's totally safe, don't worry, even though we haven't tried it yet. I'm Captain," she grinned, flaunting the title for just a moment. "It's all very cool and very new, so I don't blame you for not knowing what it's all about." She gave a look of understanding, somehow taking the lead on their expedition and leading them out of camp, into the trees.
