Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The air was getting chillier, but somehow Cosmickit had managed to find a nice, warm ray of light to lay in. Lazily, she reached out her paws, the tips of which barely tickled the water of the small stream in camp. She had been trying to watch for any sort of creature that lived in the water, but there was something about the gentle flow and warmth of the sun that just made her struggle to stay awake.
She had just begun dozing off once again, when she shook herself awake. Cautiously, the grey kit glanced around her. Whether she was looking to see if anyone had noticed her drifting off to sleep, or checking to make sure that it was safe to do so, she wasn't quite sure. Was sleeping what she wanted to do right now? It felt like a waste of time, like she could be doing something else, but there wasn't anything that she wanted to do.
Unbeknownst to the other young cat, Jovialkit had spotted Cosmickit several moments earlier and was trying hard to sneak up on her. He crouched low, out of her vision, and crept slowly towards her. Suddenly a fly flew past his nose and towards Cosmickit, and Jovialkit lost all sense of sneak. He clumsily skittered after the insect, leaping at it and missing by an embarrassing fox-length, sliding into the ground by Cosmickit and throwing up dirt on her.
Jovialkit scrambled up promptly, eyes wide. Instead of apologizing, the tom kit squeaked excitedly, "Did you see that? I almost had it!" It seemed he didn't think of the fact that he just sprayed dirt over the other kit, though it hadn't been intentional.
Of course, it had all happened the moment that Cosmickit had stopped looking around and had just perched her head atop her paws. The next thing that she knew, dirt had been thrown all over her, jolting her head back up right. Soft green eyes darted around momentarily, settling on Jovialkit once she had realized who was speaking to her. In truth, she hadn't seen anything. The grey kit didn't even know what Jovialkit was talking about, but it seemed like too much effort to explain that. Plus, she didn't want to upset him.
"Good job...?" she said instead, a small lilt towards the end of the words giving away the confusion she felt.
A smug grin settled among his maw at her words, completely oblivious to the confusion in her voice. "Thanks! I'm gonna be the best hunter." Jovialkit paused to clean some dirt from between his claws, then looked at Cosmickit as if really seeing her for the first time. He took note of the dirt scattered in her fur, and blurted, "Wow, you need a good washing!" The tom kit apparently didn't seem to think much before he spoke, or acted, for that matter.
It only took a few moments for Cosmickit to decide that this is a cat that she would never be able to keep up with. Whatever pace he was going at was far beyond her own, and she already found her mind spinning to catch up. "I bet.." she said, but Jovialkit had already moved on to her messy pelt, which sent a flush of embarrassment to her face. "I - uh-" She should tell him that this mess was his fault, but she couldn't seem to get the words out. So instead, she glanced at her pelt and feigned shock. "Oh! I guess I do. I wonder how that happened..."
"Yeah... So anyway.." Jovialkit tilted his head to the right and looked at her sideways. "I've never met you before. What's your name?" This time the tomkit seemed to wait for her to speak, instead of blubbering in excitement. The moment had come and gone, and instead he held an air of curiosity.
Cosmickit didn't know why she was surprised that the topic of her pelt's cleanliness had been dropped already, but what had shocked her even more was when Jovialkit actually looked at her. And waited after speaking. She had known this kit for all of, what, ten seconds? But she had already gotten the impression that he wasn't one to slow down - but it seemed he would just go at his own pace, no matter how fast.
"I'm Cosmickit," she replied, the attention on her actually making her slightly nervous. "I don't really leave the nursery a lot, so I'm easy to miss." Of course, when she did leave the nursery, she always tried to find the quietest place without anyone else around so she could sunbathe. It was no surprise that they had never met before.
