Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(Any amount of cats and members can join in at anytime! SpringClan, NightClan, Regime, and WinterClan cats that wish to help DayClan bury are welcome to join in as well ^-^)
DayClan had been finally freed themselves from SunClan after over two long moons, but they hadn't left without a body count. In DayClan territory the snow was high and the ground cold. While DayClan typically had a few cats that stood out as the clans grave diggers with the added on obstacles Glowstar had asked for volunteers to help bury the dead on DayClan land to ensure they were at peace and in their clan. Glowstar herself had dragged the bodies all the way to DayClan and was forced to leave them in the snow at the time to preserve them, but not it was time to put the brave cats to rest.
For the time being DayClan had made the Keepers Mansion their home after being snowed out. She waited at the gates of the mansion for the volunteers to show up. There would be a lot of digging and freezing paws, but she knew if Russetdawn and Solarflare were still alive that they would do the same thing for their fallen clanmates.
Windchaser had volunteered to help dig the graves of their fallen warriors. She padded up to Glowstar, her tail dragging and sorrow filled her green eyes.
It sadly wasn’t the first time Burningstar’s actions, or inaction as it might be in this case. Resulted in dead cats. After losing a life in the process of helping get DayClan and SpringClan free, Burningstar had actually felt better. She likened the life she’d lost as punishment for her mistakes. And it eased some of the guilt she felt. And this would help too. She padded over dipping her head to Glowstar and sitting down. She looked at the two fallen warriors. Their blood were mostly on SunClan’s paws, but Burningstar felt partially responsible. She could’ve maybe warned cats that Foxstar intended to kill those that failed... but it was too late now.
DayClan
Illuminatedpath joined Windchaser, he glanced over at the NightClan leader. He briefly wondered how she managed to juggle all these day trips when NightClan was primarily nocturnal. Shrugging the thought off he focused on the two bodies before them swallowing. Would Luna pass the initiation? Or would she wind up like these two... only she’d have already cut most ties with DayClan. Would she be mourned?
Glowstar dipped her head in greeting to Burningstar. She could still see her as the girl in the crowd among Shiverstar and the others. The one that ventured to walk new lands and the utter disarray she had left in her wake since then. But no one ever did anything without a little chaos, not even the peaceful. She couldn't speak for these two cats, but she had already forgiven Burningstar. She had thought of Burningstar as a friend, someone who wasn't afraid to turn against her and proved that when DayClan was caught. But she had been wrong, Burningstar came back more than anyone she knew would have. But mistakes were vital.
"You know, it's never the faces of my murdered kits or the friends that left too soon from this world that keep me awake at night. It's faces like Russetdawn and Solarflare. The cats I never spoke enough to. The ones I could feel slip past my paws like I had a chance to save them. Like was the only person in the world that could have saved them and I failed. Cats like that haunt me. The way I let them down, the way they looked at me as someone they could depend on and I wasn't there when they needed me. So now I look at the two of them and I realize I don't have enough to say and maybe that is my biggest guilt from all of this. That I never learned enough about them to have anything to say when this unfortunate day happened. I love you both, I'm so sorry I wasn't there to warn you, to save you."
She closed her eyes before opening them again and turning to those who came out, "I need you to dig them their graves, but my paws are still covered in frost bite and I cannot touch the snow for extensive periods of time without making things worse. But I would like to remain here all the same."
Burningstar dipped her head to Glowstar going up to her and brushing her muzzle against Glowstar letting her tail wrap around her. "I'm grateful for your forgiveness, and I'll learn from this. I won't let this happen again, not on my watch." She stressed.
Then she pulled away and nodded. "Right, as Windchaser said we can take care of this. Do you two want to start on one together and I'll start on one next to it?" Burningstar offered.
Illuminatedpath nodded shifting to stand by Windchaser pelt brushing hers. He was glad that despite all that had happened, she hadn't been stolen from him. That despite them dabbling with thoughts of going through initiation she was still here. Standing with him.
And though he grieved Russetdawn and Solarflare he thanked StarClan for sparing Windchaser.
Windchaser dipped her head to her leader, "I will always be here if you need me." She then nodded to Burningstar about starting. She looked to Illuminatedpath as he stood beside her. She burried her muzzle into his fur, breathing in his familiar scent "I'm glad your here." She pulled away from him and began to dig.
Illuninatedpath felt his pelt grow hot from her touch but he turned to brush his muzzle just barely against her before he turned to begin digging, it was hard as the ground was so frozen. But he worked at it until they got to where the dirt was less hardened, then the digging became easier.
Firstpaw and Lastpaw arrived together. They had been found almost directly after DayClan's return and had seen much of their Clanmates suffering. The two had scarcely been seen apart since then, and today seemed no exception. They wordlessly began digging near Illuminatedpath with but a nod at the others. Lastpaw kneaded the ground with her long front claws, softening the dirt, while her sister delicately scooped the soil out of the way when it built up.
When the holes were dug deep enough Glowstar got up and then sat back down again resisting the urge to help. Her gaze crept over to the bodies. She had once stood on a pile of bodies as if it were a freshkill pile, there had been a disconnect of seeing a person when looking at a body. They weren't there, they were empty husks. They were broken open and their souls gone, stripped away because the Sun God, a God she had considered reasonably chill and even grew to respect had taken away. Screw him, screw Foxstar, they were fake and yet apart of her mourned Foxstar. The girl she used to know that no one would ever have the pleasure of meeting because she was gone. She was gone when they both got their lives at moon creek, she hadn't seen her for a long time and only now was she missing her.
"Thank-you for helping everyone," Glowstar said gently, looking back at the keepers mansion behind her she wondered when leafbare would let up for them to move back, but likely not for another moon or so.
Windchaser sat back after finishing both the holes, her paws covered in dirt. She nodded to her leader before adding, "they were fine warriors and will be remembered for their bravery."
Glowstar limped over to Burningstar's side, "Burningstar, I... I want you to know that despite how it all started I'm glad we stayed close and we got through this. I think what haunts me most isn't the kills, but the people who watch. But you're not a watcher and I never admired you more."
