The meadow had quickly become her favorite place in all of Fallclan's territory. There was something calm and quiet about it... it was peaceful. Vixensong took in a deep breath as she waded through the tall blades of grass, her tail curling in delight as she paused for a moment. There really was something magical about this place. The young warrior could just feel it in the air.
When she opened her hazel eyes, Vixensong found herself staring up at the sky. The sun was just starting to set and bathed the meadow in a brilliant golden glow. The rays of the setting sun set off the brighter copper shades of her fur and created the illusional of a halo around the Fallclan warrior. A smile tugged at her lips as she settled down. Her ears twitched as she watched the sun fall lower over the mountains in the distance... the sky full of brilliant orange, red, and pink shades. As the sun began to disappear over behind the mountain peeks, Vixensong felt her excitement grow. Her most favorite part of the meadow would soon appear... before long she was surrounded by dozens of fireflies. They bobbed through the air, floating around Vixensong's ears and head as they emitted their soft glow.
Much like an entranced kit, the warrior found herself rising on her haunches, and gently batting at the lightning bugs. Perhaps this time she'd finally convince one to land on her paw.
This time of year, prey was always found in abundance around the territory. It was the reason why FallClan held so many feasts, and it certainly helped them stockpile for leafbare. Still, somehow Legendarydemise had managed to not find a single trace of prey as he wandered the territory. He wasn't sure when it happened, but the sun had vanished beyond the horizon, and he was left pondering over his luck - or lack thereof.
He had begun his trek back to camp when something caught his eye. It was dark, but the fireflies illuminated her like the moon. Their movement was like a hypnotizing dance, but the black tom couldn't take his eyes off of the she-cat playing around them. For a few moments, Legendarydemise could only stand, the worries of his failed hunt flying away, replaced by the loud beating of his heart. She was far more beautiful than the fireflies in his eyes.
Finally, words returned to the tom, and he slowly approached, careful not to spook the glowing creatures. "Trying to catch one?" he asked, voice soft.

Vixensong let out a small chuckle as she watched the fireflies dancing right in front of her nose. They were so close now. She couldn’t help but reach her paw out towards them once again. Her movements were slow, careful, but the fireflies always scattered as soon as she reached for them. After a moment she simply rested her paws against the ground and settled for watching their dance against the night sky.
Her ears twitched at the sound of his voice. It was soft, almost a whisper and hard to catch if it wasn’t so silent in the meadow. Vixensong quickly turned her head, her face lighting up almost as bright as the fireflies.
“Legendarydemise…!” She exclaimed softly as she rose to her paws. The russet-pelted warrior quickly made her way over to him, whiskers twitching as she stopped by his side.
“I was trying to, yes.” Vixensong admitted sheepishly, embarrassed that the tom had witnessed het acting like an excitable kitten. “But they scatter as soon as I try to, so I settled for watching them. What about you? What brings you all the way out here..?”
The soft smile that had been on Legendarydemise's face as he watched Vixensong and the fireflies turned into a grin when she ran to him, and he tilted his head ever so slightly as she talked, subconsciously making sure his good ear was close. Perhaps he should have been embarrassed that he had been caught watching her, but wasn't that why he spoke up in the first place? Plus, it was hard to feel anything but happy as he took in her sheepish expression.
"They are rather hard to catch, if watching the kits during the Celebration of Lights is anything to go by," he chuckled. He had never tried to catch any during the festival, and he had already been an apprentice during his first one. He had already lost his sister by then, hadn't he? Weirdly enough, he was able to quickly distract his thoughts just by listening to Vixensong's questions.
"Hunting," he replied, then gave a shrug. "Though the prey all seem to think I smell or something. I couldn't find a thing."

"Oh I wouldn't say that," Vixensong said with a soft chuckle, gently tapping his chest with her paw. "It is starting to get colder. They may just be staying warm. I don't blame them." She mewed as her whiskers twitched.
"Besides... you only smell after your many training sessions with your many apprentices." She teased, lifting a paw to her muzzle as she hid her chuckles. It was so easy being able to relax around him. To laugh around him. Vixensong didn't feel as nervous or shy when she was with Legendarydemise.
"Now, I did take a few tips from the kittens." Vixensong said as she turned back towards the fireflies. "But I think a quieter, calmer approach would be the best idea for catching fireflies"
"I don't smell that bad, do I?" Legendarydemise's eyes widened, and he immediately stuck his nose into his fur to check. He had been training his newest apprentice, Shadowpaw, just before going hunting on his own. He couldn't smell anything out of the ordinary, however, and turned his gaze back to Vixensong. "I do seem to have a never-ending supply of apprentices waiting, don't I?"
He tilted his head at her next sentence. "Please, do show me, how do you catch a firefly?"

Vixensong let out another chuckle as she watched him sniff his fur. It was charming in a way, but adorable at the same time. "No, you really don't smell that bad. I was only teasing. But yes, you do seem to have a never-ending supply of them. Hystericstar must think highly of you and your skills. It's not unfounded, if I may say so."
The young warrior twitched her ears as she glanced back at the fireflies. Catching them with Legendarydemise would be fun, much more fun than doing it on her own. "Well then, my young apprentice," She chuckled. "Let me show you how to catch them."
Vixensong slowly padded further into the meadow, stopping for a moment before glancing back at her shoulder. "Follow me then."
Legendarydemise couldn't quite believe that Vixensong said. He wasn't sure if Hystericstar thought highly of anyone, so this must be some sort of punishment. Whatever he may have done to get on the wrong side of the leader, he had no idea. Perhaps it was something from back when he was a kit, and the leader just held grudges?
Shaking the trail of thought out of his mind, he turned his attention back to Vixensong, grinning as she called him her apprentice. At her prompting, he followed behind her, holding in a chuckle. Moons ago, he would never have imagined doing something as silly as catching fireflies, but Vixensong always seemed to be able to get him to do things. He was weak against her. "Whatever you say, my wise mentor."

The russet pelted warrior offered him a soft smile before she led him towards what she assumed was the middle of the meadow. Vixensong settled down comfortable, fighting the urge to wrap her tail around her paws as she waited for Legendarydemise to join her.
“Now, what I’ve noticed is that the key to attracting the most fireflies is to remain as still as possible.” She mewed. “No fast movements or they scatter about and won’t come close.”
Even now she sat perfectly still. There was no twitch of her whiskers or flick of her ears. Any movement she made, whether it was a turn of her head or soft sweep of her tail, was slow and soft. Before long many of the small fireflies began to lazy float about their heads. Their beacons of light creating a soft halo of flickering light around the pair of cats.
It was only slightly difficult for Legendarydemise to be completely still as he copied Vixensong. The only movement that he had a hard time controlling was the occasional flick of his bad ear, but eventually he had managed to at least slow it enough so it appeared as if it was on purpose.
Then, the fireflies came. Ever so slowly, he tilted his head. The small, dancing lights were still every bit as beautiful close up as they had been from a distance, but his gaze settled on Vixensong again. The soft light reflected in her eyes, and he could hardly look away. Instead, he silently swallowed, forcing his attention back to the fireflies. "What next?" he asked, his voice just barely audible.

Vixensong tried not to laugh as the fireflies floated close to her face once more, the vibration from their wings tickling the skin of her nose. Instead, she flicked her ears towards Legendarydemise before she slowly turned her head towards him. The black tom had looked so mesmerized. For the moment, she assumed that it was simply because of the fireflies and their illuminations. The dark ginger warrior didn't dare assume it was anything else. Though she did feel her heart falter a beat as she gazed at him.
"Well," She said quickly, softly clearing her throat as she sat back on her haunches. "You just slowly lift your paw up and wait for them to land. Here... like this..."
Vixensong slowly reached for Legendarydemise's paw, slipping it under his and carefully raising it up into the air. "And... remember... just stay still..."
Normally, Legendarydemise would have immediately looked away when he had been caught looking at Vixensong, but she hadn't called him out on it. Plus, the sudden movement would have scared away the fireflies, and probably would have made the she-cat sad. It took all of his self-control to keep his gaze even, and then slowly and gently look away. Perhaps she hadn't noticed what had actually caught his attention? He was never the lucky sort, but maybe just this once he had lucked out.
The soft feeling of something on his paw caught his attention again, and his gaze flickered to their paws just as Vixensong lifted his. Immediately, the sound of his heartbeat pounded in his ears, and he missed her last words. He was far too focused on the paw, and the warmth that seemed to emit from it. Luckily, he had no intention of moving.

A small pang of disappointment blossomed in Vixensong’s chest when Legendarydemise looked away. But he probably hadn’t been looking at her to begin with. The she-cat slowly started to move her paw, pausing for a moment to make sure that his paw wouldn’t falter or shake.
“It’s all about patience.” She whispered, only to break into a small giggle as she watched a curious firefly float around the tom’s paw. “But it seems like you don’t have to wait for too long.”
Vixensong watched as the firefly slowly landed on Legendarydemise’s paw, its wings buzzing briefly before it settled. The soft glow of its light alternating between bright and dim as it slowly crawled between the black fur. “I’m a bit jealous,” she chuckled. “I’ve been here for a while and hadn’t managed to catch one just yet. Looks like you’re just lucky.”
Legendarydemise had almost completely missed the firefly, as absorbed in thought as he was in Vixensong's paw. It was the tickling sensation on the top of his paw that had shook him out of it, mixed with the she-cat's words. Was it just coincidence that she had mentioned luck, just like what had been on his mind? It had to be.
"I must be borrowing your luck then," he replied, slowly tilting his head to look at her once more, a small grin forming on his muzzle. "I'm not that lucky when I'm not with you." Yellow eyes flickered back to the bug resting comfortably on his paw, and an idea formed in his head. Ever so gently, so as to not scare the firefly, he tilted his paw, clearing a pathway straight to Vixensong. The curious little creature spent a few more moments getting lost in Legendarydemise's fur, before leaping onto Vixensong's paw.
"See? It appears as if you are lucky," he whispered, subconsciously leaning closer.
