Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Are you and Rhiannon close?" She'd go straight into what she wanted to know. It was always nice to have information, even over her mother she refused to claim. Who well, also refused to claim her as a daughter. It seemed to be a mutual understanding that they hated each other.

"Yes," he spoke immediately, with a shrug, "we're practically the only family left...before you guys at least." That was true after all. "How do you and your siblings get along?"

Her ears perked slightly. Interesting, she thought. She knew her next question, but unfortunately had to answer his. A question she didn't even know how to answer. Their relationships with one another were... unique.
"Somewhat." She decided on. Though she was unsure if even that were true. Her and Mal got along decently, but Kier... Kier was weak, and honeslty, he was weird. Something deep inside her held a fear of him, but it was so buried deep it was something even she didn't know about herself. Kier was... creepy.

Hywel looked at Kate with a raise of his brow; she didn't sound so sure of herself. "What do you mean somewhat?" he asked curiously, "is there anything I should know about your brothers? They're not being mean to you, are they?"

Kate snorted. "Mean? To me? I'll beat them within an inch of their life." She couldn't help but roll her eyes. Did he think she looked weak or something? There was no way she was going to let those sissys bully her. No, more like her and Mal would fight each other here and there. Or sometimes they would fight Kier even. However, Kate was no helpless kit. No, she knew how to hold her own.

He smiled at that, almost fondly. "You're just like your mother you know," he mused, "she pretty much attacked anyone who said a mean word to her when she was younger. You're definitely the personality of the litter I'm sure." Still, he had met Kier once, seen the scars littering his pelt, and he wondered whether it was her doing.

It was not exactly the right thing to say to her. Her nose crinkled. Her tongue seemed to have a bad taste just from hearing his words. Kate gave a loud huff and turned away from her 'uncle'. She'd rather not be compared to the feline that had abandoned her as soon as she got the chance. It was also something that was probably made clear in that moment. Kate and Rhiannon would likely never have a relationship, and she was fated to never find a liking to her biological mother.
It really did irritate her, how hard he was trying. At the same time that it irritated her, it also left her with some type of... safe place? Which also alarmed her. It was almost impossible for Kate to find trust in someone, in fact.. she only trusted Harley. "Why do you care so much of my litter? If she doesn't care, then why do you?"

That question stumped him for a moment, and it took him a few moments to choose a careful answer. "I guess in a way, it might be because I raised your mother," he answered slowly, shrugging at Kate, "I was the only family she had since she was an apprentice, and my own parents weren't exactly...nice." The way he lingered on the last word was all she needed to know. "I was a year old when we ran away and I became her guardian, and I guess it just feels normal to care about her kits, you know? Even if she's not ready for it."
At the end of the day, it boiled down to the fact that Hywel had never had his own support system. He had dreamed when he was younger, for someone to rescue him, to stand up for him while his father beat him to the ground, and nothing ever changed until one day, he had snapped...along with their father's neck. He'd never admit it, but it pained him to think that Rhiannon's offspring could feel that way too.

She flicked an ear at the information. Kate seemed to listen to every word, almost as if she were hungry for the reason her mother had rejected her so outright. Yet, even what Hywel offered wasn't enough to cure her undesirable taste for an explanation. If one dug deep enough, Kate definitely had mommy issues. Now that Kier seemed to be getting somewhere with Rhiannon... her heart ached even more.

He gave her a long look, before shrugging. "I'm a good listener if you ever want to talk about it," he flicked his tail, before shrugging. "So tell me, Kate, have you had much training before coming here? To hunt, or what not?"

"We would hunt the mice in the barn... Mal and I would practice together." She mewed, but didn't mention Kier. Kier was an odd cat who rubbed her the wrong way now, and she just wasn't sure what to think of her brother any longer.
"Of course." The more time she spent with her uncle, the more she could feel herself beginning to open up to him. It was unusual for her, as Kate was a closed off cat who was very untrusting of others. She found that it was hard to let herself have another who could actually know her. She'd act big bad and tough and full of attitude, but Kate was deeper than that. Most just didn't know this.
Her eyes shifted to him, wondering why it felt different. Was it because he was one of the first cats who actually seemed to care about her? Harley was everything to her, and not just her father. Also her mentor, and her main influence. Kate saw the tom as her protector, provider, and truly trusted her father with everything.
Could it be, that Hywel could also be more than just another cat in her life? Could Hywel be just as important as Harley? Could she trust him not to.. abandon her? These questions fluttered around in her head as she began to process the real meaning of having another family member... who cared.

"Good," he responded with a small smile, "and don't you forget it." He didn't enjoy fighting, not in the way the other league cats did, battling for the sake of settling scores and gaining reputations. He had always been more a lover than a fighter after all. Still, he wasn't a fool to think that it was unimportant, and he knew the value of being able to defend himself.
"How much of the city have you seen so far?" he asked, "I'm sure there's still plenty of places for a young cat like you to explore."

Good. He'd said to her. The praise felt oddly.. nice. Her ears flicked as she responded,"I've seen a bit." Should she tell him she'd met some city cat that had given her a tour? Unsure, she kept her mouth shut, for now.

"Do you want to go see some of it together?" he asked with a smile, as he turned towards the brownstone buildings and the hill leading up towards a church. He wasn't exactly fond of that cathedral anymore, but there were other houses and buildings nearby to see. "How about the park? Or perhaps the old warehouses?"
