Oh boy, his mom was gonna be proud of this one! Not even apprenticed for a quarter moon, and Fatepaw had gotten into what most of society would call trouble. He called it an opportunity to improve his skills. He went out for a sunrise hunt, and found himself in the eastern part of the territory. He was hunting this rabbit, and, well, a snake got in the way. After his event was all said and done, the almost-kitten had killed a rattle snake in the eastern part of the territory, and he couldn't hide his excitement. Unfortunately, the snake was larger than him. So he wrapped the dead snake around his body to carry it back. It took until noon for him to haul his kill into the camp, and he was out of breath. Still he saved up enough to say perhaps one of Littlestar's least favorite phrases: "LOOOOOOOK!!!!! MAAAAA!!!!!" It wasn't too long after that before he opened its mouth and start playing with the fangs...

"Fatepaw??!?" Littlestar grabbed the head of the snake to get him away from the fangs "Where did you get a rattlesnake? There is no way Darksonata took you out rattlesnake hunting so soon into your apprenticeship. It is really dangerous" there was fear in her eyes, the memory of him almost drowning still fresh in her mind. She forced her fur to lay flat, taking in a deep breath before continuing
"I'm proud of you for taking on such a big challenge, but that was very dangerous. If a rattle snake bites you, it's venom could kill you before anyone even knows that you have gotten bitten. Even after it is dead, it can still bite you"

Fatepaw was rather baffled when his mother pushed him away. He had just done what warrior were praised for, in the first moon of his apprenticeship. His ears went flat and he looked away. "I got it on the other side of the river. I promise I wasn't reckless. Before fighting it I watched it closely for a bit. You know, to get ready." He took another step towards the head of the snake. "I promise, I was never really in danger... but how could it still bite me when it's dead?"

"After snakes pass on, the can continue to move for quite a while. So if you get your paw to close to it's mouth it could still close around your paw and inject your with venom" he carefully kept her paw on top of the snakes jaws just to to be safe "Also when hunting snakes even experienced warrior take a partner with them. No matter how careful you are, mistakes can always happen and you might need that extra cat to go and get help"
She ruffled the fur on his head "Just be a little more careful next time is all that ask"

He shook his head. "But mom, I didn't need help. It just kind lay there when I bite down on its head." He shrugged as he pulled his paw away from his mom's and instead moved to play with the rattle. "It didn't even rattle at me... but it was fun. How many apprentices do you know that killed a snake without the snake even trying! It was so beat just seeing me it didn't try to fight!"

“It just laid there?” Had the snake already been dead? She couldn’t imagine that one of her warriors would have left it there for some unsuspecting apprentice to find but it was possible “Fine fine. If you are going to insist on hunting snakes, then how about I take you out for a special hunting lesson?” At least that’s way he would hopefull learn how to do so safely. Forbidding him from doing it wasn’t going to work, he would just try and sneak behind her back like usual.

He rolled his eyes. Ugh! Why did she just trust him?! It had been so long since that day in the gorge, and she still had no faith in him. His eyes brightened as she continued, and he was practically jumping up and down. "Yeah! Awesome! Everyone else is going to be so jealous!" He quickly pulled himself together and wrapped his tail around his paws. "I mean, I think it would be an enlightening experience. And maybe I can give you a few tips."

Littlestar chuckled "Just go and let your mentor know where you are going so that they don't worry, and I will meet you at the entrance to the maze after I finished up here" ---------------------> "Ready?" she asked her son, having just finished putting away the herbs that she had been gathering.

Fatepaw was already gone at that point. He bounded away from his mother and stood ever-so-impatiently near the camps entrance. He didn't let anyone pass without letting them know he was training with the leader. It came to a head when Nightfury walked by. "Guess what! I'm gonna go training with the leader! I'm so exc---"
The dark tom quickly cupped his paws and clamped the young tom's mouth shut. "Shhh..." He slowly let Fatekit's mouth go, and then trotted off like nothing had ever happened.
Fatepaw on the other hand was completely stunned. Sure, he had been told to be quiet in less-than-polite ways many times, but never that. He was rubbing his jaw while his mom walked over. "Yeah, but why'd you have to pick such a mean Soothsayer Promised?"

Littlestar chuckled "I didn't choose him, the Sun God did"
Littlestar's tail flicked on the young tom's shoulder as she led the way out of the camp and towards the scar. They would undoubtly come across some snakes here now that the sun was out in full force "Alright first lesson, snakes like to come out when the sun is out. Do you know why?"

"Oh, right. I guess Bravewolf really isn't all that wise then." He pouted, but followed his mom out into the territory. While he had heard of the scar, this was the first time that he had ever seen it. The landscape was oddly beautiful, but clearly devoid of life. Rather, life that wouldn't hunt you back. "Uhh, I don't know. Maybe they're as lazy as DayClan cats on a hot day?"

"Snake are unable to keep themselves the same way that we do. While we have fur and shiver when we are cold, they rely on the warmth of the sun. When the sun is out you can often find themselves basking in the sun in order to get energy. This is also the best time to hunt for them, right when the sun reaches it's peak before they have finished warming themselves up. When they are cold, they are more sluggish"

"Ohhhhhhh, I think I get it." Fatepaw attention was more directed to the expanse of land before him and finding a nice snake to hunt. He caught a few little details of what Littlestar said, but didn't pay full attention. "Sooooo, why are wasting time here when they could be getting ready to hunt. We should go now."

Had Fatepaw even hear anything that she just said? Probably not, but oh well. "Keep your eyes and ears open. Let me know if you find anything and we will hunt it together" she replied, the silver queen's gaze wandering over the expanse of warm stone (sorry stars XD I think im getting sick so I am not on top of my game tonight)

He nodded. Finally, some action, not that he had been hunting earlier that day. "Yeah, I bet all find one before you!" With that he wasted no time in jumping onto his mom's back like he did when he was a one month old kitten. He had gotten quite a bit bigger, but that mattered not to him, not when the hunt was on the line. "I really can't see any... but there are a bunch of flat rocks over there that might have something."

Littlestar chuckled, not minding her son climbing onto her back. One of these days he was going to be to big to do so, so it was best to savor this time together "From up there, I am sure you will" she moved towards the flat stones that he had pointed on, carrying the weight of the young apprentice even though he was almost big enough now that she wouldn't be able to carry him in a moon or so. "See anything yet?"
Since he was getting bigger, his mom's back was no longer the perfect, flat place it used to be. His claws hooked into her flesh as he stabilized himself, not that he really knew the discomfort he could be causing. He was focused on observing the wide, expansive place in front of him. "Hmm..." He squinted as his eyes settled on a bunch of rocks not too far from them. They looked almost normal, but there was a weird shape on top that didn't quite look right. "Maybe we could try over there first?"

"Lets go!" she purred, bounding forward despite the weight upon her shoulders and head. She approached the rocks, her own eyes and ears alert for danger, but thus far nothing had caught her attention "Ok the first thing is how we look for snakes. Out here you never stick your paws or tail into places that you can not see. One of the good thing about rattlesnakes is that when they feel threatened they make a lot of noise, so it is easier to find them"
His claws dug into his mom's thick fur. He did his best to avoid drawing blood or causing her any pain, but there was only so much she could do. He hopped off his mom's back when she neared the rocks, and did his best to imitate her motions "Got it!" He took a few cautious steps towards the rocks and began to climb them. She said earlier that wanted to sun themselves... so maybe on the other of the rock? He scrambled up to the top, and there on the other face he could see a snake basking in the morning heat. "Ma! I found one! It's where you said it would be!"
