It had been a few moons since he had become the only medicine cat of SummerClan, and Vulturemalice couldn't be happier. At last, he finally had gotten the routine down, had cleared out and redone the den to what worked best for him. Organized his herbs in a new fashion, cleared out a new nest space, even managed to entice some spiders to live up in the branches around his den to always provide him some cobweb. After his brief one-night affair, he came back to his den with a vengeance and did everything he could to put the dappled tom out of his mind. Being a medicine cat was what he was meant to do, and that would be his only focus.
"I need some more juniper and coltsfoot with the cold seasons coming up," he muttered under his breath, sifting through the different herb stores with a frown. "Colds and whitecough are bound to happen with the cooler weather."

"Did you need any help with that?" a voice called. The tall, thin, dark tabby stood at the entry way already headed there when he heard a voice. Although his blind light blue eyes looked at the floor, he raised and pawed a 'hello' to Vulturemalice quite accurately before continuing to walk into the den. Many season cycles ago the Medicine Cat Den was a long-time home for him, be it the initial visually impaired diagnosis as a kit, the attack near apprenticeship that served as a catalyst into permeant blindness; why he lived through many leaders since his mentor Whitestar then and Medicine cats alike. The latter even his first crush to the apprentice that nursed him, then friend and half-sister to his eventual mate. He owed a lot to this place and if he could make himself useful by helping sniffing out or carrying some herbs, he'd do it time after time. Vulturemalice was the latest of who he wished to reciprocate that benevolence to.
Vulturemalice looked up and saw Nebulous-sight enter his den. The young medicine cat gave a little grunt in a greeting, turning his attention back to the herb piles before him. "Help would be appreciated," he grumbled, flicking a dead leaf into the throw-away pile next to him. "Just trying to get prepared for the cold season coming up."

The mostly black tabby navigated his way over as soon as he heard he approval of the first sentence, it also made it easier to tell how close he could get to other cats when they spoke so he didn't accidentally bump into them, or misjudge which side they were and accidentally half-sit on them or get a whiskers-length away before realizing he needed to give some personal space back. Rest assured, all were former 'happy little accidents' he was less likely to make again.
"Marigold will stay will us at least until the first hard frost, so hard to pinpoint when in leaf-fall to harvest them; tansy will probably start to fall off this moon along with the last of the lavender before it goes dormant." He offered passive recommendations, he still got a few of the herb uses mixed up every now and then since it wasn't really his job to remember those nuances, but as a garden keeper, he could tell him how much longer they would last. "Peak season for borage, and catmint has already pass though we might be fine on those through leaf-fall. Poppy and chamomile on the other hand is probably looking forward to the cold," he mused with a smile and seemed to glance his direction, never knowing if the other would notice but those visual social cues he could easily forget about were still ingrained into his muscle memory; something only the seeing could appreciate.
[ do you have a mc position or would be interested in becoming an apprentice? >.> but i'm happy for them to just become good friends as well, vulture needs them tbh ]
Vulturemalice blinked rapidly, shocked by the blind toms knowledge of herbs. He didn't know Nebulous's history in the medicine cats den, and was presently surprised that someone knew this much about the flowers that grew in SummerClan, garden keeper or not. "Know anything about the coltsfoot or feverfew in the area?" he asked with an arched brow, pushing his stores back into their places. "Juniper berries, daisy, and even lambs ear would be helpful as well." He knew one of those herbs was a tricky one to know about, let alone even to find on SummerClan lands. He was curious to what the dark furred tabby knew about.

(moonclan has beaten you to it unfortunately lol, but if the opportunity ever arises im game. I like to think Nebu has spent so much time in and around mc's half his time he helps out every now and then c: and yes consider the friendship a guarantee)
"Coltsfoot and feverfew...hmm" the tom slowly blinked with an assortment of facts and a spider web of information about them, the right thread giving him a multiple choice answer he could, and often did string together for context. (i don't remember or know what herbs grow in SummerClan since it isn't listed anywhere i can't answer properly so im going off vague information from the other clans forgive me) "Both are in-between season blooms: of green-leaf and leaf-fall. So whatever are in the area may only last another moon. Otherwise if we get in trouble DayClan has a strong patch of coltsfoot in it's Golden Pastures, and SunClan feverfew along it's rivers." he indirectly answered as he listened to the other push, presumably herbs, around the den. It was a bit harder for the blind cat to gauge how much was about since he didn't have the luxury of telling at a simple glance so he didn't want to rely on his possibly out-of-date estimates since he hadn't confirmed with another cat in a while. But he did know how long they would last regardless and could at least answer that. Likewise the other herbs should've been ready for this season's picking and would go dormant in leaf-bare.
"Daisies shouldn't be a problem for us for the most part, although other clans may be inclined to ask them from us" of the trio, daisies were the most picky about having their warm weather and they were one of the warmer, if not warmest clans having a longer lifespans daisies because of it. Lamb's ear were one of his most favorite -he'd line his nest with just them if he could- so he personally paid close attention to them. "We'll try to keep the snow and frost off the lamb's ear, some leaves will shrivel and need to be pruned but the wide-leaf ones in partial shade have faired better than the slim-leaf ones or those in full summer sun." Juniper berries were harvest every other year as they took more than a year to fully ripen but given their abundance shouldn't be a problem. "I doubt juniper will be a problem for us but if we have to borrow them it would have to be from SunClan or WinterClan and you know..." he shrugged and waved his paw dismissively given their enemy status with them, the closer clan would not be of benefit to them. "Course we always could steal some from them." he joked with a devilish smile.

Plopping back onto his haunches, Vulturemalice gave the tom a rare smile. It was in that moment he remembered that the dark furred tom couldn't see him, but the young medicine cat didn't care. "Very good," he complimented him, flicking his tailtip over the toms ear. "I don't come across many other cats that know this much about herbs. I assume your lack of eyesight is the cause of you knowledge?" His lake of empathy was known throughout the Clan, but Vulturemalice didn't care. Getting straight to the point was the best way to learn things about someone, even if it made him come off a bit rude. "What happened to you, if you don't mind me asking?" There was always something for him to learn, Greythorn had taught him. Even if learning of the cats past, it could give him an inkling on how to help another in the future.

"Hmm, give or take. I always liked being around when I was younger, or rather the cats who inhabited it before you. So I guess since fighting and hunting were annoyingly harder and I spent my free time here it just made sense to be productive that way until Garden Keepers became a thing. So either that or being old you know." (depending how you estimate age he's the equivalent of being either 36 or 50) He shrugged and chuckled, quite relaxed and easy going with any cat no matter forwardness or what may be considered rude. There were times he liked being direct and straight to the point as well and a lifetime of cats hesitating with him when he had to rely on them keeping him informed sometimes was something he could do without. Course admittedly it made him nosy and he also like to pry at cats for information given how little he had to work without seeing visual cues or reading body language of others.
/What happened to you, if you don't mind me asking?/ Oh he hadn't been asked that in a while, least not by anyone who wasn't older than a kit. It wiped his expression blank again but didn't necessarily put him off. He had years to accept and come to terms with it, at least he assumed he meant the obvious blindness, what else could there? "It was genetic, or something I was born with." he shrugged, a slight tapping of his foot. "It started to become blurs when I got closer to becoming an apprentice and I was a.. a dumb brat back then. I didn't appreciate everyone babying me and trying to hold my hand paw for everything so.. I wanted to do something for me- by myself and like an idiot tried to go to the wildflower fields alone. Luckily I had Cloudysky to save my skin when we ran into some rogue on our territory. That jerk..." he trailed off looking at the distant floor. "He really got my handsome face pretty good, no?" He picked back up his tone, facing the younger cat with a wry smirk not that he really cared about looks he couldn't see. He could only hope it didn't bother others too much, but if it did - it still wasn't his problem when there was nothing to be done about it.
Vulturemalice listened with a small frown of concentration, hoping that the toms blindness might have been something he could have helped. He was said to hear that it was degenerative disease though, nothing to be done about it and only seeming to get worse with age. It made him think of Greythorn for a moment, still holding on to the hold that he could find some way to heal his old mentors ears. But after trying everything he could think of, there had been no results.
"Your face is still handsome as it was, I'm sure," the medicine cat said with a chuckle. "Have you had any sort of pains otherwise?" Even now, he was always trying his best to learn something. And then again, it might be an opportunity for him to make a friend. He had few and far between, Sunpetal and then Sunpaw, though Greythorn didn't count.

The tom had a good laugh at the other's reassurance, even if it was a lie it was nice to have someone daring to talk openly about it and humor him rather than be so hush-hush or treat it like it was some shameful topic never to be brought up, not even for him and that right there was probably his only problem about his disability.
/ any sort of pains otherwise / "No, never as far as I'm concerned. Every now and then I could even feel Cloudy staring at me and he'd check them for me and I'd tell him to stop 'it's just the morning sleepy-crust on my eyes' or else he find a cold, soaking wet moss and rub it all over my face. Absolutely terrible - but if you ever need to torture someone remember this~" he seem to almost sing the last part as if this would be a moment in the main character's life he would one day look far back on and need his advice. Not that Nebulous-sight considered him the background character to anyone's story -but in all politeness- kinda was.
