You have been randomly selected for a patrol. While this thread may seem random, its actually rather important for the ongoing SunClan Plot <3 So please do your best to help keep this thread going
Butterscotchdrip -- stardance Yarepawn -- Jadie Dragonfly -- Cleaver Tenebrousrequiem -- Jetclaw Assertivewill -- Flurryofstars Dark -- Shadowbladeღ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ After a patrol reported some disturbances at the bone yard, Littlestar has organized a patrol to go and investigate. Some bones have been moved around, and strange scents close to the border. No one was able to recognize who or what had made the scent, but this patrol is to check out the area, make sure it is safe, and then try to track whatever it was that has been scented along the border.

"Well, I don't understand why we need to be checking it out." BUtterscotchdrip was almost infuriated that she was selected to go out on this patrol. "It's just so pointless. It's a graveyard, there are scavengers. Who gives a damn if there were some disturbances. Ugh!" She rolled her eyes. "Bloodystar would not have had us waste our time like this. If he were still High Priest, we would be doing something worth our time."
"I sure hope I get to meet this Bloodystar one day. He certainly seems like a better leader that Littlestar," Yarepawn replied with a half-hearted yawn, although her pale green eyes were hyper-focused on the boneyard. After so many moons of living as a rogue, she'd become a little extra aware of her surroundings, "Still, scavengers or no scavengers, I suppose it is worth a check. Wasn't a cat killed her not all the long ago? Or did I get my information wrong?"

(I haven't completely settled into how he will interact with the clan, so I'll use the excuse of being a new recruit as reason for the slow adjust to him being in a clan)
It hadn't been long since he'd been here so he wasn't sure why he called to join this patrol, or why they were going to look at ..bones? Is this what the famous clans and cats of the forest and mountains did? Seem like a waste of time but... He glanced to each of the cats as they spoke. At least Yarepawn was here to make this patrol feel a little less weird. There were so many cats and names he didn't know either - he was starting to like it better when it was just their small rag-tag group but maybe that was just the new territory jitters, he always had a hard time warming up to new cats and new places. He never could sleep good the first night in a new den.
"Who is this, .. this 'Bloodystar'?" Midnightcurrent interjected thought not one for talking most of the time or around these new faces, he needed information and he already lost the plot after day one, so here we go again, he'd try to remember all this meaningless lore to him because they mattered to Yarepawn and that was reason enough.
Dragonfly was honored to be selected for this patrol... or at least, he had been until Butterscotchdrip started complaining about it. He was starting to feel a little self-conscious about his excitement now, and trailed at the end of the patrol, too despondent to bother arguing with her about that tyrant. But as the others chipped in, he sighed and reluctantly raised his voice.
"Bloodycrow was a murderer and a coward. He imprisoned Littlestar and punished the clans for moons before she finally chased him out. If he was in charge, we wouldn't be on a patrol here, we'd just be more bones in the yard." His voice had an edge to it. He didn't want to have this argument here, especially not in such a spooky place. "Honestpaw died here," he admitted, a shiver racing down his spine at the thought of the tom. Honestpaw was only a little bit younger than Carnagepanic himself. He hadn't seen the body, he had been too scared to go to the funeral, but he had heard nightmarish stories.
"He doesn't sound that different than Foxstar. She imprisoned a leader or two in her time and for good reason" Yarepawn said, narrowing her eyes on Dragonfly. She didn't care much for this tom. He seemed soft-hearted and her version of SunClan didn't have cats like him representing it, "But I guess Bloodystar -- I'm sorry, Bloodycrow -- couldn't have been that great if he let my sister beat him out of his seat as High Priest. Speaking of the change in power, did that happen before or after Honestpaw died, out of curiosity?"

All these supposedly loyal SunClan cats, and no one truly hoping for their true leader's return. It made Butterscotchdrip sick to her stomach. One of these days, she would leave SunClan and look for their High Priest herself. "No! It's Bloodystar!" She growled and looked back to the rest of the patrol as she walked. "He deserves all of your respect! He did everything for his Clan!" Tears began to well in her eyes. "I don't understand how all of you can be so mean to him! He gave everything he had to make our lives better, and then you all just want to replace with a heretic Moon worshipper! Ugh!" She turned away from them and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Those murders never happened when Bloodystar led us, so I wonder what changed. I know, we let MoonClan's High Priest in and let her lead us."
"Wow, that's a bit more information that I asked for, but thanks," Yarepawn seemed wholly unaffected by Butterscotchdrip's breakdown, although she did want to change subjects. It wasn't doing anyone any favors to have someone be so emotional and any further conversation on that topic would surely make it worse, "Anyway... We are here to search for abnormalities, right? Let's get to it."

(Some minor gore if that's not your thing)
"Well, you should know our real history, not what all of them want you to think. Littlestar is a lying fiend and she---" Her voice broke off into a shriek. As she stepped, the ground seemingly shattered and sent her into a small pit. The screech became a wail as she landed on the bottom, which was riddled with pointed and sharpened bones sticking straight up that were also coated in sand, dirt, and who knows what else. Her front legs stood no chance. One bone pierced her left upper leg up unto the joint, and she landed on a bone square in the center of her paw. The bone went straight through. She had slowed enough at that point so that her hind legs and paws where certainly punctured, but not impaled. "HELLLLLLLLLP!" She tried pulling her paw up, only to find that it was caught. Only then did she notice that the bones were chewed so that they had a few downward facing points meant to cause more damage on when the cat tried to get out.

With a bored expression Midnightcurrent had tried to follow along with the story-telling immediately running into the headache of, "Why the back and forth? is it Bloodycrow or Bloodystar?" he sighed under his breath, not directed towards anyone or looking for an actual answer. But he made mental notes- okay Littlestar that was the first SunClan cat they met when they joined. No idea who Honestpaw was but they were dead so who cares or rather they probably weren't going to mentioned much again. "Hmm?" He verbally voiced his confusion when the ginger and white she-cat exploded with emotion at them and oh great, what was a moon worshipper and what the heck did that have to do with any of this? He was going to need a bigger mental notepad. He carried his confused expressed until Yarepawn spoke and dismissed the other she-cat. Everything about this little field trip was an abnormality to him, and he settled back to his previous normal state if with an uncomfortable air around them for the moment at least until it happen -
"Hide your potatoes!" the heavy accent rolled off his tongue as he jumped at Butterscotchdrip's scream. The dark grey tom seemed to swear something to himself as he quickly relaxed the raised hair on his back and fluffed out tail. There was no time to be embarrassed or bother explaining the expression he blurted out.
"Ах чорт вазьмі!(oh damn) Who did this?!" He exclaimed with a surprising anger to it. "Don't move, that'll only make it worst! We'll get you out, somehow . . ." he mumbled the last word as he looked away from the rather horrifying scene but didn't exactly see a staircase down or convenient branch long enough just lying around. Although he was one of Yarepawn's recruit and tended to walk a morally-gray line, a pessimistic doomer did not equal a cruel, sadistic onlooker.

Talking up Bloodycrow was getting on Tenebrousrequiem's last nerve the big tabby tom having to pointedly keep focused off to the side and not look ahead towards Butterscotchdrip.
He curled his lip when Butterscotchdrip started screeching. 'Serves her right.' His expression smoothed into indifference when he turned to look at the others.
"Watch your step Dragonfly, Midnightcurrent, Assertivewill" There was a beat. "You too Yarepawn." After all the tom had wisened up and started calling Bloodystar, Bloodycrow. "And yes it is Bloodycrow the one who nearly brought about SunClan's destruction will be called no other name... aside from perhaps corpse when the day comes."
The tom considered the trap Butterscotchdrip had fallen into. His eyes narrowing when he saw how meticulous it was done. It made his ears twitch as he cast his gaze around.
"The immediate area around the trap should be stable." He said. "Be wary anywhere else. Perhaps we should go fetch some rocks to try and shove them onto places to test them to try to find and destroy any other traps."
He'd leave the others to figure out rescuing Butterscotchdrip. His mate, his beloved was still struggling with the scars left behind from Bloodycrow. Anyone who spoke kindly of him could rot for all he cared.
The priority was ensuring no one else undeserving suffered such a fate.
"What are you, stupid? Throw rocks down on top of her? Give me a break," Yarepawn snapped at Tenebrousrequim, rolling her eyes. She pretty much dismissed him after that and settled her jade green eyes on Midnightcurrent, the cat she trusted most among her assembled clanmates, "The hole isn't all that deep. Hold onto my tail and lower me down there slowly: I'll get her out of there."
Yarepawn had always been a quick thinker and, after her many moons of saving strays and bringing them into the light of the Sun God, she'd also developed a special skill of rescue. Yes, she knew her plan wasn't well thought out and risky, but so was everything she always did. She'd made it this far acting on impulse and didn't intend to change anytime soon.
"We're coming down there shortly, Butterscotchdrip! Hang in there and try to stay still until I get down there to help you."
Tenebrousrequiem scoffed and shook his head. "Apparently your listening skills are as half baked as your planning skills." He said. "I said throw rocks over the area beyond her hole, there's more space in the bone yard after all. Unless you'd rather the rest of us just wander around to find and disable any others. I already said it's likely the area immediately around her trap is stable. Throwing rocks on top of her wouldn't prevent anyone else from falling into a trap, just end her suffering."
'And silence her idiotic blind faith in Bloodycrow.' Tenebrousrequiem thought privately.
But the more he looked at the trap, the more uneasy he felt. Honestpaw's body had been in horrible shape, and this trap wasn't meant to kill it was meant to trap.
'And if we go about a haphazard rescue it'll likely take more victims.'
And anyone who didn't fall prey to it would still leave a smaller fighting force.
Tenebrousrequiem sighed. He had little sway with this group, he wasn't close with any of these cats so even if he argued to leave Butterscotchdrip to lure out what might've attacked Honestpaw, or argued to disable any other traps, they might get swept up in helping their clanmates since Yarepawn wanted to leap before she looked.
"Before you rush down there, you need to think." Tenebrousrequiem meowed.
"This trap isn't far into the boneyard, and while it's very possible there might be more like it, it doesn't look big enough to catch more than maybe a cat or two off guard. Which after one was sprung, and claimed a victim, anyone else who came after would be on high alert. If they knew what was coming."
"This isn't a trap to kill, it's a trap to maim and hold, to make escape difficult and painful." Tenebrousrequiem noted. "Think Yarepawn, if Honestpaw was brutally killed, then why would his killer settle for just maiming a cat? They know how we think, they know we'd jump to help a clanmate. Which means we can't just jump in, we need to think."
"they likely expect the trap to claim victims in not just the initial surprise and mistakes, but also in rescuers making a rushed attempt to rescue the victims, and thus becoming victims themselves." Tenebrousrequiem went on drawing back the way they had come snagging a dead branch and dragging it over. "So, you need to be smarter."
"Going down there with just Midnightcurrent holding onto you, you risk yourself and him. But, if you put a branch or two down there. You have something else to stand on and keep yourself safe." He set it to the side within reach for Yarepawn to take, he wasn't actually interested in helping Butterscotchdrip after all, just offering Yarepawn a smarter way to rescue.
"In the meanwhile, Dragonfly I want you to keep watch for anything that might be coming towards us." Tenebrousrequiem went on turning to the cat. He didn't know what Assertivewill would do but he wanted at least one other cat to sit out any rescue attempt just in case.
If it went belly up Tenebrousrequiem would rather have a cat at his back who could still fight without problem.
"Sometimes the best solution is the most obvious. But, by all means, go collect your rocks and branches. No one's stopping you," Yarepawn replied as she leaned over the pit's edge. She finally got a good look at Butterscotchdrip's paw and frowned, it was a lot more serious than she'd originally expected. If she wasn't careful about this, that young she-cat would end up maimed like Dragonpaw, "Assertivewill, would you be a dear and go get some cobwebs or moss? Once we get her out, she's going to need it urgently."
She then turned her gaze back to Midnightcurrent and stuck her tail out toward him, "Are you ready?"
Tenebrousrequiem snorted shaking his head at her. Butterscotchdrip's front legs were as good as doomed in his eyes. She'd be lucky if she only lost the one where the branch had skewered through the whole thing, rather than both it and her paw.
He looked at Midnightcurrent, "Surely you can see reason," He said to the tom. "With nothing but the dirt and your own neck supporting Yarepawn she'll just wind up impaling herself as well as she tries to get Butterscotchdrip out. Putting something down to act as a bridge over those bones will be a lot easier. Not to mention easier for you to hold."
"But if not do as you'd like, though we will likely have to leave you three to fetch help if you all wind up compromised." Tenebrousrequiem said simply tail flicking. In truth he'd likely just send Assertivewill back to camp if they did fail their rescue attempt. It was likely that whatever had attacked Honestpaw might be lured out by the possibility of fresh prey and come to try and take advantage of any victims of its trap.

/ Hold onto my tail [...] I'll get her out of there./ Midnightcurrent met her with an equally unsure and aware of the risk look that asked 'are you sure' but didn't speak verbally as he already knew. It's not like he or anyone else was having any better ideas and he didn't want to be the one to waste time if it caused Butterscotchdrip to bleed out.
"I'll find the best solid ground" he answered her immediately looking over the earth avoiding the sides that had soft crumbling dirt, neither too damp or soft and the side with the most roots sticking out of it was like threading weaved into the earth itself, that extra bit of strength and friction should mean he could dig his heels and paws really into and the ground and (hopefully) not have their chunk of cliff break off under the stress and weight of three cats. There we even a thick root and thick vegetation alike to give him good footing.
/ Think Yarepawn, if Honestpaw was brutally killed, then why would his killer settle for just maiming a cat? / He had stopped listening to the bickering for a moment when he was focused on the ground but tuning back in and hearing this 'Honestpaw' again... Well, hearing out this Tenebro- Tennisball? No, Tenebrousrequiem made him wonder what was secretly going on with theses cats even they didn't know about. He didn't disagree with the tom though, he didn't want Yarepawn to go down there without any footing - besides if Yarepawn just grabbed a part of her and yanked at an angle that could make Butterscotchdrip's wounds worse...
/ Are you ready? / "Ready!" like instinct it rang out of him even when he was still looking away and he already pressed all paws into place, twisting them until they were firmly locked in the greenery and earth alike. "Yarepawn," he looked to her "She needs to be lifted straight up - off the spikes then out of the hole." he strongly implied they could benefit from the branch idea without having to actually say 'Tenebrousrequiem is right'. He didn't even need to hear Tenebrousrequiem ask him to think about it, he just turned to him and calmly assured: "I'll never let her down, she won't fall." He was aware of how hard it was going to be on them which further put his preference in using branches and anything else they could use but even if it was going to come down to sheer will he'd down what he need to, to make sure Yarepawn got out of it alive. He wouldn't be here if not for her, so times like these he still occasionally considered himself a dead cat walking anyways.

"Tenebrousrequim, do you plan to sit there and keep telling me that I'm not doing this right, or are you actually going to do something such as implement your own idea? I told you I wouldn't stop you, just that I wouldn't wait for you," Yarepawn sighed, allowing her attention to be divided for just one moment longer as she gave the tom an exasperated look. She and Midnightcurrent had lived as rogues for years. They didn't have the luxury of time or the option to go get help during those times, they were constantly flying by the seat of their pants, which was risky, yes, but it had gotten them this far.
Yarepawn had been born and raised in SunClan and after her moons away she realized just how dangerous the crutch of security could be to the development of Clan cats. She could see that Tenerbousreqium had that rare spark needed to be a spectacular leader, but Clan life left him soft, giving him time to overthink things and focus on those who disagreed with him more than the cat stuck in the hole with spikes through her paws.
And here Yarepawn was, feeding into it, which she supposed made her just as bad.
OK, that's it, time to save Butterscotchdrip.
The dilute calico she-cat nodded to Midnightcurrent, taking his advise to heart although she wasn't sure how feasible it would be. Could he handle pulling two cats out of a hole by himself? No, probably not. She figured she'd humor him but had a plan B in the back of her mind just in case.
"I'm coming down now, Butterscotchdrip. Hang in there!" stardance
SUMMARY FOR STARDANCE SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO READ ALL OF THE ABOVE:
Yarepawn and Tenebrousrequim are in disagreement for how to handle this situation. Yarepawn wants to be lowered down into the pit and help while Tenebrousrequim wants to verify the pit is safe and then drop down a branch for Butterscotchdrip to climb out on. Yare told Ten that she wasn't going to wait for him and the two bicker for a bit, which results in Yare just doing what she wants anyway. She's just been lowered down to Butterscotchdrip by Midnightcurrent who is holding onto her by her tail.

Through all of their bickering, Butterscotchdrip was bawling her eyes out. Despite all of the pain and the obvious set up, she was still trying to pull her paws off the barbed spikes to avail. All the movements only cause more damage, and more bleed. More spots around her body suffered smaller puncture wounds as she struggled. "GUYS! MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MINDS AND HELP ME!" Her wail became screeches as pain merged with anger.
She hurled various other curse at them and the world until she heard Yarepawn again. "About time!" Really, it hadn't crossed her mind how unsafe it would be for the rest of the patrol to jump in blind. Between the adrenaline rush and her fear, it just never made it.
Tenebrousrequiem huffed, and opted to pick up his branch. He came up beside Midnightcurrent, carefuly not to bump him or Yarepawn and set the branch down.
The branch brushed against Butterscotchdrip's side as he pushed it into the ground of the hole on the other side, making a support Yarepawn could grab onto in a pinch.
Butterscotchdrip's screeching would only ensure trouble might be coming sooner rather than later. And he decided it was best Midnightcurrent and Yarepawn, not be hurt for trying to get her out and shutting her up.
"There, you can grab it if you run the risk of losing your footing. Don't fall into the spikes." He said sharply. Before turning to go fetch more. If Yarepawn did fall in they'd need to cover more of the bottom of the pit to create platforms for any rescuers to stand on and extricate them safely, so he set off to go find another good piece of wood to stand on.
Dragonfly was glad to escape the group. He was horrified by how they talked about Butterscotchdrip -- even if she was wrong, she didn't deserve this -- but he made no effort to defend her and instead turned and paced away to keep his ordered watch.
Keep watch; that was easy. He could do that. The small tom tuned out the arguing and the screaming as he paced protectively back and forth on solid ground, praying it was not going to give way beneath him like it had their companion.
