Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Takes place in the evening after Fawnheart's Death thread. Jetstar sighed as the stars began to come out, sitting on the log where she gave announcements daily, looking down on the body laid out in the middle of camp, Sakurapaw and Firefly still close to the body. Softpelt off to the side, wanting to give Fawnheart's kin and apprentice space to grieve freely.
But now it was time for the clan to respect and honor Fawnheart, sharing tongues with her one last time before tomorrow they buried her, finishing her journey to StarClan.
"Cats of SpringClan, as many of you are now aware, Fawnheart died this morning saving young Sharpkit from a venomous serpent." Jetstar meowed. "Fawnheart was medicine cat for many many moons, she was made an apprentice seasons ago, and then served her clan faithfully as our healer for many different leaders. She was a good fair and kind cat, a mother to Firefly, Autumnblaze, Stellareclipse and others. A good friend to many, and mentor to Sakurapaw."
"Even though I was leader for only a few seasons in her tenure as medicine cat, I recognized her kind heart. Her good work. She was a noble and kind cat. I am grateful that I got to know her." Jetstar meowed.
"And I know that StarClan will welcome her with honor. So before her spirit leaves us completely, let us share tongues with her one last time." Jetstar meowed.
Sakurapaw was certain the feeling she wasn't supposed to be having was rejection. Denial. An inability to look at the body that lay at her back. Horror still filled her gaze, emptiness in her heart, a frost settling in her bones that caused her to imperceptibly shiver every other minute. Perhaps she should feel grief; and she did, though she refused to acknowledge it. Perhaps she should feel lucky to have the chance to remain at her mentor's side, though truthfully, she felt unbearably out of place. She felt unworthy, especially when right next to Fawnheart's kin, Firefly, who did deserve to spend what time was left with the former medicine cat. How could he even remotely bear for her to be anywhere near his family when she was the reason Fawnheart lay here in the first place? The white she-cat's ears flattened to her head all the more.
She wanted to do nothing more than run out of the camp and put as much distance between herself and Fawnheart – herself and Firefly, believing to feel the chill of his judging gaze on her pelt – as she could. Yet she was required by vow as a healer and the grieving ceremony to remain in her position. As she sat underneath Jetstar and Firefly's gaze, attempting to maintain eye contact with the leader while also desperately wanting to look away, she found her stomach growing upset at the recent memory of preparing the former medicine cat's body for this vigil ceremony. Due to the heat of greenleaf and the humidity, the she-cat's vessel had already begun to emit an odor rapidly. Sakurapaw had done what she could to stall the inevitable, but that required coating the older she-cat's still, stiff pelt with mint to mask the increasingly intolerable scent.
Her front paws twitched, claws curling into the soft earth, desperate to feel anything under than the phantom sensation of Fawnheart's pelt under her pads.
