Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Burningstar sat upon a rock gazing out at the forest that stretched beyond the foot of the mountain.
she’d called Larkwing here because she wanted to speak with him. She’d already done the ceremony, naming him as her deputy. But she had wanted a chance to talk to him. Share with him some of what she’d need from him. And as the sun rose painting the sky pink and yellow, she knew a good portion of the clan would be in their nests asleep.
Lindon already knew what she’d tell Larkwing. Spy or not, he was a good confidant. And Burning wasn’t worried what he’d share with Kerrigan, she’d accepted that few of her secrets would be kept from the BrookClan leader.
unfortunateky the thought brought a sigh to her lips. Though her agreement with the Tsar had granted her the opportunities an alliance with BrookClan held, along with keeping Sksringbird’s kits, and avoiding war. It meant Burningstar had to keep her second in command in the dark. At least about the true nature of the alliance with BrookClan and why Lindon was truly there... besides being Burningstar’s mate. But she’d accepted that some secrets would need to be kept and buried deep.
Burningstar nodded, "I did," She shifted to the side to make room on the rock she was on, "Come, sit with me, we have much to discuss. And with the sun rising most of the clan is asleep. It's a good time for us to sit and talk."
She had after all kind of thrown Larkwing into the chaos of being deputy. But the cat was doing well. She was pleased with his efforts. But she also knew from her own experiences how much of a whirlwind of chaos it could be when you were just starting out.
“You have done well Larkwing, I know you weren’t expecting to be the next deputy. But you’ve risen to the occasion. I feel confident with you by my side we can get done what needs to be done for the good of NightClan,” Burningstar meowed.
“But there is much to discuss, much to plan.” The ginger she cat meowed looking back out to the territory. “We need to figure out how best to maintain our presence in SunClan. I fear the prisoners are being treated TOO harshly by SunClan. Hopefully with more NightClan cats around that might lessen. And speaking of prisoners... we need to come up with a plan of attack against WinterClan to go and rescue our cats imprisoned there.”
She sighed. “Not to mention our own struggles here with little prey as leafbare has taken firm hold now. So so many problems and decisions.”
He nodded, "I actually wanted to speak with you about taking action on rescuing Dayclan, Springclan, and our own in Winterclan. But I know its a risky move. I just can't stand by and watch these innocent cats be tortured and possibly killed." He followed Burningstar's gaze to the territory. "I know leafbare has us weakened but perhaps we could ask our allies for help."
“Unfortunately, unless BrookClan decides to bow out we can only do damage control for DayClan and SpringClan. But if Kerrigan is out, we’re out. I might go speak with her at some point.” Burningstar mused. “I’ve already helped DayClan by saving a litter of kits with Glowstar. They are in the Regime now. And the Regime is looking to help them. So if need be we can go to Commander Mars and offer them passage through our lands... but as it is our paws are tied. Our efforts must be secret or at the very least include an element of deniability.” Burningstar said grimly. “But I can feel change in the air.” She said. “SpringClan And DayClan will be free soon, but we can still help ease their suffering.” She paused for a moment.
“But I think Foxstar’s aware of this change in the air, she’s invited us to the execution of Deal.” Burningstar said quietly. “I’ve decided I will go and i’ll Let the warriors and apprentices know tonight. I have to go... and I’m certain Glowstar will try something to save her mate. If we’re there, we could plant our cats between SunClan and DayClan cats, a barrier that SunClan cats may not necessarily have to fight, but still have to get around.
Larkwing nodded hesitantly. "I can go with you if you'd like. Maybe we can get a better view of how the other clans are being treated over in Sunclan. We could get an idea of how the Sunclan cats look as well. Surely not all of the Sunclan cats are agreeing with Foxstar's decisions." He looked at his leader. He admired her strength and determination. He also understood her cautions; but it only made him more anxious.
Burningstar considered him. He was her newly chosen deputy, but she liked that he was so willing to stand at her side in the face of danger. On one paw though she'd be risking both herself and her second if something should go awry. But on the other she figured something was more likely to happen to her and if Larkwing was there and she was incapacitated he could seize control of their clanmates and get them to safety.
She nodded, "Yes, you can come. I'll need you in case something happens where I become incapacitated." She said. "I feel that this... execution will draw on SunClan's god the Sun God. And since Deal, as he was able to save Glowstar's life almost a year ago by granting her one of his extra lives... he was a leader at one point I assume. Foxstar might need some celestial means to execute him easily. That is only speculation, she could just intend to... well kill him again and again till he stays dead. But I want to be ready for anything. And so you'll be there in case something happens to where I can't order NightClan to safety." She said.
"As for the feelings of SunClan cats... Well with their god walking among them and with Foxstar clearly holding his favor as she is leader... I can understand their inability to stand against her. But... you're right Larkwing, this will be an opportunity to get a feel for how SunClan feels about what Foxstar's doing." Burningstar said. "Overall the benefits outweigh the risks, but even so it's still an execution... and as such I won't order anyone to come unless they want to. But I am glad that you're willing to accompany me."
He dipped his head, "of course. And dont fret, I will be there in case anything happens. I have to admit. Execusion isn't really something I agree with or want to be involved in but if you need me, I will be there.." The tip of his tail twitched before he continued, "will you try to intervene?"
"I will play it by ear," Burningstar said. "When we arrive we will first go to where DayClan and SpringClan are being kept. I will see what Glowstar decides to do and go from there. Glowstar knows Foxstar and Deal better than I do. She is close to both of them so her knowledge is greater than my own on, and from what I get from her will determine whether or not I should take such an action. But though I want to ensure SunClan does no more harm to DayClan and SpringClan tomorrow during the execution, I will not careless throw away my life to intervene. I do not know Deal, I do not know for what reason Foxstar wants him dead. While I disapprove greatly of execution, it is not my job to tell Foxstar what she can and can't do."
"If Glowstar convinces me Deal needs to be saved and Foxstar is wrong, I will assist her. In this case I will only act alongside Glowstar because in this case, she knows what I do not. And her understanding is greater than mine. And she has not steered me wrong before..." Her eyes filled with sadness though she hid it quickly. "But if I act it will be my own decision. And if I do, you must see to it NightClan does not follow me. If some revolution should occur during this, get NightClan and any DayClan or SpringClan cats you can out immediately." Burningstar said then she let out a weary laugh, "Great StarClan, I've just realized with Glowstar involved, we could be looking at a revolution erupting at this execution, or some other madness. That she cat is a master of chaos." She shook her head.
"But whatever happens, if I am unable to give orders for whatever reason, you will take our cats and get them away from danger. Otherwise follow my orders up till the point I can no longer give them or, if need be I'll signal you by lifting my tail to let you know that whatever happens, if something should erupt and fighting breaks out, or the sun god comes in and starts smiting, or something else absolutely mad. Leave and don't look back until you're certain all our cats are safe. I trust your judgement,"
"Thank you, Burningstar. I will make sure everyone is safe if something breaks out." He paused, "however...as bad as this sounds, maybe a diversion is what it will take to free the cats of Dayclan and Springclan."
He thought for a moment before replying, "I'm not entirely sure. I dont want anyone getting hurt...I could, perhaps, be the diversion. But that would risk me being injured or captured. But I will do it if you think that would be okay..."
Burningstar immediately shook her head. "No Larkwing, while I understand you want to help DayClan and SpringClan, if we're found to be working against our allies, it could make SunClan and BrookClan turn on us." She rested her tail on his shoulder. "But it's noble that you're willing to sacrifice yourself to help them. But we need to plan more carefully than that if we want to free DayClan and SpringClan." She murmured. "Our first priority is getting through tomorrow's execution... and then from there we'll see what lies ahead."
"But that aside, our apprentices are doing well, Duskwing's kits may need to be reassigned though, Allencatch is doing well with Beetlepaw. But Remnantpaw, Spiderpaw, and Briarpaw all in need of mentors. Would you want to mentor one?" Burningstar asked whiskers twitching.
"I understand, Burningstar. I wont act until you give the 'okay'." He replied respectfully. Thinking about what his leader had just said made him realize how risky and unthought out his plan really was. It was reckless and he felt embarrassed. He hoped that when it was his time to become leader, he wouldnt plan out actions so foolishly. He knew he had much to learn still. He just prayed that Burningstar wouldn't leave him too soon.
At Burningstar's mention of Briarpaw, he remembered their hunt together and how much he enjoyed showing her and teaching her about things. He felt like he was already her mentor. "If you wouldnt mind, I will take Briarpaw. Shes a pawful but I might be able to get through to her. Unless you prefer me with someone else."
Burningstar nodded letting out a purr, “I thought you would, I saw you two coming back the other day. I think you’ll be a fine mentor to her, and you’ll get through to her. I’m thinking i’ll Take on an apprentice again as well... since Claypaw vanished...” her eyes saddened. “I’ve been holding off. So many cats left us this past leaffall. Shiverstar, Gravity, two of their kits, not to mention our clanmates imprisoned in WinterClan,” her eyes narrowed still angry that Shiverstar had done nothing to help the prisoners and Burningstar hadn’t been able to fix the problem yet. It infuriated her.
Larkwing drew his tail down her flank for comfort. "Yes, we unfortunately have lost many cats. But we will get our clanmates back from Winterclan together." He gave a sympathy smile, "I think it will be good for you to move on to another apprentice."
