Littlestar waited for Soaringlight to join her at the ceremony springs. A lot of work had went into replenishing the herb garden there, though some of the herbs refused to regrow. The seed shrivled up and dying before they ever took root. It was rather mysterious, but at least the herbs that they did have were growing very well. They had an abundance of what they needed, thanks in no small part to her careful planning and Valleyrose's talent. She had been teaching Soaringlihgt the basics of healing, but there was an all to different conversation that the two of them needed to have.... Jadie
Soaringlights's paint was particularly on point today, but very minimal, pretty much only around her eyes and left shoulder. She'd always used paint sparingly and it seemed lately she was using less and less. It was hard to say if it was a stylistic choice or an act of rebellion, truly it could go either way with this one, who seemed to never quite outgrow the mindset of an angsty teenager.
"Damn, looks like we really can't get catmint to regrow. We used to have such large, glorious bushes of it... What a shame," Soaringlight seemed to be in a good mood today seeing as her first comment wasn't a direct act of rebellion. She turned her gaze to Littlestar and sighed, "You didn't bring me here to talk about herbs though, did you?"

"No" she agreed, tending to the herbs at her paws
Littlestar didn't look directly at Soaringlight, instead focusing on the task at hand as she spoke "Its rather clear that you are unhappy with your new position". THere was no judgment in her voice "Though I will not even pretend that I understand how you are feeling, not expect you to try an explain it. Instead, I would like to offer you an out" the silver queen never paused, her paws gently pulling at the roots of a herbs that had long since shriveled under the harsh rays of the sun "You don't have to explain yourself to me, but I will not continue to force you to serve in a position that you do not want. You may have been chosen, but there are ways to free you of your vows if that is what you desire. I am willing to take those steps necessary to grant you your freedom, to take the burden of the sacrifices that will be needed upon my own shoulders"
Finally she looked up at her promised, their eyes connecting "I will leave that choice in your paws. Don't make a decision yet. Think about it, figure out what it is that you really want. If it is to serve SunClan as my promised than so be it, but do make this decision based on what you think I or anyone else wants to hear Soaringlight. You know what lies within your heart"
"Why is everything so damn complicated?!" Soaringlight sighed, dropping the catmint and turning her dragon blue eyes to meet Littlestar's solemn golden ones, "That's what I hate about this Clan. There is no simple yes or no, everything's got flowery explanations, intricate traditions and so much judgement that it makes me sick. I'm not going to make you wait for an answer you already know anyway - No, I don't like my position. But I'll keep doing it not for you but for my brother. I can't very well leave him on his own with the cat who murdered him in his last life because it was easier than talking things out honestly like you and I are doing right now."
Soaringlight looked away from the High Priestess, annoyed mainly because he eyes had started watering. It wasn't because she was upset, but that she felt so, so passionately about this that the emotion was overflowing. She didn't want Littlestar to see it was weakness so pretty much right away she started busying herself with the herbs again.

"No" she replied, continuing her work on the herbs
"If that is how you feel, then you shall not continue to serve" she rose to her paws "It its not in your best interest, nor the best interest of the clan to have a priestess promised that is unable to put themselves fully into the work" it was a path she had gone own before, and not a mistake she was interesting in repeating "You say you are staying to support you brother, but how is this helping? You are miserable. Your brother already has a lot on his shoulders, and sitting by and watching you wallow in self-pity for being chosen is distracting and unfair to you as well" she took in a deep breath "You do not have to be my promised in order to stay by your brother's side"
Soaringlight's paws went still and she felt a sort of tingling in her from her toes to her tail-tip. She'd never know a SunClan cat to be so easily released from the chains of obligation and, while she certainly thought about it often, the last cat she'd expect to give her an out was the High Priestess herself. The dark-furred she-cat was still torn, though. Where was the fight? The drama? She didn't want either of those things of course, but it felt like it had to be part of it.
It couldn't be this easy...
"Is this one of your stupid tests?" Soaringlight finally said after a silence that almost lasted too long, "Are you trying to test my loyalty, my devotion? I don't want to play any more of your games."

"Of course this isn't a game" there was a sternness to her voice that it hadn't held before
"Your loyalty isn't to SunClan" she replied blatantly "I don't need some silly test to tell me that. You are here for one reason, family" she stood up letting her tail gently touch against the she-cat's shoulder "It's something that I admire about you, a trait that we both share. Even though this isn't what you wanted, your willing to stick it out for them. Only in doing so, your not only hurting yourself but the ones you love. You need to be honest with your brother about what it is that you want and need"
"I have already spoken to the ancients on your behalf... They are willing to free you of your duties, to allow you to travel between SunClan and the regime freely. I just have to fulfill what they requested of me"
Now that was a real surprise. She hadn't expected that Littlestar was going to free her not only of her position, but of the Clan itself. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up, but still the young she-cat hesitated, the duty she had toward her family still holding her back.
"What about Darksonata, can he leave-- I mean, travel back and forth, too?" Soaringlight didn't feel like she needed to ask if Bravewolf had the same luxury, it's not like anyone could stop him if he wanted to go anywhere himself, "But you're right, I'm not loyal to you, I'm loyal to my family. Those who stayed behind in the Regime I perceived as safe while those who lived in SunClan were not, so staying in SunClan was easy because I could protect them. Lately, though, the Regime has become more and more dangerous, and SunClan safer... which makes it even harder for me to be what you want me to be. I hadn't realized you'd noticed, but in hindsight it's kind of obvious, isn't it?"
Abandoning her project, she got to her paws and looked down at the leader with blazing blue eyes.
"I will talk with Bravewolf before I make my decision."
