Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
fire bringer by david clement davies!!!! it's set in 13th century scotland and is about this red deer who's part of a prophecy to put an end to tyranny and unite the herds. it's one of the most tragic, gut-wrenching books i've ever read and so beautifully, hauntingly written with so much atmosphere. sgorr, the main villain, is also one of my favourite antagonists of all time. it's quite gory and has a lot of adult themes, and it very much does not have a good ending (the suffering the main character rannoch goes through, being stripped of a childhood to fulfil the whims of some uncaring god... my heart breaks), and i'm utterly in love with it.
also the secret history and the raven cycle are very well known and in my opinion live up to the hype <33
(aside from that i mainly just read history books cx)
i think i own both A Court of Thorns and Roses and Daughter of Smoke and Bone but i dont think i've read them yet oop along with like 30 other books
i've been super tempted to reread Eon by Alison Goodman bc i've been going around telling people that it's one of my favorite books but i honestly can't remember that much about it anymore i'm terrible I did recently reread Graceling though bc i discovered there's a new book in that world that i haven't read yet so i was gonna reread them all first
me: owns a library of new books also me: rereads ones that i've already read
fox I've read Firebringer! I read it when I was in middle school though so I don't really remember much about it unfortunately, but I definitely recognize the name and oof no good ending DX
Though now that I've done a brief refresher I do recognize a lot of the details and oof. XP I should reread it at some point.
pao Eon is also great! I did pick up Eona intending to read it but I never got around to it (never knew my library actually had the sequel so for the longest time I'd just read Eon and never gotten to Eona, but hopefully I can change that XP)
I'm so glad so many people have read Eon omg. tbh one of my favorite clichés is 'girl disguised as a boy'. thanks Mulan.
but another great series that has that cliché is Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. it's honestly a weird concept and I love it, but it's an alternate reality WWI. the Clankers (uses machines) vs the Darwinists (uses genetically fabricated animals).
David Clement Davies is my fave, he also wrote a book about wolves called The Sight which is also excellent TBH, which is about a pair of siblings from a prophecy that had a gift called the sight and a whole evil cult religion dedicated to wolfbane who's like, the devil in these books. I absolutely love his work and his descriptive writing is genuinely mesmerizing. First time I went to Scotland's highlands all I could think about was Firebringer LOL and how he was right, this is exactly how I imagined Scotland to be like ahahhaah
I feel bad I haven't read any fiction in a while or at least,,,, I can't remember,,,, but uhhhhh if you want an infodump book on the history because I'm a nerd of random things like uhhh forks, and ecosystems or design..... I have those instead LOL
I caught Eon at Walmart (always always check the book area you never know what you’ll find!) and took it as my book to read on the way to and from the school tournament that weekend. I finished it on the way down there, it wasn’t but a five or six hour drive if I remember right. Snagged the sequel the following week at Walmart and demolished it too. I know can’t find either copy and think I may have loaned them to someone and forgot. Which means I’ll have to buy them again or see if the library has them
Anyone read God Omens? It’s cute! These ones are also good: Howl’s Moving Castle, Crank, the Iron King (which I remember reading the first book and then lost said book and haven’t reread it or books after it lol), the alchemyst: the secrets of Nicholas flamel (Michael Scott), plus a bunch of others that are on my bookshelf that I’m sure are good that I just hav t gotten around to reading.
Plus the classics of Percy Jackson, Harry Potter and the series that got us all here warriors lol
I have to second what Pao said the Eon and Eona books are amazing! They were honestly some of my favorite books that I binge read in middle/high school. If anyone is interested in some LGBT romance books I recommend are Red, White and Royal Blue, Boyfriend Material, Felix Ever After, and if your into mythology but want some gay romance sprinkled in Songs of Achilles. I haven't finished Boyfriend Material or Felix Ever After yet, but I have started them. But the other two books are definitely 18+.
If your not interested in adult books another good series that is ehh kind of rated but kids, but I think is still good is the Fablehaven series. It has fantastical elements in it along with. Mystery and even murder xD how my elementary school had it I have zero clue.
