Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
In all honesty, Shadedoak hated the snow. It was annoying, it gave off his position. Hunting was a bit harder, and if he were to need to hide for whatever reason, he assumed that would also be a downfall. Shadedoak was flustered now, even. He had chosen to hunt late in the night, hoping that perhaps maybe in doing so, the shadows would help conceal him. It was not the best idea though, as he had still yet to catch something.
He stood, watching the mouse skitter into a burrow, eyes rolling.
"That's some rough luck," A voice drawled behind him, Squirrelleap strolling up to join Shadedoak. "Not much out in the snow unfortunately tonight." The brown tabby tom mused. "Might have to try some luck a little further from the mountain... might not be as snowy." He mused.
Shadedoak shifted, his head turning to the cat whom had spoken. He gave a grunt in response, still rather flustered that he hadn’t managed to make a catch. His dark coat was just a dead give away in this white fluffy mess.
Squirrelleap considered his face. He understood. It sucked when you were struggling in the snow. "If you're having trouble in the snow, you need to find locations that are a little darker. More shadows to conceal you. There's typically better hunting if you manage to find a pine tree where the snow hasn't reached the bottom branches yet. Prey likes to go there." He meowed heading in the direction of a part of the area more occupied with pine trees, beckoning for Shadedoak to follow with a flick of his tail.
What am I, an apprentice? He gave a low growl, but inside he was thankful for some help. The warrior just couldn’t admit something like that. Not openly. The thick coated tom turned, and began to follow the other warrior.
"Hey, no need for growls here, we just gotta work together-" Squirrelleap trailed off ears pricking and he turned his head spotting a rabbit that sat near a rustling bush. The rabbit's attention was down sniffing at something below the bush.
Squirrelleap lifted his head to scent the air and try and detect where the wind was. They were down wind of the rabbit. If they worked together it'd be theirs and it was a decently sized one too. He held up his tail to tell Shadedoak to wait while he moved to get upwind of the rabbit stalking carefully and keeping to the shadows. He'd drive it to Shadedoak who would make the catch. And it would have the added bonus of assuring Shadedoak that he had faith in the other tom's abilities.
A silent nod was exchanged as he awaited for his clanmate to take his place. The moments went by slowly, his body still as possible as the rabbit nibbled on something he couldn’t see. Shadedoak swiveled his ears, awaiting Squirrelleap’s signal. Any moment now... he bunched his muscles, stomach fur brushing against the snow just hardly.
Squirrelleap crept closer and closer, and then finally, he was within appropriate distance. He lifted his tail to signal for Shadedoak to get ready and then launched forwards causing a disturbance right behind the rabbit.
The rabbit jumped and hared off in the direction of shadedoak moving quickly as Squirrelleap gave chase driving it towards Shadedoak.
This was different. It didn’t matter really if the rabbit saw him coming. It would be more worried of the other cat chasing it. He darted forward, and soon the rabbit was right in his paws. Shadedoak wrapped his claws around it, quickly dealing a death bite to the neck. His sides heaving and panting.
Squirrelleap let out a purr when Shadedoak caught the rabbit coming to a halt by Shadedoak. "Great job! Now we've got a plump rabbit to feed the clan." The tabby tom said. "The powers of working together as a team, am I right?" He said lightly green eyes gleaming with amusement.
He had to admit, he had originally been pretty gruff. Now that they had caught something, he couldn’t help but find himself smiling from ear to ear. “Thanks..”
