Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Autumngossamer finished applying the last of the powdered colors to her face creating a thick liquid black color lining the edges of her eyes with phoenix autumn colors blooming out with hints of purples and maroons. Despite moving out of SunClan she still made effort to dress herself up everyday. Even if they weren't the same as paints her facial paints had more color variation even if they didn't last longer than a day.
Packing up her supplies she walked out into DayClan's camp, "Would anyone like to come with me flower gathering? I'm thinking of traveling far to find some new kinds if anyone's interested in accompanying me?"
( I know this is old but I think we can still move it up to present day and the timeline isn't messed up xD if you're game?)
Divinefavor heard Autumngossamer's invite but assumed someone else would jump up and volunteer, so she waited... and waited... and no one did. Her heart rate started to pick up ever so slightly when she realized that the question may have just been directed at her, which meant she had to respond and, given that she was literally just laying around in camp soaking up the sun moments before, she had no excuse to avoid this interaction.
"Okay," She responded, stretching to her paws with a big yawn. The older she got, the more strongly she resembled Autumngossamer, the only big difference between the two these days was Divinefavor's one silvered eye and Autumngossamer's body paint, "I'll go."
Autumngossamer almost felt a pit of dread hit her at Divinefavor's acceptance at the invitation. Maybe a part of her hadn't wanted to admit it, but it was possible she avoided the litter more so because they dredged up the worst day of her life. But hopefully it was just anxiety and didn't warp into the nonsensical, I'm anxious of being anxious situation.
"Of course," Autumngossamer said, uncertain of the right words to say, but decided to start out casual, "Are you into flowers or is this your first time gathering them?"
"I've gathered them before for my mothers' graves," Divinefavor mewed bluntly, her expression hollow and tone dry. She wasn't aware that she'd made an awkward statement but did judged pretty quickly by Autumngossamer's expression that it was best to change subjects, so she made an effort to do just that, "But I've never traveled to collect them. Why do you want to find new varieties and what are you going to use them for?
There was a sharp silence that filled the air. But hey, not an unordinary reaction when bringing up dead parents. The silence must of weighed negatively as Divinefavor quickly opted to answer the question more straight forward, but Autumngossamer was quick to answer back, "Your mothers were some of my first friends, it's good to know their graves are being tended," She said simply. There had been a lot of losses this year for her, Windchaser's entire family, including herself, vanished, along with Goldenphantom, Fia, and Princecharming's death. She stuck closer to Lovesmitten lately, but was finding the emotional stability to step outside more. Today was the first day she actually felt emotionally exuberant to the point that she invited socialization. She just didn't expect socialization to restart in her life on hard mode with Divinefavor. But her daughter had wanted to join her. Not. That she was actually her daughter, she didn't raise her, but it was impossible for the word daughter to not come to mind just by physical features alone.
"May is a good time to gather lavender, the petals are plush, like kitten paws, that sort of nurturing softness and the scent is sweet and relaxing like waves. They're good flowers to have in your den. But there is a special flower out this time of year, it's the clematis claire, a large white flower that looks as though a drop of the moon fell to earth and bloomed a flower so be on the look out for those too." Each flower description was loving, leisurely described as the effort it took her to construct a visual image of them was so crystal clear it flowed out from her words with ease. "It's beauty like that that's worth seeing. People come outside to watch a good sunset, but I like to travel to see fading beauties like flowers."
The white-and-ginger she-cat was a bit guarded when Autumngossamer talked about her parents, but thankfully the other she-cat didn't dwell on it long and for that Divinefavor was grateful. She had a lot of unresolved emotions and was not ready to talk about them in depth. As the conversation shifted, the she-cat's shoulders relaxed and odd-eyed gaze softened. In fact, her eyes even began to glimmer.
After her mothers had died, Divinefavor had begun visiting their gravesites every few days, cleaning and decorating them with simple flowers at first. While other cats may have called it lonely, she considered it relaxing and fulfilling, enough to start doing it to various other gravesites scattered throughout the territory. Few were marked but the ones that were had never looked better under Divienfavor's care... not that anyone had noticed.
With this hobby of hers came an unexpected passion for flowers. She didn't know much about them, not even their names. She just found them beautiful, vibrant and lively in a way she'd never been able to grasp for herself. Listening to Autumngossamer describe them so poetically make her paws tremble because she'd found a cat for the first time in her life who seemed just as passionate, maybe even more passionate, about one of her own interests.
But why did it have to be Autumngossamer?
Divinefavor took a deep breath. She was trying to build a bridge between herself and the family she'd once rejected. No, it wasn't going to be easy, but it would never get better if she didn't put herself out there.
"You really know a lot about flowers," She began tentatively, "I know most of the ones in DayClan, but none of their names. You'll have to... umm, teach me sometime. If you know them anyway. On that note, let's get going."
Autumngossamer picked her her way through the tall stalks of wheat that waved above their heads with the same relaxing rhythm as ocean waves softly meeting the shores. They didn't need to carry their paws long before they met the actual shoreline of Cherry Cove. The usual hot sand didn't blister due to the light only toasting the land. Now the water brought warm summer breezes to the territory, but luckily Autumngossamer didn't seem to stop to enjoy, only taking the scenic path into rogue country.
The quiet made her mind wander down the mental mindless paths that she had never walked before. Like what life would have been like if she had known of her daughters existence. Would it ever have changed a thing? The moment she knew the Sun God had killed her kits all she wanted was her revenge. She took Harv and Sweet back despite knowing the Sun Gods hatred, she probably would have done the same if she knew she had more kits... And if she had decided to stop the pregnancy before it had hardly begun. In the past she found fury, weakness, humiliation about having kits, but in truth, if she had given up on the pregnancy she would never had stood up to the Sun God. Her kits gave her a mothers wrath, a realization that she would never let them live in the world she had lived in. In a weird way her kits would never truly understand just how much they changed the world just by being born.
Up ahead were the lavender bushes, thick and overly grown. There were bunches of the lavender huddled together, the sweet scent pouring over their noses. The lavender stretched for so far it almost appeared like a maze.
"You know, I could dig a little, probably make us some lavender tea if I find an underground hot springs," Autumngossamer offered.
The silence was a double-edge sword. On one paw, Divinefavor was enjoying the pleasant weather and beautiful territory but, on the other, she was nervous just what Autumngossamer would do next. It was weird, she'd gone on patrols like this with all kinds of DayClan cats, even the more wicked ones, but never had she been so nervous one-on-one. Her worry was soothed somewhat when she picked up the soothing aroma of lavender although predictably it wouldn't last long.
"L... lavender tea? I can't say I've ever had that," DayClan was famous for its cooking, but Divinefavor herself had never taken the time to learn the skill herself, nor did she seek any delicacies, "Last I checked, DayClan didn't have any springs, though. If you want it that bad we'll have to go to SunClan and I don't think I need to tell you how bad an idea that is."
"Well we're not in DayClan anymore, we're in rogue country and out here when we're beside the ocean we're in desert territory, same as SunClan's rogue lands. So you never know, there might be a hot springs," She said, but seemed to lose the effort of bothering to find one. Divinefavor didn't sound interested, probably more skeptical if anything so it was better to move on.
Looking in any direction that wasn't Divinefavor her eyes landed on a purple flower creeping below a large stone, almost like it had its own tiny den, "Oh!" Autumngossamer exclaimed aloud, her eyes shining brightly as she made her way towards it, "I've never seen one like this before. Purples a bit rare, blue would have been even rarer. Would you like to take a look or do you not care? I've been worrying that you're a bit bored with this activity," Autumngossamer admitted rapidly, her eyes widening at the end, why did she over share all of that?
Gazing up at the sky there were grey angry clouds moving in, "Maybe it's best that we gather all the flowers we want out here and make it back or at least half way back," She suggested.
Divinefavor's ears flicked back in discomfort as Autumngossamer first stated the obvious - that they weren't in DayClan anymore - then had to physically stop herself from taking a step back when she commented that she seemed seemed bored. She wasn't bored, she was actually having as good a time, at least as good a time as she could have when alone with Autumngossamer... was it she herself that was being boring? She was really trying to stay positive and get along with her mother but it seemed she was one blow away from striking out.
"Forget it," She said bluntly, third strike. This wasn't what Divinefavor wanted. She enjoyed the mystery of the purple flower and the prospect of finding more she'd never seen before; however, she was feeling an overwhelming sense of pressure to be someone she ones not. Someone who was friendly and approachable, someone who was interesting and engaging, but it was becoming all too clear that she'd fallen short same as she always did. Her default in moments like this was to shut down and distance herself from it all, she couldn't help it.
Divinefavor felt tears of frustration well up in the back of her eyes but she starved them off by sheer willpower, absolutely unwilling to let Autumngossamer see her cry especially over something so ridiculously stupid as whatever this was, "Let's just get the flowers you want and go."
Her inner teenager almost lurched herself to a stop at Divinefavor's words. The kind of reaction of, well now that you told me to, I'm not going to do it. Growing up never seemed to get rid of that inner rebel feeling to not do what someone told her to. But Divine, despite how much distance they put on themselves, was still her blood related daughter. Which meant she was basically going to be intolerable for the first few years just as she had. At least Divine didn't join a cult for the promise of superiority.
Grabbing the last flowers she turned back around, returning to Divinefavor to walk back. Lucky for Divinefavor she couldn't talk much having as many flowers as she did in her mouth. However when the rain began to come down before they had a chance to even get halfway home Autumn motioned for Divinefavor to start looking around for shelter as they walked. DayClan's flatlands allowed for flooding to happen easily, especially when their path back happened to be near the ocean. It would be safer to find shelter at higher grounds than to continue any further.
Stopping abruptly she spotted a large stack of stones in the thicker part of the woods. It might have a leaky roof, but the forest would be able to prevent much of the rain water. Gesturing with her head to follow her Autumngossamer ventured over to the stones inspecting the entrance for any snakes before first placing the flowers inside, "It's safe."
Divinefavor was both grateful and annoyed by the silence that followed her little outburst. She respected that Autumngossamer was giving her space and time, which is sort of what she had asked for in a roundabout way, but she also couldn't help but feel guilty and childish. She knew she was being both of those things but couldn't help it. She was her own worst enemy.
The ginger-and-white she-cat was deep in thought until the first icy cold raindrop struck her nose, which brought her out of her head in an instant. She blinked and glanced toward Autumngossamer and began to follow even before being beckoned. Being stuck in a tiny shelter while the rain passed wasn't ideal, of course, but it was better than getting wet.
"I... wonder how this shelter came to be," Divinefavor offered awkwardly then immediately began grooming herself. She didn't really know what to say but as long as she controlled the topic things would be okay... probably.
Autumngossamer gave the shelter an up and down look as though she were judging someone's new feather before letting out a slight tsk, "It's probably made by two-legs, yeah, I don't know what their thing is, they really like moving things around, including entire pieces of land. I mean two-leg place wasn't always in DayClan, they trampled the land and put it there."
As she guessed the rain chattered on, but each drop the leaked in revealed a brighter shade of blue that almost seemed to illuminate from its hue alone. A flower rose from the back of the stone structure, royal blues flourishing to reveal something of a rose. Long vines of thorns almost seemed to move, reacting to the rain water as it seemed to relinquish a path as they rolled back into the dark sections of the shelter.
"And like honestly, we talk about rabbits getting a bit chaotic with breeding, but I swear this world has more two-legs than we know how to deal with it, like-" Autumngossamer almost continued, but if there was one thing she could notice it was when the attention was no longer on her. Checking behind her she spotted the royal blue flower, "OHH! Wow, I've never seen this one, too pretty to pluck, I mean if I leave it, maybe more will grow," She said in wonder.
Neither knew it, but the flower was more than pretty, it possessed the ability to force the truth out of others by its aroma.
(sure, sounds like fun! I don't think I'm ready to voice Divine's true thoughts but LET'S GOOO!)
"It really is beautiful. I'd love to take it back to Fia and Goldenstar's graves, but you're probably right, it's best to leave something like this alone so more can grow," Divinefavor said, surprised by her sudden honestly. Normally she'd just dismissively agree and leave it at that, but for some reason she added more color to her thoughts, an openness she reserved strictly for Harvestcharm and even then only rarely. She'd need to do some quick damage control so Autumngossamer didn't get the wrong idea about the two of them getting closer or something, "Just forgot about what I said about the graves. I don't want you to know that I tend to them. I don't what you to try and get close to me by sharing my interests with you. I'm not---"
Divinefavor put her paws over her mouth and had a very pained expression on her face, likely more emotion that Autumngossamer had ever seen grace the she-cat's features, outside of rage, of course. She looked scared and embarrassed.
"I don't know what's going on but I didn't mean to say any of that! I would never be that open to you!"
