“Yeah so this queen just came up to me while I was hunting and said she wanted to see you,” Dragonfly mewed as he led his father on. “Had a bunch of kittens with her for some reason. Maybe you’re friends?”
Dragonfly had been having... a hard time lately. But this one task had him cheered up for the moment and he was grateful. “She’s waiting forever you right up here.” He stopped and gestured with his tail to a secluded cluster of dense ferns.
Behind them, someone was waiting — not a queen, but Ghostcrown, amusing himself already with the plan to lure his friend out.

"Oh Sun God, not again" he groaned, looking to Dragonfly with a pretty unhappy expression. Since Ladybug had died in his arms, and being stuck in the nursery helping out Lionpride with their combined 12 kits, he had been rather tame in the whole fling department. He didn't even have time to consider it. But having random kits tossed at him that he didn't even remember had become so commonplace that he really didn't even doubt that they were his "Think if I ignore them, they will go away?" he glanced nervously at the bushes before racing back behind Dragonfly and pushing him forward towards the bushes "Now go be a good son and deal with this for your dad. I have to get back to the nursery"
“Not this time, Dad,” Dragonfly told him, fighting not to laugh. “This old partner of yours is pretty persistent.” He reached back to nuzzle Honeysplash affectionately; then he leaned down and grabbed him by the scruff, straining and unceremoniously dragging his father past the barrier, giving him one last hard shove.
“Wow,” Ghostcrown mewed dryly when he saw the tom tumble into sight, “I see you’re happy to see me. I’m sorry to tell you I didn’t bring any kits. Maybe next time.”

"Hey, lets not be to hasty!!!" he protested as he was lifted off the ground by Dragonfly. He was so small that it really wasn't all that big of a feet. Honeysplash probably could have gotten out of it, but he didn't want to hurt his son. "Come on now, you don't want to do this" he pleaded as he was unceremonious dumped at the feet of a cat. He looked up nervously, only to laugh when he realize who it was hovering above him
"Ghostcrown!! Now aren't you a sight for sore eyes" he purred, scrambling to his feet "What are you doing all the way back out here?"
Ghostcrown grinned, finding himself filled with relief that Honeysplash didn’t hate him. He had hoped his friend would trust him but after his exile he wasn’t so sure.
“It’s good to see you again,” the black tom laughed. “I came to see you, actually. I wanted to thank you for looking after my kits while I was gone. And,” he hesitated, “Dragonfly told me what happened... I’m so sorry about your daughter, Honeysplash.” He remembered the agony he’d felt when he lost Raypaw. He didn’t want any other cat to go through that.

"It wasn't much...." trailing off at the mention of his daughter. It was still a sore spot for him. Just the mention bringing back the memory of the life fading from her eyes as he was helpless to stop it. His face paled, before he shook his head "Thank you, it was... tragic" there wasn't a whole lot left to say, she was gone and it was all his fault. Littlestar had confirmed it, the food he had given her had been the cause of her death.
Ghostcrown watched him, his eyes soft and understanding. "For a while, I thought I lost Raypaw," he admitted quietly. "I felt so alone. It was my fault, I should have been there for her, and I wasn't. I was lucky that she was alive, in the end . . . but for a long time I was in a dark place."
He touched his muzzle to the top of Honeysplash's head, gently reassured him, letting the other tom feel his presence. "If you need any help, anything at all, come talk to me," Ghostcrown murmured.

Honeysplash nodded "so Ray did make it?" he chirpped, looked up at his friend with a big grin. Anything really to move on, as he tried to push those thoughts away. Keeping himself busy was the only way to make it bearable, so perhaps he should have counted his blessings. The little tom purred "I spoke with Devotedcrow not to long ago and found out she was alive, but that her injuries were bad and they were not sure if she was going to make it or not"
Ghostcrown nodded, stepping back with his eyes shining. “She’s alive and she’s... great,” he assured. “As fiery as ever. Keeping her brother in line. I can’t see them anymore, not now, but I hope they’re okay. They must be. They’re strong together.”

"Why can't you see them?" he gasped, rather confused by the statement. After all he saw Devotedcrow quite often, so why couldn't their father? IT didn't make a lot of sense in his mind, unless it was the kits that had decided.... "Did you have a fight?"
He shook his head. "Devotedcrow is a deputy now, can you believe it?" Ghostcrown's eyes shimmered with pride. "Of SummerClan. He's going to be so great! But he has to prove his loyalty to the clan first, so he can't see any outsiders for a few moons. That includes family." He paused and slipped into a frown. "Especially family."
As proud as he was, as casually as he spoke, Ghostcrown's pain was evident. He missed his son. They had only just started to reconnect...

Honeysplash nodded, glad that Devotedcrow had made something of himself but understanding the sadness in his friend's voice to "That will be difficult for both of you, but I hope that in the end that you will be able to be reunited once again" it wasn't much but it was a little something for him to look foreward to "I'm sure that once he has prove his loyalties he will be glad to see you again... He loves you a lot, you know?"
Ghostcrown nodded once, a tiny affirmation, the best he could offer while he pulled himself together. He let himself be reassured, pushing away his fears that Devotedcrow was too far gone, that their frayed relationship would never be mended. A part of him wished he could have gone with him and joined SummerClan... but he couldn't leave his other son and daughter behind, not after they had stuck with him so long. SwiftClan wasn't his home either, but it was the closest thing he had right now.
"I hope so," he murmured. "I want to make things right. I've never going to have more kits, and- I don't want any if they're just going to distract me from the family I have. But I just... I screwed up so bad, and he's trying to forgive me, but I don't know that he can."

"Just give him some time and space. No one is perfect, not you and not him. All you can do not is be there for him once he is ready. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to let them go, even if its also the hardest thing" Honeysplash sighed, thinking about his daughter whom had disappeared during everything, the daughter he had lost, and now the insane number of kits who just wouldn't leave him alone
Ghostcrown pushed away his doubts for now. He was giving him time, and he just had to hope it would be enough.
"Yeah. Yeah," he repeated, firmly. "You're right." He paused; then, in an attempt to lighten the mood: "then again, should I really be taking parenting advice from you?"
