Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She laughed. "Oh, no, nothing like that," she meowed quickly. "We just met under some... particular circustances. Between you and me, I'm worried about looking him in the eye again." She laughed again with a shake of her head. It had been eventful, that was for sure. "But as for tension, he's a good guy. SwiftClan are good people, from what I understand." Chaotic and kind of a garbage fire, but good people.
With a nod, she then moved towards the camp. "How is the Guard treating you? I hope Phantomfox hasn't been too hard on you?" she asked, raising a brow. She had told the captain to go easy on her until she had completed more of her training, but Phantomfox wasn't really one to listen to her unless he decided it was his idea.
“Oh?” She asks, voice dripping with curiosity. “I feel like I wanna know, but at the same time I really don’t know if I want to know.” She jokes around, listening more about Swiftclan. “Didn’t they make camp in an abandoned twoleg place?” The thought sends a shudder down her spine. The idea of twolegs scared her more than almost anything else.
“Phantomfox has been just fine.” She purrs with a soft laugh. “I think he’s had a million other things on his mind, rather than picking on the newbie.” From what Larkspur had gathered so far, the forefront of his mind was filled with kick pinesimmer’s ass, Foxkit, his past, and his mate. She was good at observing and listening, which were her strongest suits. The Loyal Guard was a bit of a dumpster fire themselves, but nothing Larkspur wasn’t happy to go along with. “How are you doing Aspenstar? Are you okay?” The question was genuine.
"If you want to know, I can tell you," she meowed with a casual shrug. "Just keep it beween you and me, alright? I've been trying to keep it from Pinesimmer for a hot minute, and Phantomfox is sworn to secrecy, so if he finds out, I'll know it was you." Aspenstar let out a laugh at her own joke - she honestly couldn't see Larkspur telling her brother anything. The two didn't seem like they were friends much after their square off during her promotion.
"The first time Cradle and I met, somehow we got to talking about fishing, which led to both of us going fishing. I can't fish, honest to god, I'll never be able to. But, when Cradlegrave, who had never fished in his life, caught one on the first try, I may or may not have gotten a little prideful. Turns out there's a goldfish the size of a badger that lives in the water, and let's just say, the goldfish and I do not get along. It was a rodeo and a half until I was half-drown and Cradlegrave saved me. It's more a pride thing than anything," she meowed with a shake of her head. It had been precisely one week into her leadership, and it wasn't really her best look.
"Good, I'm glad to hear that," she then meowed. "I don't know if he told you this, but you impressed him the night of your ceremony. Pinesimmer tests all of our nerves, and he was impressed at how well you kept your own." Aspenstar wasn't sure that Phantomfox would have given her that piece of information; he wasn't the best at complimenting good performance. She blinked her mismatched eyes, before offering a shrug. "Oh, you know," she meowed, her tail sweeping across the floor. "There's always trouble in paradise," she meowed with an uncertain chuckle, "but it's been better for the most part." This really wasn't a lie; other than her Phantomfox situation, things had gotten better for her. "I'm hoping New Leaf brings good things for all of us. We deserve a break."
She can't keep the grimace from her face at the thought of actually approaching Pinesimmer, let alone telling him anything that Aspenstar asked to be kept a secret. "With all due respect, gross." Larkspur was in fact ready to fight him at any given moment. The she-cat still didn't understand how the two were related, nor how Aspenstar had managed not to murder him yet. Truly, it was a mystery.
"I'm -- not gonna have to fight that thing right? That's not why we're going to Swiftclan I hope?" Badger sized goldfish? No thank you! "Starclan must've granted you superpowers to have gotten out of that one with any lives intact." Obviously, Larkspur didn't know that Aspenstar had lost a life, but she had at least one under her sleeve since she was here to tell the tale. "I'm glad he saved you." She meows with a dip of her head, walking forward in silence for a few moments.
Larkspur blushes under her fur at the compliment, her blue eyes falling to the ground. "I've been embarrassed since that night," she admits, taking a second to gather her thoughts. "I'm usually not so quick to anger. Most of the time, I'm rather unbothered by insults, but I was more upset by the fact he was insulting your choice than insulting me." Another admittance she hadn't been expecting to give, but now it was out in the open air between them. "I respect you and your leadership. I might feel undeserving of this position, but that is between me and my thoughts, not for Pinesimmer to scream in front of the clan. He had no right to question anything that night."
"Newleaf should bring good things." Larkspur purrs, mind wandering to the thought of kittens. It was her favorite part of Newleaf, besides the abundance of prey. It meant prosperity for the clan, and a time where there wouldn't be so much struggle. "I wonder what the change in weather will bring for us."
Aspenstar laughed out loud at the she-cat's words. "I couldn't have said it better myself," she meowed with a grin. "I'd like to say he wasn't always as big of a pain in the ass as he is now, but I'd be lying. He's just gotten... louder and more verbal to other cats outside the family since I rose to leader. I think he didn't like that he was no longer always the center of attention."
She twitched her whiskers in amusement before letting out another chuckle. "Between you and me, I hope I never have to deal with it again. NightClan and our Mega-Goldfish? Not exactly friends." She winced slightly at the mention of lives, although she quickly tried to cover that reaction up. She still had eight more, right? She was practically invincible, and one day, when she was old and grey and recounting all of the lives she had lost, at least she could guarantee one would be a good story.
I'm glad he saved you. This was the first thing that Larkspur had ever said to her that made her pause for just a moment. It was a kind thing to say, and Aspenstar felt like there was probably something behind it. What, she couldn't tell, and she knew she wouldn't ask. After all, she could rationalize it as something that any good guard member would say, right? "I appreciate you saying that," she meowed after a moment. A small smile crept across her face. "It means more than you know."
She tipped her head as the she-cat continued. She had been more offended at Pinesimmer's doubting of Aspenstar? That gave her pause - most of the cats in the clan had just assumed that that was his one job and to just ignore him. It made her feel something, although she couldn't exactly tell what. "I needed someone to stand up to him," she admitted with a sudden solemness in her voice. "Just a few hours before your ceremony, he told me I was the cause of Oakleaf's death." She didn't know why the words tumbled out. "So... it was nice to see that someone other than Phantomfox was willing to tell him to back off, you know?" She blinked a couple times, before shrugging, apparently not sure how to continue after that hint of truth.
"I am hoping that it brings us new kittens," she meowed with a flick of her tail. "Our apprentice class is quite large, but our overall numbers are quite low compared to the others." They were starting to get close to SwiftClan territory, as they were nestled between the ForestClans and Primal Instinct. "I have a feeling it will bring us peace, too, at least some. Phantomfox and I visit Littlestar in a week from tonight. He's become... friends " if you could call them that "with Glowstar, so I really hope the new season brings peace for once to the Forest altogether." It probably wouldn't, but she could hope.
"Ah, so he's always been a child." Larkspur shakes her head with a short laugh. "I couldn't even put up with him long enough to get a hunting trip done, I couldn't imagine being born with him. That's some superstar strength right there." Larkspur would've ripped her ears off if she'd had to have that sort of presence in her life, more than she already had to deal with in her position.
The black feline's fur heats up, her skin prickling. She realized how her comments sounded, now that they'd been spoken out loud. Subconsciously she allows distance to fall between them, hoping she hadn't made the other too uncomfortable by her words. Larkspur was just being honest, but her honesty had a tendency of putting her heart on her sleeve.
"The clan comes first, and as leader, I feel like your decisions should be respected and trusted." Larkspur swallows quickly, feeling her throat go dry as she opened her gay mouth again. "I don't care that he's your punk brother, he also shouldn't speak to you like that. No one should speak to anyone like that," she throws in, hoping to cover her tracks a bit. She was really doing poorly at this whole covering-up-your-unrequited-crush thing. Larkspur's head snaps back to look at Aspenstar, and she could feel the anger that pitted in her stomach. "The next time Phantomfox breaks his legs I'll join." she says without hesitation. "I'm sorry Aspenstar. He's a piece of rotting meat."
Soon the conversation had shifted again, and Larkspur took a second to compose herself. She smiles at the thought of little ones running around. "I'm sure it will. I hope we don't come across too many parentless ones this season." The she-cat finds her mind wandering, feeling as though they would. "I hope that goes well." she nods once, yawning softly. Larkspur had never walked this long before, but she was surprised at how quickly the hours flew by.
[div style="text-align:justify;"We hoped he'd grow out of it. He never grew out of it," she meowed with a bemused shake of her head. She then blinked at the thought of her littermates. Her jaw clenched slightly; there were now two dead, one she was unsure of the whereabouts, and then Pinesimmer. Who would have thought, Pine and Aspen would be the last men standing? "I loved my brothers, but boy, they drove a cat to eat catnip back in the day. Four brothers, not something I'd recommend much." She let out a laugh, although now, there was always a hint of pain when she described her siblings as a unit. "Luckily, the others sort of tempered him out. I'm pretty sure if it was just me and him, one of us wouldn't have made it this far."
Aspenstar noticed the hesitation in her voice, and the leader's gaze focused on Larkspur. "Something wrong?" she asked, her blue and green eyes both flecked with a slight concern. "Your inflection changed," she then meowed to clarify. Reading inflections was something that she was once profound at; it was a critical skill in conflict negotiation, and, well, there had been plenty of that growing up. "You'd tell me if there was, mm?" she then continued, allowing Larkspur an out if she wasn't feeling having a therapy session in the middle of a hike. She rested her tail on the other's shoulder, a quick movement, but a touch all the same. She was notoriously unfond of touch, but sometimes, she couldn't help it. "Thank you for saying that," she then meowed, offering a nod. "Someone's gotta," she then added, a touch of brevity.
"It either will or it won't," she meowed with a shrug. "There are some things that are completely out of my control. These factors may leave us forever at odds with the other group." There was history, there, that was for sure, history that the leader didn't even fully understand herself. "At least when we go, we'll know for sure, right?"
ok i lied i need lark to respond to this one first then cradleboy can come LMAO
Larkspur smiles fondly as Aspenstar speaks on her siblings though she knew it was likely hard for her to do so as well. Pinesimmer being the last sibling with Aspenstar felt strange, but she wasn't going to comment on that for sure. Larkspur never knew if she had any siblings, though she hadn't in her litter. She could've had some from her rogue father, but who knew.
"Oh, nothing's wrong." She reassures, though through her mind she was silently screaming at herself. Calm down. Chill out. She is your LEADER. In her life, Larkspur had never held any emotions towards another cat that weren't neutral. This newfound attraction was starting to drive her a little off the deep end. She'd never had to handle emotions like this, much less for someone she found herself considering a close friend. "I'd tell you. I trust you." she smiles, giving her a quick head nod. Her heart nearly stopped at the touch, it was unexpected but pleasant all the same.
"I'm really a bit nervous to go." she admits. A huge part of her being screamed that she wanted to look after camp when the party left for Sunclan, but another part knew she was better at negotiating than some of the guard members, and would likely need to keep things in check. "But I hope all will go well."
"Good," she meowed, her voice softer than it had been the moment before. Larkspur needed to trust her, just as much as Aspenstar needed to trust Larkspur. "If something becomes wrong," she meowed with a flick of her tail, giving the other cat an option, "and there's something I can do to help remedy the problem, let me know, okay?"
She then tilted her head. "Things will go exactly how they are supposed to," she meowed, although it was clear that she agreed with the she-cat. It was then that the leader began to slow down. Over the horizon, the amusement park could be seen. She'd only heard about it from the scout she had sent to deliver the herb to SwiftClan, but she'd never seen something quite like it before. Her eyes locked on the ferris wheel, and she came to a complete hault, absolutely fascinated by the giant wheel in the sky.
"I suppose this means we're here," she meowed, her eyes still very wide. "Never seen something quite like this." SwiftClan had made pretty decent for themselves, compared to when they slept in the ditch. Aspenstar was almost proud of the borderline joke of a clan. "They only recently settled here. Quite the place, it looks like," she meowed, before taking a few steps further. In a normal clan, Aspenstar might wait on the border. However, SwiftClan was a lot like DayClan. Cats showed up as they pleased and no one really asked questions. Plus, Aspenstar's scout had given Cradlegrave the heads up that she would be coming.
Cradlegrave, a while up ahead, caught the faintest scent of NightClan lingering on the breeze. "That'll be the visitin' party," he said, and rose up on all four paws from his waiting spot. He walked in the direction of the scent, and eventually caught sight of the shape of two cats--Aspenstar and Larkspur, almost certainly. Don't mention the fish thing. Don't mention the fish thing. Don't mention the fish thing, he thought as he approached.
...He didn't think he could open his mouth without mentioning the fish thing, so he gave a grunt of acknowledgement and dipped his head once they were within hearing range.
i only skimmed the thread so apologies in advance if i screw something up LMAO
The scent of an unfamiliar clan quickly hit Larkspur’s nose, just before she saw all the twoleg contraptions. Her fur bristles in slight fear of the unfamiliar, but she forces herself to calm down before the Swiftclan leader makes his way to them. A smile graces her muzzle that doesn’t quite reach her eyes, likely due to her nerves surrounding the all too new situation.
“Cradlegrave?” She asks, dipping her head in a returned meeting. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for having us.” She then takes a step back, staying lose enough to Aspenstar that their fur could brush. While she didn’t see this cat as a threat at all, her first instinct was to protect her love- uh leader. Yeah. That.
biyuu ☆彡 @ian ty for ur patience pals it’s been a hell of a week
Aspenstar was almost amused by the way the loyal guard almost clung to her. Phantomfox must have taught her that, the be clear that you are ready to jump into the line of fire immediately if necessary body language. It was the same body language he used when he thought there was a chance he would need to protect her. Little did Aspenstar know, there was a little more to it than that, on probably both of those other cats' sides.
"Cradlegrave!" she greeted with a smile. "I'm glad we can meet today under much... drier circumstances," she meowed with a chuckle and a wink, clearly trying to ease the tension before it had a chance to settle. "This," she nodded to the black feline along her side, "is Larkspur." She glanced back at the territory, awe still glistening in her eye. "Quite the place you've found here, mm? Better than living in a ditch, I take it?"
