Guppykit had awoken at dawn with a plan in place and determination in his youthful face. The young cat was five moons old today. And because he was big now, he was going to learn to swim.
At two moons old Twisterdestruction had explained what his name meant - a guppy was a small fish. So, Guppykit had found himself dreaming of swimming, of gliding through the water. And now he wanted to learn. As the sun began peeking into camp the lithe little cat prowled out of the nursery and towards the entrance, hardly daring to breathe.

Coming back from the dirt place, Fisherkit saw his denmate, Guppykit, heading toward the camp's entrance. Wondering what he was up to, he came trotting over to greet him. "Hi!" he meowed cheerfully, not realizing his friend was in stealth mode. "Whatcha doing so early?"

Guppykit jumped at the voice, fur fluffed in momentary terror. When he realized Fisherkit had walked right up to him, he shook his fur out and gave his denmate a hurt look, "hey! You blew my cover!" Covertly, the tom dropped to his belly and rolled off to the left, into the still-shadowy part of camp. "Come on then!" He mewed, once standing again.

"Sorry," he mewed, looking around to see if any cat had spotted them. Then he quickly followed Guppykit to the shadowed area. "Who are you hiding from?" he asked. He figured some she-kit was bothering him. Many had done so to him in the past. They can be so annoying!
Guppykit's stealth mission had not gone unnoticed by Sunkit, who was sunning herself outside Ratstar's den, but she hadn't felt compelled to intervene in his shenanigans. She was above that-- until Fisherkit appeared, and together the pair darted off to the shade-dappled fringes of camp, and she squinted. What were they plotting? Perhaps her loyal knight was turning on her, devising a coup. That was worth finding out.
She rose from her spot and slunk across to where she'd seen them disappear to, her steps quiet and precise. "Well, well, well, what's going on here?" Sunkit voiced the question with a great deal of suspicion, gazing between the pair of tom-kits.

Guppykit opened his mouth to answer Fisherkit, only to hear Sunkit's voice. "Mousedung," he growled, kneading his tiny claws into the earth. "Nothing's going on, Sunkit. I'm just on a mission, okay?" Which wasn't going to happen if the leader's daughter found out. And Fisherkit was nice, but was he willing to sneak off? What a mess.

Fisherkit turned when he heard Sunkit's mew. She was fun to play with sometimes while other times she could be downright annoying. This time seemed like the latter to Fisherkit. A mission sounded like a fun thing to do. There was only so much a kit can do in the camp to keep from being bored but this idea was interesting. From Guppykit's reply, he sensed that he didn't want Sunkit involved. 'Mousedung' was a pretty strong word for a kit to say so he figured Guppykit was displeased.
"This mission is only for toms," Fisherkit mewed, not knowing what the mission really was but he was hoping to dissuade Sunkit from coming along.

Guppykit had a feeling that wouldn't deter the always-difficult Sunkit, but still he nodded and added, "sorry, Sunkit. Ain't nothing against you, we just need a small group going out."
The friendly tom didn't like lying, or dodging the company of others, but he couldn't risk Sunkit telling anyone about their mission. His mission. Fisherkit was kind of an accident in this but he liked him so he wasn't about to argue the other kit's presence.
Sunkit was about to argue, or taunt something like 'I'll be sure to tell Ratstar,' but she was abruptly cut off by a glint of gold shouldering past. "Yeah, Sunkit. Spot's taken," sneered Pikekit acidly. Normally good-humored, there was something about the pointed she-cat that got under his skin, and he made it clear. Sunkit huffed and stalked off, tail lashing.
Pikekit then turned to regard Fisherkit and Guppykit. "You can't be nice to everyone," he said with a shrug. "But..do you mind if I tag along? I was mostly lying... but whatever you're doing sounds more fun than...whatever I'll probably end up doing."

Fisherkit was glad to see Pikekit arrive and was pleased he got Sunkit to give up. He watched Sunkit saunter off and wondered why she gave up so easily. It wasn't like her and he felt a little guilty chasing her away. She was a friend after all. He decided he'd spend sometime with her later on.
Turning to Guppykit, he mewed, "So tell us about this mission. I don't know anything about it but doing something different sounds exciting." Anything at all would be wonderful to break up the monotony of his existence.

[ thank you everyone for patience and understanding, the end of 2020 literally threw anything it could at me. I'm sorry for the slow activity ]
Relieved with Pikekit's entrance he nodded enthusiastically, "yeah of course ya can come." Of course, no one but him was supposed to be going, but it looked like he as getting some company anyway. "Okay, I'm gonna find the beach and I'm gonna learn to swim, today."
Just saying it out loud made him knead the dirt with excitement, imagine when his mentor asked him if he could swim! He'd be an expert already.
Pikekit tilted his head at Guppykit's plan, a clearly quizzical expression befalling him. "Swim? That sounds like fun!" Barring the fact that he wasn't sure any of them could swim and that definitely would not result in anything bad happening at all, he was elated at the idea of getting out of camp and doing something cool. "Let's go then!"

Fisherkit began bouncing around excitedly. "Yes! Count me in! I always wanted to see what it's like outside the camp." He wasn't too sure about the swimming part but he was all for the adventure of it all. Then settling down a bit, he looked about the camp. "But how're we gonna get out?" His eyes fell on a cat coming back from the dirt place. "Over there?" he asked.

Guppykit was pleased that his friends were as eager as he, his excitement surging back up and his tail waving. "Yeah!" Guppykit padded towards the dirt place with easy confidence, "this is perfect. We'll go in one at a time, count to 30 and then the next one can sneak in. We'll meet up on the outside of the wall, okay?"

"Okay!" Fisherkit mewed with a confidence born from excitement. "I can go in first." After starting to walk, he stopped as a thought came to his mind. What if some cat is still using the dirt place? Thinking quickly he came up with a solution. "If there's another cat in there, I'll say out loud, 'It really stinks in here' then you'll know to wait for them to come out and if I'm alone I'll say, 'All's clear!' " He slipped inside and to his relief no other cat was using the dirt place. "All's clear!" he called out to his friends before squeezing under a bush that bordered the dirt place.
Pikekit slipped into the dirtplace following Fisherkit's call, then hung back for the 30 seconds Guppykit decided on. He wrinkled his nose at the scents, which were mostly faded but still nasty nonetheless, and quickly scrambled out once he finished his mental count. "Alright, I'm out! C'mon, Guppykit!"

Guppykit watched his companions as they went, hardly believing the reality he was faced with. He was about to break a big rule, all to achieve a goal he would eventually accomplish with warrior training anyway. And he was now dragging two others in this with him. Was it worth it? Absolutely! The small cat darted into the dirtplace and followed the others under the bush and officially out of camp.
"Wow!" Guppykit chirped, shaking his fur out and looking around, "we made it!"

Fisherkit waved his tail for silence to his two friends. "Shhh!" he hissed softly. "Look." Two black ears and a black tail were visible above some tall grasses. It would have looked kind of funny to Fisherkit to see those body parts seemingly float along if it weren't for the seriousness of their situation. He ducked down to be better hidden.
Pantherclaw was coming back to the camp carrying a black bird in her mouth. As she walked along, she was blissfully unaware of the wayward kits. Fortunately for the kits, the bird she carried blocked out their scents otherwise they would have been surely caught. A few more steps and she rounded a corner of the wall and disappeared inside the camp entrance.
"That was close," gasped Pikekit after Pantherclaw entered the camp, their presence on the outside still undetected but only by chance. "We're gonna have to be more careful than that! We should stick to the bushes and stay away from the path the warriors use," he suggested, glancing between Guppykit and Fisherkit. His eyes trailed across to the brush surrounding them, wanting to marvel at the beauty of the unknown, but he felt anxious and unsure knowing at any moment they could be caught.

"You're right," Fisherkit agreed with Pikekit. "The last thing we want to happen is to get caught." Their adventure was just starting. It would be awful if it were to end so quickly. "So where is this place at where you want to swim?" he asked Guppykit. "Did some cat tell you how to get to it?" He looked around at his surroundings bewildered. The land outside the camp was so huge. He didn't know which direction to go. How do new apprentices ever learn this new land?
