As Smokecloud painted his story, the black and white queen blinked slowly, her eyes wide and intense as she pictures the vivid words in her mind. What a life the tom lived and no one would have ever guessed it. Frankly, Mossbreeze was shocked. She would have never expected for the tom to have gone through what he had based on the way he carried himself. As intimidating as his unique features made him, he always carried himself with quiet grace and thoughtfulness. It left the queen with strong feelings of respect. She could never imagine going through what the grey tom did and still come out respectful and peaceful of mind and soul like Smokecloud is.
"What a story." Mossbreeze breathed, giving away the blatant awe she felt, her eyes still bright and large in wonder "And to see you here today stand as the warrior you are... you must be very proud of yourself." Her words were genuine and heartfelt as she stared on "I certainly feel very proud of how far you've come."
He warmed under his fur with embarrassment at her compliments. "Thank you" he chuckled, darting his gaze. "So, uh, what's your story?" He knew she was sensitive about her past and who the father was to her kits but he hoped that since he told his story, maybe her's wouldn't seem so hard to tell. "Its okay if you want to keep that secret. I understand."
When asked her story, Mossbreeze couldn't help but shrug off indifferently, though her heart began to race in her chest. She was conflicted in how she wanted to respond to the inquiry. It was unsettling to truly open up for the queen. It came natural for her to place her own emotions and self on the sidelines for others and her clan mates, so much so that her clan mates never truly questioned her truest thoughts and feelings. It was the first time someone had the forwardness to truly get to know her and she didn't know how to register it.
Smokecloud's consideration snapped the queen out of her internal conflict. She stared wide eyed the tom as a mixture of emotions took over her mind. There was waves of relief, knowing that she was safe to continue to hide away. There was also waves of content, know that she was in a safe place to reveal her heart and mind. The conflict of the two emotions left her dumbfounded and confused within her self.
With a soft sigh and a warm smile, the queen proceeded "Thank you for understanding Smokecloud." She started gently, her pale green eyes falling for a moment before rising back up, narrowing slightly with powerful purpose. "I led a rather normal life, being clan born." She started calmly, smiling to herself as she reminisced of her kithood. "I grew up so trusting of those around me, probably too much because it eventually led me to trust someone I should have not..." She hesitated before sighing and pressing on. She knew she had to learn to trust her gut and her gut said she was safe. "His name was Baron." She looked on, forcing the confidence in her voice as she bared her soul. "He was wonderful and charming and exuded all the confidence I dreamed to be." She admitted, her eyes tailing off as the image of the tom grew in her mind "I wanted to learn more, be better and I thought getting closer to him would help me achieve that even if it went against the code.
"But things changed when I fell in love- or what I thought was love." She breathed, correction herself rather sternly "I thought he would be happy, as happy as he was getting to know me. I had hoped he would change his way of life for the better and join Springclan because in my mind that was the right choice, but I failed to realize that he had other plans, other intentions." She stopped abruptly, feeling her lip quiver with a powerful wave of emotions but she pushed forward "He never came back after I told him and I felt... stupid." She admitted, tears brimming her eyes. At this point, she lost the confidence to maintain eye contact with the warrior.
"For a long time I couldn't forgive myself. I felt I had lost all confidence in others and most importantly myself, but as time progressed and my kits grew, I realized I couldn't be hard on myself and others anymore because I had a new responsibility in life, my kits." At the mention of her kits, the queen felt herself slowly straighten up, her strength rebuilding as she thought of them "They are depending on me to be the best example I can for them. I don't want them to grow up mistrusting the world because that's no way to live. I want them to be able to open up and love fully but carefully." She finally met the tom's eyes once again, taking them thoughtfully "I just want to give them a fighting chance in this world."
Smokecloud usually wore a stone barrier around his heart. Keeping him from any feelings at all. He used to be a medicine cat. He had to wear a heart of stone in case he ever had to make a hard decision but today, the stone seemed to crumble. He felt an ache in his heart for this queen. She had been through so much, trusting the wrong tom. "Well..." he began, searching for the right words to comfort her. "He obviously was a pretty dumb fool to have left a she-cat like you." He finally said, feeling a bit awkward in giving her such a personal compliment. "He missed out on a life some toms would give the world for." He was implying himself, though keeping it subtle. "I apologize that you had to go through that. He didnt deserve you and he doesnt deserve those kits. They will grow knowing they had a mother that loved them and gave up everything for them. I've seen mothers who let their broken hearts consume them and it led to them leaving their babies behind. Those kits are lucky. They have a wonderful mother waiting to meet them and guide them to be great and respectable warriors." He brushed his tail against her flank, comfortingly. "But your not alone, Mossbreeze. You have a good friend that will be here to help you, which is me of course." He purred, throwing some amusement into the heartfelt moment. "And you have a whole clan that will be there for you. You are going to be a fantastic mother and those kits are going to be extraordinary little miracles."
The endearingly sweet moment from Smokecloud left the queen feeling warm in a mixture of emotions. At first, it was embarrassing to hear the tom's blatant and rather forward compliments, though it was clear that the tom was speaking from the heart rather than wooing. But the realization that Smokecloud was speaking from his heart only made the she-cat's heart race harder in her chest, bringing with it waves of joy. To know that she was thought of so highly by someone made her relieved and proud at the same time. All that was left was a feeling of longing as the warrior brushed his tail against her. Before she could think it through, she moved forward slightly inching his way closer. The small and quiet move made the queen grow with heat-
"But your not alone, Mossbreeze. You have a good friend that will be here to help you, which is me of course."
The sudden line brought the queen to a halt, just shy a few inches from the tom's side. Her heart dropped as she glanced off nonchalantly, seeming to take the tom's words of encouragement deeply, but in reality, she felt waves of unbearable embarrassment. Of course he wasn't interested in her that way. Smokecloud was always so kind and thoughtful towards her. Mossbreeze rarely ever saw that side of the warrior and something in her assumed that maybe it was unique to her. She was wrong though. Good thing she had caught herself before she could follow through with her plan or else she probably would have died of embarrassment on the spot when he rejected her though, now knowing Smokecloud, he would have been so sweet about it.
"Yes, you are right!" She meowed, rising to her four paws quickly. "Thank you, Smokecloud, I feel so much better and confident about moving forward!" The words flowed naturally, but exuded an odd level of content for the rather heartfelt moment. "I hate to cut the conversation, but I am feel pretty worn out right now." Mossbreeze added quickly, a bit too quickly as she met Smokecloud's eyes with a new wave of forced confidence "The kits have been rather active today, more so than normal. I think it would be best for me to head back and rest up."
