She was sitting beside a small puddle, staring intently down at her reflection. Her one amber eye and one blue eye blinked back her with an unreadable expression. Geminidream didn't really like her reflection but she couldn't seem to tear her gaze away. The small black cat did this sometimes, looking as though she were searching for something in the surface of the water. But she never found what she was looking for.
With a pensive sigh she turned away and glanced around, perhaps she'd hunt before returning to camp for the evening. There wasn't much to be done in the evening when the patrols have been finished and the clan fed, but she often couldn't wind down with the other cats. Night time seemed to be when she wanted to be her most active. Geminidream liked blending in, like she was a ghost in the night, and it also made her a very effective hunter.
The sound of light paw steps echoed against the dirt covered ground as Howlingwind prowled through the territory, he spent as much of his time out of camp as possible as a way to avoid unwanted contact with his clanmates. His pale amber eyes peered unwavering at the path before him when a familiar scent drifted past him, stopping him in his tracks, even here he could not get away from them all. The odd looking tom turned his gaze toward the scent catching a glimpse of its owner, Giminidream, he had no memory of ever speaking with her and to be honest he had no desire to change that now.
Letting out a frustrated sigh he began to move slowly away, he had no reason to subject himself to yet another set of eyes who would only stare at him in disgust. As he took another step his paw connected with a fallen twig, snapping the brittle wood and sending out an alarming crack, his ears flattened and his eyes immediately shot to where the she-cat had been sitting.

Geminidream whipped around, fur fluffed up and eyes sharp, only to see Howlingwolf. The famous clan recluse. The black cat hadn't ever spoken to him but certainly knew of him, knew he didn't much like the company of others. The tom had always been interesting to her because of the mystery of him. Who was he? Why did he seem to hate everyone? Geminidream certainly had her moments where she'd rather walk the Dark Forest than be subjected to another moment with clanmates, but Howlingwolf took the antisocial behavior to a whole new level.
A strange look flashed in her dual-colored eyes and she stepped towards him, fur laying flat again. "Howlingwolf," she greeted, nothing but a neutral politeness in her voice, "you startled me."
His dull amber eyes narrowed slightly as she moved closer, he watched her eyes for the normal signs of displeasure but saw none, still he kept his guard up not willing to let himself be fooled. His reserved nature ran deep and his lack of trust in others, even those he did not know well was strong enough for him to instantly label them the same as all the others who had hurt him. The scraggly tom was about to turn and walk away when the sound of his name floated from her lips halting his paws mid-step, he had not meant to startle Giminidream, he had not meant to make himself know to her at all but it was done now. "Sorry." It was a short reply, and a poor excuse for an apology as it was uttered as more of a grunt than a true word.
As he stood awkwardly in front of her his paws shifting to and fro below him, he wanted nothing more than for the unwelcome exchange to be over so he could be alone once more.

She nodded when he apologized, taking the one word response because it hadn't really warranted an apology to begin with. "It's okay," she gazed at him as though seeing him for the first time. He was different looking, there was no getting around that fact, but Geminidream found it more interesting than off putting. She almost said so but changed her mind at the last moment, instead just closing her mouth again and flicking her tail.
But she wanted to know this cat. Howlingwolf was a mystery to her and Geminidream loves mysteries. "Hey," she began, "so, I was going to do a night patrol, would you join me?" She needed no help or company, but she was willing to ask for it if it meant socializing with this strange cat.
The she-cats question caught him off guard, no one ever asked him to join them on patrol it was only ever a matter of them getting stuck with him. "Why would you want me to join you, wouldn't you prefer someone else?" The words were harsh, but rather than that harshness being directed at her it was directed at himself. What reason would cause her to ask for his company when he knew she could in fact handle the patrol on her own.

"No," she replied as if that should be obvious. "Come on," Geminidream tasted the air and then padded decisively towards the border with NightClan, "we'll just circle the territory if that's fine with you." The black cat padded confidently forward, the moon casting a ghostly look around her that she appreciated. The whole night felt mysterious and open, full of possibility. It made her brave, "Howlingwolf," she began, "I don't see you around very often."
Without verbally agreeing the dark brown tom started following the she-cat, as the moon cast its light across her pelt he couldn't help but to watch her. The sound of her voice brought him back to reality and he blinked at her with a frown. "That's because I dont want to be seen." He replied easily with a shrug.

She glanced back at his, her two-colored eyes flickered over his pelt without really getting it. She thought she was different. But one blue eye and one amber eye was different than the problems Howlingwolf had. Geminidream believed herself to be different, but Howlingwolf truly was. She didn't yet understand that. "Well, why not?" The black cat demanded, "who cares what other cats think?"
He looked away from her as her eyes landed on him, his ears flattening at her words. "I do apparently, you wouldnt understand. It's not that simple." He hissed, these things had been going on his whole life, ingrained into him since kithood. He couldn't just pretend none of it ever happened.

Geminidream stopped completely, turning to him, "explain it to me," she prompted, sitting and wrapping her tail neatly around her paws. "I wanna know why you feel like you have to hide from our clan." She didn't remember anything about him really, aside from his anti-social behavior that he'd always seemed to display.
Howlingwolf blew a huff of air through his nose and looked up at the sky. "I didn't used to be like this, I didn't used to care and I even managed after my parents turned away from me." He stopped and looked at her though pale amber eyes. "I was shunned and rejected and made the center of their jokes, I started to notice how they looked at me, how they still look at me. It broke me down and I have lived like this since, it works for me, I leave them alone and they for the most part leave me be." He had built his walls up so tall throughout his life, he did not trust those who acted kind towards him after all the fake kindness. The tom shook his head and looked away, why was he telling her this, why was he being so open with this cat.

Geminidream stared at him for a long moment after he was finished speaking, her dual-colored eyes wide and intense. "Have you ever thought that you looked.... unique? Not in a bad way," she added quickly. "I think you look quite striking. Like someone special. I rather like it." She liked different, she always had. Having different colored eyes didn't mean she'd been bullied or anything, but it was something that made her different than every other cat. Geminidream had learned to appreciate that about herself, but how would it be if everything about you was different? How would she manage that?
His eyes lifted to the she-cat, wider than normal as he mulled over her words, him striking, unique, he had never thought of himself in that way... how could he. The more he thought about what she had said the less he was able to control himself and a deep chuckle escaped him, something not many ever heard him do. "I'm different, I know that, but I wouldnt go as far as saying I'm striking."

"Why not?" She returned, whiskers twitching in disbelief. "Most cats are, indeed, shocked to see you." It was a blunt statement, but she hoped he appreciated it for what it was. "Maybe one day you will be able to be proud of that moment rather than ashamed."
"You're honest, I like that, but I have long since given up. The looks of fear and disgust became too much, no young cat should have to live through that, but I did and this is what I have become because of it. Things are just easier when I stay in the shadows, your unique appearance is seen as beautiful even if it may be odd or strange at first, mine is of a different class altogether." He looked at the she-cats miss-matched eyes, seemingly lost in their opposing colors for a moment before he snapped back into reality.

Geminidream frowned, thinking. "I don't think it's all that beautiful," she muttered, glancing at her paws as though to hide her two-toned eyes. "I always thought it made me look... wrong. Like I wasn't made right." Not that that compared to what Howlingwolf had suffered. "But, more importantly, I'm sorry for what you've been through. You certainly deserve better." Rage filled her suddenly, a deep anger on behalf of this cat. She turned away, visibly shaking from the anger, and tried to steady her breathing. She felt it, like before, that scary rage she couldn't control. Gone unchecked, Geminidream tended to lash out at those she was angry at, this time it being most of her own clan.
Howlingwolf disagreed with the she-cat, she did have beautiful eyes, unique, eyes anyone could get lost in if they weren't careful. He shook his head, clearing his thoughts when he noticed her change in mood. Is she angry? But why would it matter to her... He stood in place for a moment, a bit in shock that his troubles could warrant such a reaction from her. "Are you alright? You really shouldn't let it bother you, though it is kind of nice that you care... You're the first." He had moved to stand beside her as he was speaking, hesitantly laying his almost rat like tail on her shoulder. He was equally as good as he was bad at many thing, and knowing what to do in situations like this was something he was bad at.

His tail on her shoulder was calming to her and the sudden emotion faded as fast as it had arrived. She, of course, still thought he deserved better than what MoonClan was giving him. But now she wasn't feeling quite as... rash. His words broke her heart but she was happy to be able to be there for him. Her clanmate needed her and she was deeply happy to be able to care for this tom. "I'm sorry, I just hate thinking of the way they all treat you. You are... a much more decent cat than most of them and they fail to see it."
Howlingwolf felt the rough vibrating of a purr building in his chest, it was an odd feeling to him, almost painful but he didn't try to force it away, instead letting it grow. "That's because unlike you, they can't see beneath the surface." It was a strange night indeed for the lonesome tom, opening up so freely to Geminidream, the strangest part being that he no longer felt he needed to hide or bury himself like he did when she first appeared. "Would you like to continue with me on my walk?" While he was now more comfortable around her, he still felt the need to keep moving to avoid others, staying in one place for too long often lead to unwanted encounters.
