Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Clan meeting!" Mistyveil called out, "Everyone who can catch their own prey please report over here."
Mistyveil was the medicine cat and possibly the oldest cat in WinterClan around when Corpsestar was in charge. She stood where the leader typically sat for clan announcements only this time there was no leader or deputy and this time she wasn't about to let WinterClan fall a part in the absence of a leader being decided. She knew everyone had been looking at her, wondering if StarClan had given them a sign yet. They hadn't, but she'd be damned if everyone was just to sit on their tails and not get any work done. Even if it had only been a day without a leader or deputy they needed some immediate structure before this place catapulted into chaos.
"Alright listen up, we don't have a leader or deputy, but we're WinterClan. We're not going to fall a part. You got me and Cinnamonpaw to help heal any one of you. We're safe and together and that is what's important. I want students being trained and I want hunting and border patrols out twelve minutes ago. And my golden rule, before any of you do anything today I want you to ask yourselves, "Would a stupid person do this?" And if the answer is yes, than don't do it. I'll be watching you fur brains so don't get into a tizzy about this whole no leader thing. We've survived before and can do it again."
With that Mistyveil lied down on the rock overlooking camp making sure the cats went about their business, but recognized a few people would come up to her with their concerns. She didn't mind that, but if just one cat was going to attempt to create a panic or some sort of riot against who knows what she decided it was her job to shut it down until StarClan or fate reached an agreement on who would be the next leader and deputy.

Down at the base of the mountain A large brown tom allowed a flick of his ear as he scented the air. It was strange how stale the taste of WinterClan was. His fur held the remnant smell of moss, sunshine, and grass. Long gone was the bitter cold from his limbs and thick fur. Leatherfern blinked Emerald green eyes and began his ascent up the mountain. Curiosity peaking at the sound of Mistyveil's crisp voice ringing out from the camp. He gave a soft purr at the fondness he had for the grouchy, pushy, she-cat. She stopped at the entrance scanning the small feeble clan that was once full of strength and honor now left leaderless and alone. His gaze shifted to Mistyveil as she finished her speech. His steps light as he rounded the circle of cats to meet her.
Yes let the sheep bleat he thought to himself, as he watched Mistyveil begin her speech. While most of the clan had fallen into chaos after the disaperance of three leaders one after another, it had been himself keeping the clan running from behind the scenes. Even though there was no clear leader he had ensured that patrols went on as normal, and that their borders and territory were secured. While he didn't carry the title of leader, he didn't need it. Cats look to him for guidance. Cats didn't realize how much he was doing to keep order, having already several disputes that could have ended in disaster.
He had debated on taking on the position himself, and yet he hadn't. When he had been given this second chance, StarClan had been clear. He was not allowed to seek to become leader once more, but he couldn't help it if the title had fallen upon him. For now he supported Mistyveil's leadership, squashing any opposition of those who believed a medicine cat shouldn't be giving orders. She could be the figure head, he would be the enforcer.
That was when his landed upon a pelt that he didn't immediatley recognize. When he had last seen that pelt, the cat had still been covered in the fresh wounds that Goldenlion had etched into his pelt, wounds that had since healed into scars. The pelt of a tom who once held so much promise, that he had promised his daughter to become his mate... It was Leatherfern. His whisker's twitched in amusement as he made his approach "And whom do we have here?" he spoke directly into the brown tom's ear, his voice dark and rumbled like a growl. He kept his voice quiet, not drawing undue attention to the intruder in their misdt.
"Either my son spiked my prey or you're actually here. I know one is more likely than the other, but I rather believe the former," Mistyveil said watching him carefully, but as usual her laziness relented and she simply lied her chin down onto the stone. Sometimes she looked at someone like she was going to murder them on the spot, but so far no one was worth the effort of tearing apart. She just wasn't the go getter doe eyed girl she used to be who could slaughter her entire family in an orchestrated plan.
She knew she was the oldest in the clan, but technically it was more like no one ever lived long or stayed long enough to compete with her in age. She nuzzled up to the warm stone, her tail gently padded the announcement stone for Leatherfern to lounge with her. That was probably the weird thing about her, she blamed him for her daughters death, but the resentment never seemed to come up seriously. Only in bitter or catty remarks that came off casual more than venomous. Even now she felt more drained by his presence than any down right anger, but then again she was clearly pregnant and this time whatever litter she was going to have seemed huge, her belly was absolutely swollen. She's had big litters before, but none like this.
"I'm waiting for StarClan to give me to give me a sign for who the next leader should be so don't even think of finding any leatherleaf ferns to strewn about the area," Mistyveil said in her usual rather monotone voice, but as usual around him there was a bit more of a playfully sarcastic tone.
She looked over to Goldenlion, "Just some pansy," She smirked, "He's no threat."
"He is no pansy," Came a soft, sultry voice, and out from the crowd stepped a beautiful she-cat, her fur billowing down in waves of brown and ginger. Striking amber eyes regarded the trio with a cool look apparent in them. Frozenrequiem, the forgotten daughter of Pickerelheart and Flickerfoot, and the pessimistic sister of Peachblossom. Everyone knew her family, for Pickerelheart and Flickerfoot were strong, reliable warriors, and Peachblossom was as sweet as can be, but nobody really knew of Frozenrequiem. She kept to the background of the crowd, always. She would fulfill her duties for the day and then slink off into the shadows, doing whatever she pleased. When forced to go on patrol with another, she kept quiet, unless it was business she was speaking of. Stoic, stern, and strict, Frozenrequiem was truly a strange warrior.
And so, for her to come out of the blue like that was truly saying something.
"He is Leatherfern, otherwise known as Leatherstar; he led WinterClan during my kithood and the beginning of my apprenticeship."

“No I am no threat. Although, Mistyveil, I am wounded by such a statement. We both know I can cause damage if I wanted too.” He gave a teasing flick of his tail. His emerald gaze moving to meet Goldenlion’s. Recognition glazed over his eyes and astonishment soon followed. He quickly squashed any noticeable sign in his face however. Why would StarClan allow a monster to walk among them again? But who was he to question them. Since leaving WinterClan he had been cursed by the Sun god and a massive tug of war between freedom and star land destiny for him ripped at his heart. “I do not need to stow hidden false signs. I know why I am here and soon you will know too.”
As Frozenrequiem joined the small crowed heat of appreciation took to his fur. Someone recognized him and not as the failure tossed from his home but as the leader he had been. He dipped his head in greeting.

Goldenlion couldn't help it, as his golden gaze froze upon the she-cat that had spoken. There was something about her, something that made him unable to tear his gaze away. He had seen plenty of 'beautiful' she-cats in his time, but this was different. It was more than mere beauty that had caught his eye. For a moment, his words got lost in his throat, almost forgetting about Leatherfern in that moment
"Leatherstar" the faintest hints of a smile ghosted across his face, although it never manifested. So the little tom with a good lineage had managed to find his way to the throne, then why is starclan's name had he given it up? He forced his eyes away from Frozenrequiem, and onto Leatherstar "any why should starclan offer you a second chance?" it wasn't a question, a demand to explain himself farther. The two of them would need to speak later, so that he could find what had happened during his absense, but for now his answer would tell him all that he needed to know

Leatherfern’s gaze iced over as he looked at his former leader, or the reincarnation of him. “I could ask you the same thing.” He hissed with a low growl. “I did not ask to be brought back here. I was fighting for a place in the lives of my children when StarClan came to me again and again till I would listen.” He flicked his tail in finality. “I do not know the will of StarClan or why they make the choices they do. But I am far too below them to argue.”
Mistyveil looked in Frozenrequiem's direction, thought of retorting back something along the lines of Yeah and he casually convinced my daughter to jump off a cliff so I guess I only half know him, but instead focused on Leatherfern letting him talk, "Don't compliment yourself Leather, you only cause trouble because-"
Out of the corner of her eye she watched as a spirit approached, stopping just out of reach, but stood behind Leatherfern. She tore her gaze away, she could feel them, see them. WinterClan was a mysterious land and with its ever changing rule and legends came the different abilities that she possessed, but none tormented her more than the ability to see ghosts. Why did she stand behind him? "Nevermind," she said, it was never like her to give up on any sarcastic reply, heck she even roasted her own kits half the time, the fact she let it go spoke a lot.
Her golden and blue grey ears twitched at Leatherfern's foreboding words. She found herself tilting her head to the side in a puppy dog like motion, "That's mysterious," She winced before licking at her belly when she looked back up at Leatherfern there was another white cat beside him that no one else could see. She walked closer to him and placed a paw over his, "It's alright Leather, you can stay as long as you'd like. You were always my friend, but you were never my leader when you chose to sacrifice your own clan mates. I think that's a fair statement coming from me."
Her gaze always appeared dead or judgmental, but for once looked fuzzy, almost life like with worry, "You can enjoy the sun spot with me."
She didn't know why, but a certain tom-cat was staring her down. Her gaze met Goldenlion's, and if she had eyebrows, one would certainly be raised right now. She cleared her throat and darted her gaze, her cheeks heating up. Yet, she kept a calm exterior, her large form towering over the other's, all except for Goldenlion's stature. Her stare fell onto Leatherstar as she awaited his reply to Mistyveil.
In that moment, a strange energy arose around her. Frozenrequiem's fur began to stand on end, and she couldn't help but to feel a shudder run up her spine. Something wasn't right. There was something here that was foreign to her, a concept she couldn't quite grasp, and whatever it was it was enough to unsettle the usually undisturbed feline.

Leatherfern tipped his head in wonder. How a cat could go from animosity to acceptance was a mystery. He wanted to open his mouth to defend himself over Icecreams death. Both himself and the young Martyr believed in the ancients and their power over the white cats. But he couldn’t dismiss a mother’s love. He nodded, not noticing the ghosts of StarClan lingering near him and leapt up onto the rock next to a pregnant Mistyveil. She was the only medicine cat he knew that got away with not angering StarClan with her over population of the forest. He settled down resting his gaze across the clan with his head held high to see farther away. He took a deep steadying breath. This was home.
"Frozenrequiem have you noticed anyone complain yet about hunger? I feel we've had a steady rate of prey, but as you know, I'm always hungry so it's a little harder for me to tell," Mistyveil said. It wasn't a secret about Mistyveil's bottomless appetite, she complained about her hunger constantly... Well complained about hunger and a million other things, luckily it was to herself, but the clan couldn't ignore the constant groans coming from her den. What she didn't explain to anyone who wasn't there was that she was cursed by a God to feel eternal hunger, but if she told them that she felt it would keep their belief alive.
Mistyveil let out a sharp hiss at the pain in her stomach, she had been having false contractions since yesterday, but she took it as a sign the kits would come soon enough. The pregnancy couldn't be better timing, the nursery was practically empty, it was why Regin and her decided to have a fifth litter.
He supposed stranger things had happened, and though he could not see the spirits he could feel them as the fur along his spine rose involuntarily. They always had that effect on him when they lingered, and though Leatherfern didn't know his purpose here Goldenlion had managed to figure out his own. StarClan had brought him back to bring WinterClan back into greatness, yet he wasn't allowed to lead himself. He was meant to serve as a guide and adviser, perhaps Leatherfern was the leader he had been waiting on. He had chosen him once before, why wouldn't he choose him again?
Satisfied with Leatherfern's answer, he huffed, about to retort was scent filled his nose that was almost sickly sweet. It was familiar, and yet different all the same. He practically spun around to come face to face with a she-cat. Paint coated her long pelt, hiding it's true colors underneathe all of the yellows and oranges and reds. A blazing sun rested upon her forehead, as she stood with an air of both grace and authority. She was cat among she-cats, a queen. Even though she looked far different than the tiny scrap of fur her once knew, it was he golden eyes that gave it away. The cats before him.... it was his daughter, Littlebird. The daughter he believed to be dead.
Frozenrequiem turned to look at Mistyveil, a soft snort leaving her nostrils. Of course she was asking about food. Maybe it was for the well-being of the clan, but in Frozenrequiem's eyes, it was probably because Mistyveil was hungry - again. Her eyes settled on Goldenlion once more before returning her attention to Mistyveil. "Prey levels are moderate as of right now; it is expected to rise in the next moon during leaf-fall, yet drop again during leaf-bare. It'd be smart of us if we hunted as much as we can during leaf-fall and then bury our extra prey in the ground to keep it from rotting; we will have enough prey to last us during leaf-bare if we do that."
"We can start implementing burying prey when leafbare approaches closer, it's barely green leaf hasn't even ended yet after all," Mistyveil said with a shrug.
Her blue gaze locked onto Littlebird, "Littlebird, good timing, I think the kits might be coming very soon. Goldenlion and Cinnamonpaw will be able to handle things while I'm recovering," She winced back another sharp his, "and hopefully during that time StarClan will have made up their minds on who should carry on as leader."
She groaned and got up this time carefully stepping off from the rock, "Oh and Leather's here so that's a thing."
It felt too weird calling him Leatherfern, she knew him as Leatherfern once, but even when Understar was in charge he always felt more like a leader than him.

Leatherfern felt his heart tug before he captured her intoxicating scent on the light icy breeze. As he turned his head to take in his ex mates grace his heart took to racing as it always did in the Priestess Promised presence. On instinct and in respect Leatherfern rose to his paws and stepped off of the rock as well. How casually Mistyveil addressed a cat of such reverence amused him. He didnt remember much of his mother, Coralsnow, but he hoped in some ways she was like Mistyveil.
"Littlebird," her name came out of his maw before he realized his vocal cords has vibrated the syllables. Before her he was like a melting snow cat. Clearing his throat he gave his pelt a shake. "I never thought id ever see you on this mountain again." he admired the snow clinging to the bits of her he could see behind her painted colors. The soft gray fur he wished to touch once more.
What in the Sun God's flames had she just walked into? As soon as she entered into the clearing, she could feel all eyes upon her. Mistyveil had asked to assisit with her kitting if she was able to, but she hadn't been expected to be confronted at the entrance by the entire clan. There were so many cats crowded into the the small area that it took her a moment to find Mistyveil, and the other cats at her side. Even though Leatherfern's presence caught her attention, what made her stop mid-step was the cat who towered above the others and face that she knew all to well.It was the face that had haunted her since she was a kit, the face of her father. But it couldn't be him, her father was dead. She had watched him die, his blood splattered across her face.
It was only a moments hesitation, and only those that knew her well would have caught it. Other wise she maintained a poised face, giving little indication to the the utter turmoil going on internally. All to aware that Leatherfern would feel her emotions, despite her mask, she attempted to push everything but helping Mistyveil to the side. The rest would have to wait. Without missing a beat, she strolled through the gathered WinterClan cats, as the parted before her like snow before a sunbeam
"Then we best retire to more private chambers" she replied to the medicine cat, as she moved forward allowing her tail to flick Leatherfern's shoulder "You should pick your jaw up off the floor, it doesn't suit you Leatherfern" she added over her shoulder before guiding Mistyveil into the darkness of what she could only assume was her den with the smell of herbs wafting from it.
"Don't get too excited." Skipstep drawled, the balinese tom stalking in behind Littlebird his tan and black fur covered in black painting though he shook off the snow that had settled on his pelt, trying to get it off before it melted and made him more cold than he already was. Fortunately he wasn't suffering any chills, they'd moved quickly enough to avoid that. He had set down some herbs Littlebird had tasked him to carry. "We're just visiting." He said to Leatherfern before focusing on Littlebird, "Where should I take these dear?" He asked.

Leatherfern rolled his eyes as Skipstep showed up and spoke. Although for once the tables were turned. They were the ones on the other side of the border for once. Though watching Skipstep rid his pelt of snow allowed Leatherfern a little bit of satisfaction. "Welcome to the dark side Skipstep. Dont stay too long. The white cats might possess you."
Singedwolf had never expected to be back in this camp, and he wasn't thrilled about it either. He stalked after the Priestess Promised with his low fiery glare raking each cat. There few far too many familiar faces -- including the leader he had betrayed, it seemed. He grunted as he assessed this strange tom that looked just like Goldenstar, looking for signs they weren't the same cat: little ticks that different, changes in how he held himself, maybe a glimmer of mercy in his eyes. It would serve him better if this cat was someone else, but then again, hadn't he done as he was asked? He always had, he'd even saved his daughter. If you counted a life in SunClan as being saved.
