Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(NightClan cannot stay in the clearing forever. Even though cats are still nervous about another earthquake, they need to move on. Burningstar tasks Larkwing with taking some cats along the river to see if the Waterfall would be an acceptable temporary base of operations. OPEN to everyone)
Burningstar sighed as she stepped around the water puddles. It seemed every day they remained in this clearing, the water puddles formed from the shaking earth had yet to fully finalize their position. Though the shaking had seemed to have finally ceased, water seemed to just move around the clearing. IT could also just be the dew, but Burningstar was getting tired of constantly waking up damp, and having to be awake during the day and night since the clearing provided no shelter from the sun during the day. Making their normal sleep schedule impossible.
Cats were still antsy with everything going on, but this couldn't carry on.
Burningstar went over to where her deputy lay and prodded him. "Larkwing, get up. I have an important job for you."
Larkwing shot his head up with a snort, not expecting to be disturbed, blurry eyes trying to focus on whoever prodded him. He had hardly slept since the earth quake and any sleep he got, he treasured. His sleepy eyes finally adjusted to see Burningstar standing over him. He let out a large yawn, then rose to his paws and stretched. After his moment of stretching, he faced Burningstar. "A job?" he was still half asleep but somewhat functional.
Burningstar noted how tired he looked, she could relate. She hadn't slept a wink. Not since the earthquake, and it had worsened when she'd discovered Kerrigan dead. Now not only did she have to juggle taking care of her clan, she had to juggle a drive for vengeance. All in all it was burning her out from two different angles and she very much didn't appreciate it.
She gave Larkwing a sympathetic look. "I know you're tired, I am as well. But though the clearing has served as the means for us to regroup with our clanmates, it is a poor location for us to remain in much longer. We will need to find a better temporary shelter." Burningstar said.
She knew they should focus on building a new camp, on restructuring their lives after this. But Burningstar knew her cats were very tired. She just needed a safe place for them to get a reprieve long enough for them to catch their breaths and then move forwards.
"I do not want to pick a location far from water. Many cats are still very nervous about moving around. And some are well." She glanced towards Smallspiral who had since the vigil the night before remained unmoving in the center of the clearing. "Some are struggling harder than others to get motivated to move. So we need to prioritize a location with natural sheltering from the light so we can all get a decent rest."
Larkwing shook himself, his mind becoming more clear as he woke up. "Certainly, Burningstar" he answered, dipping his head. "Who would you like to come with me?"
"Whoever is willing to make the journey, I know many are still very distressed from what's happened." Burningstar said softly. "Take a patrol of 5 cats, if one of the older apprentices wants to come you can take them but be careful." The ginger she cat stressed. They could not afford to lose any more cats.
"Preferably," Burningstar meowed glancing up at the sun that was high in the sky. "Though we operate more in the night, I'd rather you travel while there is plenty of light. Pick whomever you feel is up to the task." She said glancing towards the cats.
Amberlake hadn't tired to hide the fact that she'd been listening to Burningstar's instructions to Larkwing. She too had been unable to sleep with the recent events which made the already typically cranky she-cat even more difficult to deal with. But the thought of scouting out a new place to shelter picked her interest. "I'll go." She volunteered herself, walking up to Burningstar and Larkwing.
Burningstar turned to Amberlake and nodded. "Good, thank you amberlake for volunteering."
"I'll go too!" Viscariapaw declared suddenly. He didn't know fully what he was volunteering for, but it had been a long time since he and Amberlake had been partners, and she'd gotten the better of him in all their competitions. Even though the forest scared him a little... especially after Thistlebriar's death. He didn't want to let her go and be brave while he stayed and cowered. So he puffed up his chest and looked expectantly up at Burningstar.
Burningstar hesitated when Viscariapaw stepped up. He was still an apprentice tehcnically, but he was overdue to be named a warrior. A bit reluctant, especially since she'd watched as Shiverstar raised Viscariapaw she allowed this nodding her head slowly. "All right, you can go as well. Maybe aim for 1 or 2 others Larkwing?" She suggested.
Larkwing gave a curt not to Amberlake, "Thank you. Glad to have you on board." Then he turned back to Burningstar, "Do you want to make an announcement for any volunteers or would you rather me just pick?"
Viscariapaw dipped his head to Larkwing, "Happy to be of help." He said before looking towards Amberlake lifting his chin proudly.
Burningstar stepped away from the growing group before moving towards the center of clearing. "I need any warrior who is able and ready to go brave our territory to look for a new place for us to reside. Who will join Larkwing's patrol?" She called.
(I can use Stonehill as well unless you want to wait and see if someone else will reply?)
"Are you excited to explore the waterfall for the first time?" Amberlake asked Viscariapaw. "I've never really explored that area so I'm interested to see what we're going to find." She said, before casting a curious glance around the camp, waiting to see which other warriors would join the patrol.
(nah stonehill will be great, thanks hh! Best we get this thread on with XP)
"I've explored some of it before, but not too indepth," Viscariapaw said flicking his tail. "I just hope it's a nice enough place for us to maybe stay." He doubted their camp was even close to being hospitable right now. So the need for a place for the clan to reside was paramount.
Stonehill lifted his head up sleepily when he heard Burningstar call out to the Clan - something about a patrol with Larkwing. He glanced around noticing that no one else was volunteering so the large black and white tom rose to his paws and padded up to his leader and deputy. "I'll join." He said, still blinking sleep from his eyes.
____
"Hopefully it's somewhat less wet than this place." Amberlake responded, glaring down at the puddle nearest to them.
"Or at least the water stays in one place," Viscariapaw agreed. "My nest wound up waterlogged last night from a puddle coming up, it's the worst." ///----/// Burningstar nodded to Stonehill, "Thank you Stonehill, I think with the four of you now that should be enough, your task is simple. Check and see if anywhere along the river, or by the waterfall can be used as a temporary camp so we can better regroup." She said.
"Welcome aboard, Stonehill" Larkwing greeted the tom with a smile. "Thank you for volunteering." The silver tabby tom then looked at Burningstar, "We will, Buringstar. Count on us being back for dinner" He turned to his patrol and with a curt nod, he headed toward the waterfall.
They hadn't been out much in the forest since the earth quake. They had been hunting as close to the camp as possible and being further away from their temporary camp and under the tress made him feel uneasy. The territory looked unfamiliar and he wished he could just turn around and go back to the clearing. Though, he held his composure so no one would notice any uneasiness he felt. He didn't want his patrol to think that their deputy couldn't hold himself together during a troubling time. "I really hope there is something near the waterfall that we could use for a camp" he mewed at last, not looking at his patrol as he walked. He may as well start a conversation. It may help keep everyone calm.
"I'm sure we'll find something. Almost anything will be better than the clearing at this point." Stonehill responded to Larkwing.
____
"Thankfully, I haven't woken up to a waterlogged nest yet." Amberlake said. She scanned their territory as they moved through it. She almost couldn't recognize it, which made her want to venture deeper into the territory to explore more of the damage, but that wasn't what they were out here for right now. "Do you think our entire territory is going to be unrecognizable?" she asked.
Larkwing nodded in agreement to Stonehill before replying to Amberlake, "I think that if it is, this will eventually become familiar to us and we will adapt. We are Nightclan for crying out loud. We can adapt to anything, I'm sure." Most of the other clans came out during the day. Very few clans came out at night which made them uncommon. "If anyone can adapt after what we have been through, its us." He felt that some encouragement toward his clan mates would bring some hope back in their eyes.
