[ She hasn't received her name just yet but for all intents and purposes she'll be Ravenstar cx ]
Ravenstar pushed out of her new den, it was strange being in Angelstar and then Frostcloud's old den. She had always imagined Dragonrage would share it with her but he was gone long enough for her to have trained two apprentices, Mudpaw being her third. The sleek black she-cat padded over to the fresh-kill pile and picked up a mouse, eating it quickly before going to check up on her apprentice for training.
It was weird, living in a new den. Mudpaw felt as if she had just finally gotten used to sleeping in the Nursery, only to now be forced to move her nest across the camp. Not to mention that she'd have to do it again once she was made a warrior...though at least that was still a ways off. According to the older cats, becoming a warrior didn't have a specific time limit like being a kit was; it happened when your mentor and the clan leader decided you were ready. The chocolate-brown Havana glanced up as she exited the apprentices' den, spotting Ravenstar by the fresh-kill pile eating. Mudpaw, feeling still so new to Summerclan even after four moons of living there, gulped nervously. Was it a good thing or a bad thing if the leader was your mentor? All she had been told after her promotion was that it was a huge honor; which meant that there was a lot of pressure on her shoulders to make a good impression.

Ravenstar was aware that Mudpaw had not been born into the clan, had seen the the apprentice carried in as a kit and had been in the nursery besides her suckling Snowkit after her own second litter miscarried. She saw potential in the young brown apprentice and decided she wanted to mentor her when the time came. After the death of two of her kits, it only made her want to train the apprentices of their clan better as if they were her own.
She finished her mouse up quickly, licking her lips and giving her ears a quick wash before looking around and noticing her brown-furred apprentice. She walked over with a friendly smile on her face. "Eat something quickly if you are hungry, you will need your strength for the day." Often times in leaf-bare apprentices would catch their own prey while out hunting but today was a bit different.
Mudpaw froze as Ravenstar made her way over to her, though her tense muscles relaxed a bit when she saw the leader's kind smile. There was really nothing to be nervous about, she knew that. It was her mentor's job to train her into the loyal and skilled warrior she knew she wanted to be. Even still, when the older she-cat suggested that she grab something to eat, any words she could've replied with got caught in her throat, and the young apprentice was only able to nod mutely before scampering past towards the fresh-kill pile for breakfast.
Her yellow-green gaze scanned the prey quickly, before finally resting on a decently sized sparrow that Mudpaw began to chow down on. As she chewed, she forced herself to breathe slowly to calm down, easing her restless nerves. 'You'll be fine,' she told herself as she spit out a feather. 'It's not like she's gonna judge you or anything'.

Ravenstar chuckled quietly with amusement as her nervous apprentice moved off to the fresh-kill pile and Ravenstar decided to sit closer to the camp entrance and give herself a slightly more thorough wash. She padded over to the camp entrance where her son and Pantherclaw stood their vigils and she congratulated them once before before telling them to rest before going out to hunt. SHe gave her son a few affectionate licks to his ears and he licked her shoulder before sprinting off to the warrior's den to find a nest.
The sleek black leader watch him go, glowing with pride as she did. It wasn't until his tail disappeared that she turned around to see if her apprentice was finished eating yet.
Gobbling up the last of her bird, Mudpaw glanced up and, not seeing Ravenstar by the apprentices' den where just was a short time ago, scanned the camp until her gaze finally rested on where the leader was talking to the newly-promoted Lupinepatch and Pantherclaw. A soft smile crossed her face as she watched the older she-cat give her son an affectionate lick, and for a brief moment felt a longing for the mother she never knew. As the two young warriors headed into their den for a well-deserved sleep, Mudpaw approached her mentor, suddenly feeling much more understanding and confident. "So..." She mewed with a sheepish grin. "What are we going to do today?"

"Today, we are going to go for a tour of the territory. It's important you are familiar with it and one day you will know every rock and twig without even realizing it." She told her with a smile. That came with perusing the same land every day for many seasons. At first, Mudpaw would receive her close guidance but over time would become more and more independent before becoming a warrior. "Follow me." She instructed, turning around and heading out of camp.
Mudpaw's eyes lit up when she realized that she would finally be allowed to go outside of camp, and the she-cat nodded eagerly. In truth, she had been in the forest before; Greythorn had found her of the very outskirts of Summerclan territory, and she had attempted more than her fair share of escape attempts as a kit alongside her other denmates. But this time she'd be able to travel the woods freely, able to investigate every nook and cranny without fear. She followed close behind Ravenstar, taking in the first sights and sounds of the new environment around her.

She glanced back at her apprentice to make sure she was close before picking up speed as they headed toward the river in the northern part of their territory. She wanted to make good enough ground today that Mudpaw would be able to orient herself fairly easily within the next week and be able to explore with ease. All new apprentices always wandered about trying to grow more familiar with more than just some main landmarks. As they approached the river, she ran alongside it until they reached stepping stones. "These are the stepping stones. It's rare they are covered so we can usually jump across without too many problems." She jumped onto the first one then carefully stepped onto the second, turning around so her apprentice could safely begin crossing.
Mudpaw had been so preoccupied in taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest, that she almost didn't notice when Ravenstar began to pick up speed, and the brown she-cat had to scramble to catch up with her. Her ears twitched as she picked up the rushing sound of the river before she even saw it, and a giggle escaped her and stared down at her own reflection in the running water. "A-Alright," she replied absentmindedly, once again getting distracted enough to miss the leader's cue until she realized that she was being stared at. "O-Oh! R-Right, sorry!"
She stared at the flat stone ahead of her uneasily. It looked so smooth and slippery; what if she slipped and fell into the water? Mudpaw gulped. Though the water wasn't frozen, it was still Leafbare, so it would certainly be a freezing swim.

Ravenstar watched her apprentice, amused by how engaged and distracted she was with the surrounding territory. Fortunately, she had plenty of patience for them both and didn't want to rush her if it meant that she might slip. "Don't worry, they aren't as bad as they seem. The water here is not deep but it certainly is cold. Take your time, you will get used to them with practice." Summerclan was a mix of swimmers and non-swimmers but even during this time of the year those who enjoyed swimming did not do it - or at least not for very long.
Mudpaw took in her leader's words but did not reply, instead lowering herself into a half-crouch as she focused on the open rock between them. She could do this. She just had to be brave. Deciding it was better not to second guess herself, the chocolate she-cat suddenly sprung forward over the river, landing on top of the stone and digging into it with her claws for balance. As soon as she had landed, the apprentice had squeezed her eyes shut in fear that she would slip and fall into the icy water, but after a few seconds of nothing happening, she slowly blinked her eyes open and grinned. "H-hey! I did it!"

"Good job!" She called, using the stepping stones to reach the bank on the other side and turning around once again. "Now finish coming across, if you did one you can do all of them." She purred, waiting patiently once again. It was always best not to rush apprentices too much for their first time across. Of course, not all her warriors had the same patience or sentiment as much as she wished they did sometimes.
Mudpaw grinned, feeling much more confident after making the first jump. She first watched Ravenstar leap across to the other side of the river, intensely studying how the older she-cat did it. Then, it was Mudpaw's turn. The proud apprentice put dramatic theatrics into every jump between stones, taking long pauses in-between bounds to steady herself for the next one. Personally, she thought that showing off like this would make her look cool and brave in front of the Summerclan leader, though in reality, her short, high pounces made her resemble a brown fuzzy grasshopper in form. After what was probably a painfully longer time than necessary, the naive cat finally landed on the dirt beside her mentor, tail held boastfully high.

She smiled, watching thoughtfully and patiently. She was certainly approaching the jumps at her own pace and in her own way and the leader liked that about her own apprentice. Thoughtful, curious, and excited. She would make an excellent warrior yet off of those traits alone, so long as Ravenstar guided her well. "Well done!" She praised the apprentice, allowing her to have her moment. "Big victories can only be accomplished through smaller ones." She purred, flicking her tail towards the stone before tipping her head. "Let's get moving once again."
Mudpaw felt her face grow warm as she bashfully flushed at her leader's praise, though quickly hid her sheepishness under a diligent nod, waiting for Ravenstar to take the lead once again. For a brief moment, she glanced over her shoulder back at the stepping stones and the river. How long did it take for the other apprentices to cross them for the first time? She immediately tried to push those thoughts away; there was no reason to be comparing herself to everyone else. Someday she'd be better than all of them!

"Now that we are across the bridge, this entire meadow expanse is called the rabbit meadows and border's on Fallclan's territory. Can you guess what kind of prey you will find here?" She asked, amusement glimmering in her warm grey eyes. After crossing the stepping stones, they were far out in the open and there was little but patches of large grass to hide them. It wasn't uncommon to spot fallclan cat's here often either since there was no covering and it was greatly disadvantageous for something such as battles.
"Hmmmm, weasels, I think?" Mudpaw retorted jokingly, before looking out over the wide expanse of the open field in awe. She had remained within Summerclan's camp deep within the forest for so long, she couldn't recall if she had ever seen such a large, treeless patch of land before. "So that line of trees on the other side of the meadow..." she began, following close behind Ravenstar into the grass. "That marks Fallclan's territory? I've heard stories about the other clans from the older apprentices and some of the warriors, but what are they really like? You must have met them before, right?"

(Apologies! I have been very sick, but alas I have returned!)
Ravenstar nodded at her apprentice's question. "Yes, and you will meet them as well, with time. Those trees mark the border between Summerclan and Fallclan territory. As you will see later, there is a lake that splits the border between Springclan and Summerclan. We do not share much of a border with Winterclan, but where all the territories meet you may see a border patrol passing through. Fallclan is the friendliest of the three groups and you will meet all the clans at the gatherings in the future. There is nothing wrong with having friends across borders but you must realize that one day you may have to face them in battle." She felt a tinge of guilt as she explained this to her apprentice. Here she was, talking about being careful who she met with an befriended across the borders and yet she met a Winterclan tom quite frequently as more than just her friend.
(Alas! I have returned as well! Sorry from my end. XD)
Mudpaw nodded solemnly with her narrow gaze fixed unwaveringly at the distant line of trees as if studying it. She hoped she'd be able to go to a gathering someday, she heard so much about them from the older cats. Her mind couldn't even fathom so many cats in one place like they described. What were apprentices from other clans like? Would they be nice, or standoffish like their clans? Would she be able to make friends with some of them? But what if she had to fight them one day as Ravenstar said? She wasn't sure if she could harm a friend. "Hey Ravenstar," the apprentice finally mewed, glancing up at her mentor again. "Can we go down there for a closer look?"
