He swooned, and for just a second, Stormreign was at a loss for words. That was... unexpected.
It took all of his willpower not to lean back in for another kiss.
"I don't," he laughed breathlessly, "I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. I'm not-- I'm not saying Shule dislikes me. I'm serious, she wants to kill me, then throw me back in prison, then kill me again and make a nest out of my fur. If I ever show my face near the tunnels again, if she even figures out I'm alive, then I'm dead. That's--- that's a problem."

Well he hadn't run. That was a good sign right?
Hakoda's gaze lingered on Stormreign, watching with amusement as the tables turned. Now it was Stormreign's turn to be flustered, tripping over his own words like a blind cat over roots in the forest. He didn't really care what had caused Shule to hate him, it didn't matter. Shule had enemies far and wide, in nearly every crevice of this world. He refused to allow something so arbitrary stand in the way of something that made him happy
"Think you're the first?" he asked, he wasn't even living in the regime right now. That part of his life so small, that it was easier to say he more SunClan or even Dayclan than regime. Sure he had family there, but that didn't mean they had to return back there.
"Of course not," he huffed immediately, "Shule couldn't make friends if her life depended on it." He had never seen her get along with a cat who wasn't her relative. Some cats treated her with respect because of her position, but that power wasn't the same as friendship. He'd learned that one the hard way.
"You really don't care?" Stormreign shook his head slightly, looking back at Hakoda. He made things seem so simple, but Stormreign wasn't so sure. He had fled to NightClan to escape Shule; was he really going to throw it all away so easily now? He had rotted away for moons, he couldn't go back to their prison, he shouldn't take that risk. He wouldn't survive it.
"You don't care, but... I do. I have to. If she doesn't kill me, she'll put me in prison to finish my sentence, and I can't go back there. I'm not being overdramatic, I'm not trying to be difficult," he insisted, "I am dead serious." His intense gaze locked onto Hakoda. "I would do anything to stay out of there, even if it means giving you up. That's just how it is."
The affection that had left him feeling so warm and fuzzy was dissipating now. It always would. Lust and love were temporary, and they weren't worth the sentence. Prison might be temporary but it had a much later expiration date.

"You talk to much"
This time it wasn't a peck, but a real kiss as he pulled Stormreign closer to silence his nervous ramblings. The sound of the roaring waterfall behind them filling the silence, his eyes slowly closing. He wasn't sure what had possesed him to be so forward and direct. Or rather he knew, and didn't want to admit it. He was falling for Stormreign, and it both thrilled and terrified him.
This time it was Hakoda whom pulled away, only giving a small distance between there faces so that the other tom could look into his eyes "I will deal with Shule" he whispered, before leaning back and getting to his paws
Nobody dealt with Shule. Stormreign knew that. He had tried to keep her in reign for moons, and failed; he couldn't even stop her from murdering Funk. Hakoda wouldn't be able to keep her in line either.
In that particular moment, he no longer cared.
Hakoda dazzled him just enough to lose his sensibility, and he put the issue to rest for the moment. When he was alone later, replaying this meeting in his mind, he would remember with full force how terrified he should be, but here, now, he was serene.
"Okay, you've made your point," he conceded, a slight smile playing across his lips. Stormreign watched him walk away for several long seconds before he remembered himself.
"If you would stop distracting me, I owe you a tour of the waterfalls."

Hakoda had made up his mind. He would speak with his grandmother, put an end to Stormreign’s fears.
“You stopped” he nearly chirped in response, a retort that he was the one doing the distracting. How preposterous. Seeing the playful look in the other toms eyes, he dropped into a play bow looking upwards as he bounced back and forth on the stone “race?” He looked a little ridiculous, a grown warrior bouncing around like a kit, but he didn’t care. Stormreign had opened up to him, and as a result his own defensive walls were slowly beginning to crumble. It was a side of him that few cats ever got a glimpse of, much less were able to experience first hand
"Do you even know where you're going?" Stormreign laughed, marveling at the change that had overcome Hakoda. The cat bouncing around in front of him was the opposite of what he had expected from the stoic, silent warrior he had blindfolded, but he couldn't say he minded the change. He leaned forward, stretching out his lanky hind legs before padding up to Hakoda's side and pointing up past him to the trail. There were many ways away from the falls, but that narrow track was the easiest way to cross over the top of the waterfall and climb up the grassy slopes on the other side that would lead to the splendid view he wanted to show him.
"We'll head up that way, and whoever reaches the top of the hill first wins. Try not to slip and fall into the river on the way there. Ready?" Stormreign grinned at him before taking a step back to give them both room to run. This would be a much easier task for him, and he was looking forward to it. "Three... two.... one.... go!"

Darksonata didn't know where they were headed, but really it didn't matter. He was just eager to spend some time with Stormreign, and perhaps even show off a little bit of what he had been practicing out there in the desert. One of his favorite things to do was challenge himself to an agility course to test his speed and strength. His big goal was to be able to keep his family safe, so he trained almost relentlessly. Besides with the weather being so cool here, it seemed things would be in his favor.
He looked up to the top of the hill, tracing the path with his eyes before giving him a nod. As soon as the command was give, he took off up the hill at an alarming face. Without the hot air and heavy sands, it was almost like he could fly over the forest floor.
He had been in NightClan for several moons now, and he had crossed the waterfall enough times to know where the best paths were; he had shown one to Hakoda to keep things fair, but he still knew exactly where to place his paws without having to slow down to think about it. The terrain was his only advantage. While he had long legs for running, Stormreign rarely had a reason to push himself through a sprint, and he was used to long jogs instead.
But he wasn't going to give up that easily. Stormreign had a competitive streak, even if he usually masked it as playfulness. He darted up the path and turned neatly around the corner to face the waters.

Darksonata raced ahead, noticing that his date had decided to take and alternate route, so did he. Crossing over the slippery stones as quickle as he could, it reminded him of the slick bones that he so often climbed on ly if you fell here it would be straight into the water. To make up for lost time he decided to take a short cut, only he was now headed in the wrong direction. Climbing up the wrong hill, straight towards NightClan's camp.
He slowed down over the water, timing each leap with care. He could swim, but that didn't mean he wanted to take a dive right now, and the water on top of the falls was a stronger current than the rivers he was used to. It was better to take his time and keep his footing. He didn't look up until he had crossed, and then his heart sank in dismay.
"Hakoda, stop!" he hissed as loudly as he dared. They were too close to the camp now, he couldn't risk waking them up. He sprinted up the hill after the tom.

Darksonata turned back with a goofy grin, not realizing that he was headed up the wrong hill. Almost before the other tom’s words to stop could register, the ground below his feet disappeared. Looking back at Stormreign he hadn’t noticed the drop off on the other side of the bushes. His legs continued to run, but catching nothing but air he began to fall. Unlike most cats, Hakodate didn’t scream only a small tip of surprise as his black coat faded into the darkness. Followed by a loud splash as he hit the water. Followed by silence
One second, the dark tom's silhouette was illuminated near the top of the hill; the next he was gone, and Stormreign blinked twice, unable to understand until he heard the splash of the tom plunging into the water. It was a long fall, and his fur stood on end just at the thought of the impact: it would sting, it would be freezing code, but he did not think it was hard enough to deal lasting damage. At least, he hoped it wasn't.
Stormreign veered down the hill and paced along the water's edge, anxiously skimming the darkness for a sign of Hakoda. He just needed to know which direction to swim in, where to start, but with every passing millisecond, he feared Hakoda was unconscious beneath the waves. "Come on, come on," he muttered, "show yourself..."
She heard the splash from where she had laid half asleep. "... What the hell?" she muttered, her teeth clenching. Why was it that any time Aspenstar got even a moment's rest, something happened? Couldn't she just have one normal day? That's all she wanted, just a few moments of peace...
She wasn't likely to get it, though, not with her luck. Without much thought, she felt herself stand and race towards the sound. The waters were dangerous, something the fawn-colored she-cat knew all too well. She dashed forward, closing the distance to where Stormreign was. Judging by his look of agitation, her fears were correct; there was someone in the water.
"Who are we looking for?" she meowed in a quick bark, her gaze focused on the waters that took her first life. She had more questions, namely why Stormreign smelled foreign, but they could wait until everyone was safe.

Moments ticked by, but the black tom didn't rise to the surface. As the last of the ripples from the splash dissipated the water seemed eerily still. Underneath the water, Darksonata lied limply blood floating upwards from where he had struck his head on the stones below. Luckily he wasn't to far from the shore line or very deep, but being unconscious meant that he couldn't get himself to the surface. His body slowly sinking and settling on the bottom with the waves tugging at his long black coat. The only indication to his whereabouts the trickle of blood rising to the surface
Stormreign did not have time to worry about one of his clanmates discovering an intruder in their clan, even if it was the leader herself. If the extra set of eyes helped save Hakoda's life, he'd take any reprimands she had to offer him.
"Lanky black tom," he replied; "I know, I know, of all the cats I could lose in the middle of the night, it had to be the one with dark fur." His tense smile did nothing to relieve his fears as he leaned further over the water. "Shouldn't he be trying to swim? Sending up a few bubbles, at least? It's like he isn't even trying. When he gets back up here, I'm never going to stop teasing him about that."
Finally, his patience wore off, and the moonlight reflected off a glimmer of crimson rising to the surface of the waves. Stormreign didn't speak but sprinted into the water and struck out toward the thin line of blood, letting his nose guide him closer to the right spot. He dove down, searching the bottom until he saw a glittery heap of fur, and resurfaced.
"Aspenstar, help me grab him!" he yowled. Once more he descended into the water, seizing the tom by the scruff and starting to drag him up.
Aspenstar said nothing as she looked into the water. She'd done this one too many times, searched the murky depths for a body. She stayed silent until the tom yowled, and then she took one last centering breath. If Aspenstar had a fear in life, it was the water. It had taken so much from her, her very own life, yet here she was, about to dive back in it... Her moment to consider the situation was cut short, though, replaced by a pressing sense of urgency as her body broke the surface of the water. In all honesty, the small leader was not the most helpful; she wasn't strong, nor was she particularly gifted at swimming. She'd be damned, though, if another body entered that water alive and came out dead.
With a hiss of determination, the leader sent her shoulder ramming into the tom. It would probably hurt quite significantly, but using all of her strength proved effective; the tom was launched onto the ground. The leader took little time after to exit the water herself, although she took no time to dry. Instead, she immediately pulled back to Stormreign, her eyes flecked with concern. "Is he breathing?"

By the time Hakoda was pulled from the water it was difficult to tell where the blood was coming from. All of his red, orange, and yellow paint smearing together and dripping downwards. The once crisp shapes unrecognizable. Though it still clung to his pelt, the oils mixed into the paint to keep them more water proof doing their job. There was a deep gash on his head from where he had struck on of the rocks, and there was little doubt that he would be sore from being pushed so hard against the stones he wasn’t breathing, at least not at first. His head flopping downwards listlessly as he was carried to shore.
It was only the Nightclan leader’s hard jab into his side to get him onto land that seemed to stir life back into him. Water poured from his mouth onto the hard stone floor, followed by coughing and gasping as he tried to clear his airway. It was clear he would still need to see a medicine cat, but his eyes opened slowly. Taking in the face of Stormreign, before turning into a lopsided grin “Win?” He managed to wheeze
Storemreign pulled himself from the water and leaned over Hakoda, his dripping whiskers brushing the tom's face as he anxiously listened for the sound of his breath. There was nothing; perhaps it was just a long pause beneath breaths, and so he waited, begging eyes trained on his enemy's face, for an inhale that he dreaded would never come.
Then Hakoda stirred, coughing up water, and Stormreign felt a surge of relief. He wasn't much for religion, the only gods he knew were cats that had elevated themselves to glorious heights, and saw their platform crumble beneath their feet; even the god of the sun had proved himself mortal when his disciple carved out his heart. And yet, as the warrior stirred beneath his paws, Stormreign found himself murmuring a fervent prayer of gratitude to any being that might be listening.
Win?
The blue tom stared down at Hakoda in disbelief. "He's breathing," he told Aspenstar from the corner of his mouth, "but I think he might have gone daft. Of course you didn't win," he added, louder. "It wasn't a drowning competition, was it? You ran up the wrong hill, you grand idiot."

Still not quite aware of his surroundings and rather groggy, Hakoda was unaware of all the eyes that were now on the two of them. That was until Stormreign spoke, and not to him. His blue eyes darted around the cave, seeing the reflection of many pairs of eyes looking back at him. The warm breath of another cat tickling his long fur.. He pushed his tired limbs off the ground and away from the NightClan leader with a huff. He pulled back to sit beside of Stormreign, wrapping his tail around his paws. The playful expression had completely fallen from his face replace with something far more serious. He would have looked quite intimidating, except his impressive coat was plastered to his muscular body with paints dripping down and mixing together to form a rainbow puddle at his paws.
He didn't speak or offer any sort of explanation for why he just fallen from the sky into the middle of SunClan's camp, allowing Stormreign to speak for him. The wrong hill... Well there wasn't really any way for him to hide now, nor get away. So he simply waited, his breaths still ragged and wheezing. Would she throw him out? Imprison him? He spared an apologetic glance at Stormreign, he hadn't meant to cause the tom any trouble.
