Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Death had overrun the clan. From the deputy and medicine cats deaths, to the countless who died in the battle with Brookclan. After the battle, Kerrigan had appointed Solsticesong to become leader after Moosestar ran away. What a horrible choice that had turned out to be. As she called the clan to a meeting, she searched the crowd for random cats to appoint as staff. She really should have thought this over.
“Let all cats gather for the meeting!” Wait. That was wrong. What would the clan think now? Maybe it would be a good thing, as she could just choose a kit to be the medicine apprentice. She shook the thoughts from her head and watched the cats gather. Up until now, she hasn’t realized just how big of a toll the battle had taken on Earthclans numbers. They needed allies, and fast. The first thought that came to mind was SunClan. While Foxstar had been sparatic as of late, she knew Dragonswrath. The soothsayer had helped her through her first gathering, and with her being a descendant of Lilystar of SunClan, perhaps they would help her.
Ribbondance and Coralpaw's ears perked up at the sound of the leader's voice. "Does that include me?" the cream-coloured apprentice stammered, though it seemed to be more out of excitement than nerves.
Ribbondance could only roll her eyes in response. "She said all cats, mousebrain," she purred affectionately, leading the apprentice near the front of the crowd and gesturing for her to sit down. "What, don't feel like a real member?"
Breezestep tilted her head as she heard the call. Rising gracefully to her paws, the queen led the way over, with her eager young son in tow. He liked the leader far too much for his own good, and she had to restrain him with a paw to keep him from running over and getting underpaw.
"H-Hey! Pondkit! Wait up!" Firekit scrambled out of the nursery after his mother and brother, the young tom nearly tripping over his own paws in his eagerness to catch up to them. When he finally reached them, the ginger kit playfully tackled his brother, latching onto him and sending them both tumbling across the ground. "You promised to wait for me," he squeaked in-between his laughter. "Re-mem-ber?
"That's enough roughhousing, you two." Creekghost lightly chided his sons with a purr of amusement as he padded over to his family, with his good friends Rookback and Stalkerjaw following behind him. The father's green eyes shone brightly with pride as he watched his kits; they were about four moons old now, so there were only two moons left of waiting before they were made apprentices. He was sure that they all would eventually make strong and loyal warriors, and become true assets to Earthclan.

Cutthroat heard the summons and padded over to where Stonefang sat with Honeycomb. He wondered what the leader had to tell them. It must be important to have called a meeting.
The leader stared over the crowd. She was almost tempted to pick Pondkit, the kit she had grown so close to, to be the medicine cat. Instead, her eyes landed on his brother, Firekit. A few moments passed before her eyes landed one Quietnight, and with that, she had made her decision. She tried to remember the words to the ceremony.
“As you know, we are without both a medicine cat and a medicine cat apprentice. I ask for Starclan to see and approve of my choice now. From this day forward, Firekit will be the new medicine cat, with Quietnight as his apprentice.”
Ribbondance shifted to turn towards the two cats whose names had been called, slightly surprised that it had been them Solsticestar had picked. She wondered if they'd had any idea they were going to be chosen, or if the leader had only just picked them now.
Coralpaw gave a quiet whoop! of celebration for the two cats before Ribbondance laid her tail across the young apprentice's shoulders, giving her a patented Stern Look.
Aside from Coralpaw's congratulatory 'whoop', the entire clan was almost completely silent, aside from a few confused murmurs that rose from among several small groups of warriors.
Stalkerjaw's mouth fell open slightly in surprise, and he glanced over across the camp in an attempt to catch the gaze of his friend Honeycomb, wondering what she thought about their leader's odd decision. It was...unusual, to say the least. He wasn't sure what to think.
Rookback's eyes went wide and he stared blankly at Solsticestar. Did he...did he hear her right? "I-I'm sorry," he voice rose over the confusion. "Did you just say that Firekit would be the new Medicine Cat and Quietnight would be his apprentice? Are you sure you didn't get it the wrong way around?"
Creekghost's mind felt like it had just shut down. What in Starclan's name was this talk about his son getting a full warrior position? He had been out hunting with Solsticestar just the other day, and she hadn't told him about any of this. Shouldn't the parents be told if their leader recieved a sign about their kit? "What are you talking about?!" He snapped up at the leader. "Firekit is only four moons old! He's too young to take up such a demanding position!"
What? Wha-what was going on? Firekit hid partially behind Pondkit as he suddenly realized the eyes of the entire clan were on him. What were they saying about him being a Medicine Cat? He didn't want to be a stinky Medicine Cat! He wanted to be a warrior, like his father! This couldn't be fair!
The leader stayed silent in her decision. In all honesty, she had no idea how to handle the clans concerns. “Please trust me in this. I had a dream from Starclan last night. This is the best decision. “ in all honesty, it was a complete lie, but she didn’t let it show. She gave no tells that it was a lie, keeping surprisingly composed.

The honey colored warrior was as shocked as any who had heard the announcement. She looked at Firekit to see his reaction but from what she could tell the kit wasn't too pleased. Then scanning the crowd she spotted Stalkerjaw looking over at her. The look on his face mirrored what she herself felt. She tipped her head slightly and shrugged her shoulders in reply to his unasked question.
"N-NO!" Firekit's protests rose above the chammering of the crowd, and before anyone in his family could do anything, the ginger tom had bolted to the front of the High Rock, glaring up defiantly at Solsticestar. "No! I won't do it! I don't want to be a Medicine Cat! I don't wanna! I don't wanna!" Tears flooded down the poor kit's green eyes, but he refused to budge, baring his teeth at the she-cat above him without fear.
Finally, Creekghost pushed through the wall of cats, bending over and grabbing his son by the scruff, pulling him away. "Firekit, that's enough," he scolded in a defeated tone. Honestly, he didn't like this any more than his kit did; the idea of making Firekit an apprentice so soon didn't sit right with him. But Solsticestar seemed sincere and almost apologetic, like her paws had been tried due to Starclan's interference. He set his kit down inbetween his front paws, before looking up at Earthclan's leader in reluctant acceptance. "If...if it is Starclan's will...then it must be so."
Firekit's eyes widened, looking completely betrayed. Creekghost was just going to allow this? Of all cats, he thought his father understood his dreams! Now he was just going to stand by and allow this, because Starclan said so?! He didn't want this! He didn't want to be a Medicine Cat! "N-no! No..." Firekit sniffed, all the fight having left him without his father standing up for him.
Quietnight had escaped most notice with the announcement due to Firekit's rather vocal reaction, well she supposed he was Firepaw now. Her green eyes watched Solsticestar with an eerie sort of glow, her posture oddly still. Like Firekit she wondered about this decision, she had only been a warrior within Earthclan for a couple moons. Not to mention her other... condition, that made her seemingly a rather poor choice for the new Medicine cat apprentice.
Suddenly her thoughts turned morbid and she couldn't help but chuff in amusement. If Firekit was medicine cat and her the apprentice that meant she would like pass on before him. Meaning the apprentice would die before the mentor. Unless he stepped down, and suddenly her brief amusement was stricken down. The brutal realization that she wasn't nearly skilled enough to be medicine cat apprentice hitting her. And Firekit was just a baby still. Who would teach them?
“Firekit. Will you accept it if I allow you to learn to hunt and fight at the same time?” She tilted her head. She felt bad, but going back now would make her seem like she lied. This was the best option.
The queen's ears pinned back, and finally she was in motion as well. She swept forward to stand beside her son and mate, look resolutely up at the leader. "No! If he is to be a medicine cat, if that is StarClan's will, let him do it fully. Don't tempt him away from his duties by living a half-life as a warrior." For all the confidence in Breezestep's words, her voice was trembling. I'm sorry, little kit, but I need you to this. This is the only way to keep one of you safe. It was the life of a warrior to fight and to die, but if her son would be a healer, then perhaps StarClan's sign was meant to save his life. She would not let her kit go.
Pondkit's eyes widened in betrayal. "I thought you liked me!" he whined at Solsticestar. Why was his brother so special?! His ears pinned back and the sulky tom backed away from his siblings, fleeing toward the nursery.
The leader’s eyes softened at Pondkit. “Of course I do, little one, but I had to follow what Starclan told me.” She placed her eyes on Breezestep and stared for a moment. “If he isn’t enjoying himself in some aspect of his life, he will get nowhere. Even if Starclan wills it, Firekit needs some amount of enjoyment “
Firekit had gone silent in his father's shadow, other than a few odd sniffs indicating that the kit was still crying. It was obvious that he no longer had any say in what was going to happen to him; Creekghost and Breezestep, his parents, were too busy negotiating the terms of his early apprenticeship with Solsticestar to pay any attention to what he wanted. It's not fair... he thought bitterly to himself, wiping away his fallen fears with a ginger paw, though too his dismay, more tears were already beginning to well up in his eyes. Out of the corner of his gaze, he spotted the she-cat Quietnight watching him. She had been chosen to work with him, right? But she didn't look much happier about the arrangement than he did...
Creekghost glanced over at his mate as she spoke, brushing his pelt against hers in an attempt to calm her. He understood where both Breezestep and Solsticestar were coming from; he of all cats didn't want to see his son get hurt or possibly killed on the battlefield, especially considering how tense clan relations had been lately. But at the same time, it was obvious Firekit was going to put up some resistance to his destiny unless he got what he wanted. "A compromise then," he finally answered. "We will only teach him to fight. To protect himself, the sick, and the herb storage. Would that be agreeable to everyone?"
In all of this, neither father mother, or brother noticed Pondkit running back to the nursery in tears.
Her tail lashed low and fierce, but slowly the she-cat acquiesced, stiffly bowing her leader to her head. "If you command it, it will be done." Her mate's compromise did little to settle her, given the fighting had been her exact concern, but she could not argue with her leader. If there was one thing the spirited young feline had learned, it was how to hold her tongue, and however reluctantly she did just that. She did not want her son to be miserable, just as she did not want him to fight, but if it was StarClan's will it be this way she could not fight it.
Brackenhawk had been quiet for the entire argument until the protests died down. He then made his way over to Firekit, hoping to calm the crying kit. "Hey, Firekit." His voice was gentle and calm. He crouched down to eye level with the newly appointed medicine cat. "I think the medicine cat is the most important role in the clan. Without the medicine cat, there wouldn't be much of a clan, would there? Someone has to heal them and I think you will do a wonderful job at it. I believe you are going to be the best medicine cat who had ever lived. It is such an honor to be ahead of any of your siblings and denmates. How cool is that? You get to be in on all of the important things. Including speaking to Starclan. I wish I could be like that." He really hoped he would get through to the kit. Being a medicine cat was awesome and he really wanted the kit to see that.
