Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
welcome to spooky month in brookclan week one. this is actually a day early since it is not technically spooky month but its fine shhh
each week, there will be a new spooky themed thread. these wont get locked, but they "end" when the next event happens. these events don't occur outside of the spooky month threads. each week will have a different theme. feel free to be as creative as you want with these threads as long as what you have to say is within the realm of possibilities. ie: you can be as conspiracy theory as possible, but the cats won't know about the illuminati. on halloween itself, there will be a brookclan festival dedicated to tiveronah. feel free to jump into the thread in any way
week one prompt :
it has been dark for days when a group of felines go out for a patrol. they don't expect to find anything, but soon find themselves face to face with a mystery: there are strange lights in the sky, ones that have never been seen before. they blink and move and aren't just white. these lights are red and green, and they seem to move in patterned motions. soon, every cat in brookclan can see the strange lights.they aren't stars, so what are they? the mystery thickens on the third night when a brookclan cat comes howling into the main gathering spot in the middle of the night, screaming about how he saw one of the lights fall to the earth. when cats follow him, they find a strange object on the earth that they can't quite explain. what are the lights? what is the object? stay tuned to find out.
NIGHT ONE : THE FIRST APPEARANCE. The night sky was dark, darker than it normally was. It seemed as if the stars had been blown out like candles, and it had been three days since there was any sign of the moon. A thick fog had settled over BrookClan territory, leaving an ominous feeling in the air. Most of the cats could brush it off. After all, BrookClan had experienced some harsh weather lately. But others were becoming uncomfortable with the sudden, full darkness.
Abram was one of these felines that was less enthused with the darkness. It made him uncomfortable at best, and at worst, the idea of full darkness after the sun set made his skin crawl. Yet, he was assigned a duty to night patrol, and he wasn't about to tell the Tsar no, especially not for such a foolish reason. The tom shook himself, before glancing at the cats around him.
"Is everyone ready?" he asked, trying to put on his best face despite the fact that he was still visably uneasy with the idea of going out into the dark fog. "If we are, we best get going."
Sagecloud nodded, biting his lip. "Yeet," he said. "I mean, affirmative." He wasn't a big fan of this time of the year - not that he actually believed in the supernatural, of course, but was it really a coincidence that so many of the elders' ghost stories happened around this time of year...?
He raised a brow at the tom's first words. He had heard rumors around the clan that Sagecloud was a unique fellow, but that was more than just unique. That was flat out strange. He shook off the thought though and nodded to the group.
"Alright, then let's go. I want to get this done and over with as soon as possible. Stay close to one another. Visability is going to be low, so if there comes a point where you are separated from the group, speak loudly and quickly. We don't want to lose anyone." Kerrigan had made an announcement as soon as the fog rolled in that no cat was to go out unless ordered, which was why Abram was being so militaristic in his commands. Whatever was out there, hopefully nothing, would have the upper hand. The cats needed to be careful.
"We will steer clear of any and all water. We will make a a run towards the Regime's border up the west side of the territory and return. Any questions?"
Sagecloud scratched his nose with a paw. "Um, affirmative, I have one." There was an awkward pause as the group waited for him to speak - he seemed to have been waiting for someone to specifically ask him. "You said to, uh, if we get lost, that we should speak loudly and quickly. But uh, I just...How quickly do you want us to speak? If I speak too fast...nobody will be able to understand me, man."
A very audible, sharp sigh rose from a bit farther in the back of the group, from the small figure of a white viony whose form was barely visible underneath the thick layers of fog. She narrowed two eyes became pair lines of green slits, and though she made an effort to know her place and hold her tongue, the stupidity of the comment eventually wore on her restraint. "There's a very simple solution to your problem - be slow enough to be understandable and quick enough that if you're about to fall into water someone can help you. It's sort of a manner of common sense." Every words was said through slightly clenched teeth, and annoyance and wearyness from the draining idiocy of the question fought for the dominant tone of her voice.
Unlike Abram and Sagecloud, Lillyripple's only concern over the night was the annoyance over the fog, and her only unease was over the danger of it. She considered herself a rational lady, nowvunblemished by the childish fears of youth. She was not endlessly brave but practical, skeptical, and the old kit-tales of late October nights had long left her mind. The thickness of the dark, near solid as if it owned its own form, was merely a danger to be worked around with precaution, and the small chill of the breeze that crept up and raced down her spine, was a mere nuisance at worst, and at best, promised to hopefully whisk away the fog in some time.
"Thank you," Abram meowed to the she-cat on the patrol. "I appreciate that I didn't have to be the one that said that." He narrowed his eyes slightly at Sagecloud. There was a reason that cats called him a lot of things, wasn't there? He suppsoed that this really didn't effect him, and with that decision, he turned to start.
"I think we are ready to depart," he meowed, shifting his weight slightly. He wasn't excited about this. Not at all. Yet, it was his duty, which meant that the three of them were going to have to brace the wild, whether or not it was the preferred solution. "Here we go."
With that, the felines entered the thick fog that seemed to dance with life around them.
