Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. He poked his head out of the den, glanced from side to side, then waddled a few steps outside. Then he promptly sat down and watched and waited, with naive green eyes wide and round. The little kit was already starting to look a little plump, though no cat would dare challenge Breezestep on her feeding practices and invoke a queen's rage. Once he was apprentice, the small cat's roundness would probably resolve itself. Pondkit had positioned himself in the center of camp, certainly right in the way, but the tiny orange-and-white tabby showed no sign he was planning to move. Really, he just looked astonished by everything and everyone surrounding him.
"Why, hello," a gentle voice purred. Mudflower decided to plop down next to the small kit. The chocolate-colored she-cat had an affinity for the young, although she had none of her own. Her green eyes decided to scan the camp in an attempt to find what Pondkit was so astounded by.
He tilted his head back to look at her, a wide, goofy grin overcoming his features. "Why, hello!" Pondkit chirped back, his little tail swishing back and forth. His eyes sparkled with excitement and pride in himself at his little repeating game, and he giggled to himself.
Mudflower let out a small purr of satisfaction. It was always a joy to converse with one of the Clan's young. "Do you like flowers, Pondkit?" she inquired, followed by a small lick to rid a small ball of fuzz on the kit's head.
His head nodded vigorously, his whole body bouncing up and down a little with the effort. "Pondkit like flowers! Taste funny," he giggled. As his little teeth grew sharper he had begun to eat grass and flowers and whatever else came within biting distance. It didn't taste good, but different, and that was fascinating to the curious little cat.
"Morning good!" Pondkit agreed. The little tom waddled over to meet her. Partway over he spotted a butterfly over her shoulder; giggling in delight, he shot after it.
He stumbled over to the butterfly, then raised one paw and swung his whole body behind it as he reached for the insect. It took to the air and escaped him with ease. He crouched down and tried to jump up and catch it, but it was long gone.
He sank back into a sitting position and his eyes filled with tears. Pondkit started to sniff.
He looked over at her with wide watery eyes filled with a great and utter sadness.... until they fell upon the feather. Then they stretched impossibly wider still, shocked and curious, and he forgot he was sad. Getting up, he slowly waddled over to meet her, never taking his eyes off the prize.
