Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Hiddencharm waited at the camp's entrance for his new apprentice to join him. He had given her time to congragulate her sister, and receive praise from her mother before they were to start their training.
He had never been a fan of crowds, so he had slipped away as soon as he was no longer needed for the ceremony. It was an honor to receive an apprentice. It meant that Foxstar trusted him to impart his knowledge to the next generation.
He had never had an apprentice before, but he would do his best to teach Snowpaw all that he knew. When he found out that she would be his apprentice he did some research into her history. She had not been born into SunClan, but brought to the clan by her initiate mother who wished for them to be raised under the guidance of the Sun God.
Snowpaw had been thrilled to learn that she and her sister would finally be promoted to apprentices. She had waited six long moons to become an apprentice, her mother forbidding her and her sister to even think about training before then. Even now, she was ducking away from her overbearing mother who was still telling both her and Frostpaw just how proud she was of them. Her eyes searched the crowd until she found Hiddencharm by the camp entrance. The white apprentice hurried over to him, her blue eyes shining with excitement. "Are we going to begin training now? What will we do first?"
"Yes we will begin our training today" Hiddencharm purred with a light flick of his tail onto her shoulder "However, first we will be taking a tour of SunClan's territory. I wouldn't want you get lost if we ever got seperated during our training sessions"
The tom moved forward, motioning for her to follow. "So what are you most excited to learn about?" he questioned
"I can't wait to see what our territory looks like. I've been looking forward to being able to leave the camp for moons!" Most apprentices loved the idea of learning to fight and while that did appeal to the young she cat, she really wanted to have a good look around as well. She'd been good as a kit and never tried to leave the camp. She'd listened very closely to the queens hoping that it might help her get promoted a bit earlier. She'd ended up having to wait in the end, but it hardly seemed to matter now that she was finally an apprentice.
He couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm, as it was rather contagious. He sometimes wondered if this is what his kits would have been like had he not broke it off with...her. Just the memory of the she-cat pained him, but it was for the best. The two of them were not meant to be, no matter how much he longed for her touch.
"Then you are in for a treat. My job as your mentor is to ensure that you know and understand the SunClan code. Part of our code is that all SunClan territory is sacred. All outsiders who do not seek to join us, must be chased away or killed. Before you can understand, you must learn every crook and crany of our territory"
"So if outsiders won't join us we have to chase them away right? That is why we have to learn to fight." While she had been born outside of SunClan, Snowpaw had been raised in the clan from the time she was a very small kit and because of this, she shared the same pride that most of her clanmates had as well as a natural dislike for those that were not a part of SunClan. "Are we going to look at the territory now? I'll try my best to memorize it all if we are!" She couldn't decide if she wanted to be excited or take the time to ask questions and learn everything that she possibly could. She just wanted to be the best SunClan warrior she could be.
"Yes, we can not allow outsiders onto our lands. They are sacred, for this is where the Sun God dwells. The are unworthy of basking in his glory" he replied with a little smile.
"Yes we will take a tour of our territory today" he let his tail touch her shoulder lightly as they walked out of camp.
"We will start in the sunflower fields. What do you know about them?"
"Mama had to go there to get a flower when Foxstar accepted her into the clan." Snowpaw honestly didn't know much about the sunflower fields, but she was eager to learn. "It's a special place right?"
"It is a very special place. The sunflower fields is where we bury our dead, after they have passed. Each time a member of SunClan has passed on, we plant a sunflower in their memory" he paused as they reached the begining of the sun flower fields. "Their bodies return to the earth, and provide nourishment for the flowers. The flowers provide a prime location for the clan to hunt, therefor they can help SunClan long after they have gone"
"The sunflowers also serve a purpose in our initation, just like the one that your mother had to go through. Each cat that wishes to join us must select a flower that speaks to them, a flower that represents their soul. During the ceremony, the Sun God looks into their souls to see what truely lies their. If they are deemed trustworthy and loyal, their sunflower catches fire. A sign to the clan that they are worthy of joining out ranks"
Snowpaw listened with wide eyes. "So the Sunflower fields is one of the most special places in SunClan!" She definitely wouldn't be forgetting that any time soon. She did remember the bit about the sunflower catching fire. That had happened with her mother's sunflower and then she had been given a warrior name and welcomed into SunClan. Now she was a warrior with an apprentice of her own. "Are we going to the Sunflower Fields now?"
"Yes, and I thought that we could get a good idea of your hunting skills while we are here" he replied as the sunflowers came into view. They were beautiful, with the yellows and oranges standing out in stark contrast to the blue sky.
"There are a lot of mice and shrews that like to make there home here. Lets see if you are able to catch one. For now, I just want to see what you can do on your own. It will give me a good idea of what I am starting with"
The small white apprentice felt a twinge of excitement. She would get to hunt? This was the first time she had ever been offered the chance to hunt and catch something for the clan. Even if she wouldn't get to eat it herself, the thought of catching her own prey was exciting. Maybe if she caught something big she would impress Hiddencharm. "I practiced the hunting crouch all the time as a kit! Frostpaw and I would watch the apprentice and do our best to imitate them!" Of course if their objective was hunting, the young she cat was being a bit too loud, but she was really just overexcited.
"I'm sure you will do well" he praised, amused at her excitment. This was more than a simple hunting exercise though. Allowing her to just do her best, would show him how much knowledge she had been able to gain, her skills at stalking, agility, and much more. He didn't want to waste time teaching her things that she already knew.
"First you have to fin your target" he encouraged gently. She had probably scared off everything in the immediate area, but this would also giver her a chance to show how good at tracking she was.
"Oh right!" Snowpaw tilted her head up in the air. At first it was a bit difficult to discern all of the scents in the area, she was eventually able to pick out the scent of a mouse from all of the others. After another moment, she turned, following the scent west. It wasn't too far away, but she couldn't see it at the moment either. She moved forward, this time trying her best to be cautious. She would look silly if she scared away the mouse before she had even found it. If she caught this, perhaps Hiddencharm would be impressed. She had to try at least.
Hiddencharm waited, and he watched. This was her hunt, her chance to prove herself. He kept his face blank, offering little feedback. He just wanted to see what she could do on her own.
