"Hey, do you want to go hunting today?" Yellowdelight asked her brother hopefully. It had been so long since they went hunting together and she really needed to get out and hunt with someone for once.
"Uh, I have hunting plans today. Sorry. Maybe later." He said dismissively, the blue tom rubbing his cheek against hers before quickly disappearing out of the camp. Her tail fell to the ground and she watched his tail disappear outside of the camp walls. She noticed he had been hanging around Flawedperspective, Foxstar's daughter, a lot these days. They went hunting together, sat together during clan announcements, and before she realized it they would probably have nests besides each other too.
She was happy for him, truly, but they had been inseparable since birth so the she-cat couldn't help but feel a pang of loneliness through her. Not only had be been her brother but her best friend and now... it felt like she was all alone in this world even if she knew he still loved her and they would never truly lose that bond.
He'd been making a conscious effort to meet his clanmates recently, and get to know them. Though he was born and raised in the clan, he had known few cats well; he knew their names and appearances in passing, but beyond that he was a strictly uninterested neutral party. He wasn't the type of cat to get involved in anything, but he wasn't a good mediator either: instead of settling disputes, he tended to inflame them, annoyed by the petty squabbles. He had no desire to get to know most cats within their clan for a long time, but finally he had started to approach others, and it had made a difference. The cats of SunClan had more depth than he'd given them credit for, and he enjoyed getting to know most of them.
As he heard the passing exchange between the two, the auburn tom pricked his ears. It was an opportunity too good to pass up, seeing her droop in defeat when she was left alone. He crossed the cliffs to approach Yellowdelight and dipped his head to her in greeting. "I hear you need a hunting partner," Timesquandor offered, with a polite smile. "Mind if I tag along with you?"

Her tail lifted slightly and a cheerful look passed over her face in a heartbeat. "I would love it." She grinned happily at him, already starting towards the camp entrance. "Let's get going, I'm not getting any younger over here." She teased, cheerful and fast paced as usual. Despite this, she couldn't help but feel a small melancholy piece still left buried within her. She didn't know Timesquandor very well outside of the fact that he mostly kept to himself, but she would never pass up the company of a clanmate. She was quite the social butterfly herself and loved getting to know those she surrounded herself with and would put her life down for.
"Is that a bad thing?" His whiskers twitching, the auburn tom trotted lightly after her. He normally took life at a slower pace, but he had been looking for change, and maybe a cat that was so different from him was a good thing. She was energetic and social, and maybe she'd have something new to show him. As much as he'd always felt it was safer to keep to himself, it had been a passionless existence, and he needed something new and exciting to guide him. Maybe going out with her would actually be fun. He picked up his pace to draw alongside of her, lifting his gaze to casually scan their surroundings. "Nice day out today."

"You're right, it is nice." She agreed with a purr, bounding forward almost as if she were an apprentice, full of energy and excitement although she was long past her apprenticeship and a moderately experienced warrior. "So, what's your favorite prey? I'm a fan of most birds." She glanced back at him as they made their way out in the territory. She was planning to walk a ways before stopping to hunt so didn't bother with keeping silent for the time being. Not that she would have been very successful, anyways.
"I don't really have a favorite." He spoke after a moment had passed, his voice perplexed. He had never really considered it before, but now he found it a bit strange. Everyone had to have a favorite, one they picked first off the fresh-kill pile, he understood that; but what was his? He usually took whatever was left that looked warm, or if there was a particular flavor he was craving that day. He couldn't really commit to one favorite, though he felt foolish saying it out loud. As far as sticking out went, this was a pitiful start to begin with.

She considered that for a moment before answering, a realization washing over her. "That's wonderful actually. Then you can enjoy all prey equally. Do you have anything you particularly dislike?" She asked him curiously. Yellowdelight was quick to pick favorites and sometimes just as quick to change them. She saw different kinds of joy and beauty in different things and was easily overcome by her joy. The white she-cat wasn't sure why she had such a short attention span or optimism, she had simply been born to enjoy as much of life as possible. It was always funny to show that side of her to her brother, the cynical cat he was.
He tilted his head to the side, considering that question. Did he have a least favorite? Yes, perhaps he did - though his aversion wasn't as strong as he might have liked. Not enough to make him feel really unique, it wasn't something he could rant about, but it was a start. "I suppose I don't much like shrews, common as they are. There isn't much good meat on them, and they're usually so stringy and tough. It hardly feels like a decent meal," he concluded.

She nodded, Yellowdelight could certainly see his point. They were much lower on her list of prey to choose from for that reason. "Ew, yeah I've definitely had some bad shrews. Not really fit for consumption. I'll take a mouse over it any day." Although she did suppose that mice could get pretty stringy in leaf bare too sometimes. She both loved and hated how the seasons changed the prey even though that wasn't everything in life, just something she thought about sometimes. He seemed like a very reasonable and logical cat and wondered what untapped imagination he might have.
"Yes, indeed," Timesquandor agreed. He was silent for a few steps, then shook his head slightly. "I- I apologize. I'm being rather boring, aren't I?" The copper tom looked over at her with a guilty smile. "I suppose I get a little... stiff around cats I don't know well. A poor habit. What about you, is there some other prey you dislike more than shrews?" He fell into the trap of good manners and formalities when he was uncomfortable, because then it was harder to offend a cat; but he didn't want security right now, he was trying to get to know another cat. Still, it was a hard habit to break.

She shrugged. "It's fine. You remind me a bit of my brother, a bit stiff and quiet but you'll get over it with time." She smiled at him and turned around, pondering his question before answering. "Frogs. I love a good fish but frogs are so weirdly slimy and just have an awful texture to them. Fortunately, we don't catch a lot of frogs here in Sunclan but I have had one too many for my tastes." She shuddered at the memory. It was the only prey she truly didn't like. Yellowdelight absolutely loved fish but something about frogs just got her in all the wrong ways.
"Frogs are weird," he agreed, wrinkling his muzzle at the thought. "I've only had one, truth be told, and it might have been a toad. I don't really know the difference. But it left me with no desire to try another one outside of a desperate situation." Given SunClan's freedom to roam outside their borders, he had ventured over to the swampier lands on occasion to see what it was like, but after tasting a frog he hadn't been keen on sampling random prey anymore.

"Is there a difference between a frog and a toad?" She asked, her face creasing in the center as she thought hard about it. considering her knowledge and taste of frogs was so limited she couldn't say for certain but all that mattered was they were close enough for her to know she would equally dislike toads. "Have you tried hunting in what was Dayclan's territory? They really do having nothing during leaf-bare." She still wasn't really sure how she felt about taking over Dayclan and Springclan but if that was the Sun God's will then she would listen to Foxstar as long as they weren't killing anyone in cold blood.
"There must be. Why else would they have two different names?" he reasoned, but he couldn't name a single difference between the two slimy creatures. If they asked one of the other clans, they'd probably laugh at them for not knowing the difference... until they felt his claws, at least. He shook his head at her question. "I haven't. There must be something there, surely? How else would they survive every leafbare?" He wondered if it was their responsibility to look after DayClan now. If that meant sharing prey, and it was true their land was barren, this takeover might not go as well as they had planned.

"That's the thing-they barely survive. I've heard rumors they even eat crowfood to get through leaf-bare. I went hunting on Dayclan land in a patrol a few days after they were brought here and we came back with a mouthful. Not even enough to feed a little of kits. That's pretty awful if you consider they have to feed an entire clan on that." Maybe they wandered into the roguelands? Yellowdelight had bever quite been out that far, preferring the safer but limited confines of clan territory. "I think they were talking about solutions to survive when we showed up to Sunclan as well. I heard it from a few of the warriors who went along."
His muzzle wrinkled in utter disgust. "Crowfood? I always knew there was something rotten about those DayClan cats, but I thought it was just their souls." Timesquandor wondered if his mother had feasted on crowfood when she lived in the clan, or if prey had run stronger back then. It was hard to imagine Foxstar doing such a thing, but as far as he was concerned, she had never been that morally impressive anyway. He had an inkling more than the most of the clan about her history and activities, and she had always been the calculating vixen they knew now.

"It makes me glad I was brought here to Sunclan instead of Dayclan." She mewed. She couldn't remember if one of her many littermates had been taken to Dayclan or not, she had only met them once and not even all of them had been present to her knowledge. Yellowdelight wasn't sure but she didn't ponder on it too often.
"What do you think about the other clans being here?" She asked him curiously. Personally, she wasn't a fan of being surrounded by Dayclan and Springclan stench and on top of it they were an extra burden on the clan. The white warrior loved Sunclan with all her heart and they flourished even in leaf-bare but there were extra patrols and extra hunting for cats who did nothing but she could not blame them, they were held prisoner and were not permitted to partake in the freedoms and rights that Sunclan warriors had. Fewer than they expected were being initiated as well which Yellowdelight had assumed was the whole point of the affair.
Timesquandor grunted his displeasure. "A waste of prey. If DayClan was already starving, they're probably happy to be brought here. I don't see the point of taking them over anyway; their leader is already a SunClan cat, what did we accomplish by bringing them here?" He raised his muzzle and cast a glance around them, as if he expected one of the other clan to suddenly melt from the undergrowth and defend themselves. There was no answer, though, so he went on. "'As for SpringClan... well, I can't say I enjoy being crowded in from all sides but other clans. Defeated or not, if the two of them decided to work together and attack out camp, we might have a hard fight on our paws."

The white she-cat nodded thoughtfully at his words. It was the most she had heard him speak so far and probably the most honestly. She let a small smile spread across her face. "They are weakened, unless other clans get involved I don't think they will be going anywhere any time soon." Not that she particularly wanted him to say and the mixing of their scent with Sunclan was certainly a foul scent if she ever did find one. "I just wish Foxstar made more of them hunt, I'm tired of watching all the prey I bring back disappear to other clans. I'm not convinced more of them will be joining our ranks," She meowed truthfully. She wasn't being disloyal to Foxstar, Sunclan, or the Sun God but it was her honest opinion. "I don't believe we should force cats to join Sunclan. That won't bring us true loyalty." She chose her words carefully, unsure of where Timesquandor sat in terms of Sunclan politics although his words gave her an idea.
The copper tom considered that for a beat of silence after she spoke. His eyes were trained ahead and distant in thought. "I can't say forcing cats to join is the most efficient way to bring them to out side... but at least out initiation will get rid of most of the dishonest ones. I don't see why we don't only take the loyal ones, though. You can tell which ones are going to fail before they even start." The fiercely loyal cats would never be convinced to switch clans, so the ones that were forced to would just find their hearts burned out by the Sun God. That hardly seemed a fair fate.
